Catherine Bybee never fails to impress me with her excellent writing. This was a delicious Paranormal Romance novella. I fairly enjoyed it and went through the entire story in one sitting. In this book, we meet two interesting characters, Max Ritter and Janet O' Brien.

Max was a sexy werewolf who considered himself a vigilante of the full moon. He protected humans from the bad werewolves by hunting them during the full moon. One day after the fight, while he was shifting back into human form, he felt lightheaded and then blacked out. He woke up in a hospital, where he met Janet, a beautiful E.R. nurse, for the first time.

When Max found out that Janet was the next target of Gorman, a crazy werewolf, she suddenly became his responsibility. Both of them grew more and more attracted to each other. Their first kiss changed everything. All his instincts told him that she was his soul mate and he knew deep in his heart that he would protect her with his life.

This was his soul mate, and this was how making love was supposed to be. She felt it too, he could tell. Everywhere he touched, she responded. Every kiss was earth-shattering.

All in all, this was lovely, enjoyable, and quick read. I got what I expected from this novella—nothing more, nothing less.

3.5 This one is difficult for me to rate. I did enjoy it. I don't read novellas, but I can't really hold that against Bybee. Loved the way this book started. Bybee can pack a punch with less words than most writers. There were parts that made me laugh out loud. She is a very witty author. If you are looking for a quick read this book is for you. I don't think you will be disappointed. I just didn't want the book to end so fast!

I don't think this will be a spoiler since it was on the first few pages and it is a book about a werewolf. But what a great visual!

The nurse taking care of Max has been asked for a urine sample. Max is unconscious and Janet finds herself ogling his privates. She mumbles "This is going to hurt you more than me." She is holding him while she is lubing the catheter, when she hears a strong voice from the top of the bed say "Don't you think I should know your name first?"

I also loved the part where the whole pack is in the living room when the butler gives Janet a pile of blankets to pass out. When she asks why, he says, "the sun is coming up." The room full of wolves started changing into a room full of naked males and females.

So many werewolves are dark, tortured and brooding (yawn) but Max is a refreshing change from all that - an intelligent, well-centered man with a sense of humor, even capable of laughing at himself.

As she demonstrated previously with Soul Mate, Ms. Bybee has a knack for squeezing a lot of character development into a short space. By the end of the story, I wanted a Max of my own. Janet didn't disappoint either, a heroine who strikes the reader as someone we might have known or met, someone who feels real and believable.

The tension, both dramatic and sexual, keep the pace moving right along and sweep you to the conclusion. While I might have liked a bit more time with the were family, I have the feeling that we might just see some of these folks again...

I'm not going to say this book was terrible, because it wasn't, I just couldn't get into it. It's totally predictable. Big alpha werewolf falls in love with an unsuspecting human female then has to save the female's life from a rival alpha werewolf. There will be sex and near death experiences in which she finds out he's a werewolf, freaks out about it and then accepts him; they live happily ever after, the end. If it's different, then please let me know and I'll try to finish it. Otherwise, it's just like every other werewolf romance novel I've read.

I wish it was longer. But this short story about shifters was really rather good. The story flowed nicely and held my interest all the way through. There was instant attraction, lots of flirting and just enough action for such a short book. I hope that book 2 we get an update on this couple.

This review was first posted on Northern Plunder, if you want to see more reviews please click here.

I was browsing the amazon freebie selection which happens far too often and picked this up on a hunch, months pass and amazon freebies stack up high until I finally decided to tackle at least one of them.

(I should really count through my ebooks and figure out just how many I've gotten this way, its probably an insane proportion of them).

I'm really happy I chose to read this book because I'm always worried the reason behind them being free is because they're terrible, I mean sure some of them probably are but this isn't the case with this one.

At 86 pages this book can easily be read in one sitting, and like all my short story reviews I'll try not to give too much away.

As mentioned in the synopsis Janet is a nurse treating Max, who unknown to her is a werewolf. Max is good looking, charming and upon noticing his arch-rival has picked her out for his next victim, takes it upon himself to keep her close and safe.
Of course the two get along more than well and things heat up which you can expect from before the two talk, the book is cheeky from the get go which made its enjoyable, especially for the cuter movie watching scenes and the jokes about wolves going over Janet's head.

There's also a lot of tension and fighting towards the end of the book, when the werewolf packs confront each other, which adds a nice contrast and changes the pace of things.

Overall I really enjoyed this book, and its great reading something about werewolves again, I really don't allow myself to read a lot of supernatural based books lately which I should.

I enjoyed this book a lot more than I thought I would and it has piqued my interest in other books by this author. I can say that I would have liked it to have been a little longer because I was really into it just as started getting to the end. This was a fast paced story that managed to introduce the characters in a way that made them real and give you the entire run-down on what was going on in their world. While the romance was almost instantaneous, it gave meaning to the males need to protect. Not to mention the fact that shifters always seem to fall in love/lust immediately.

Max Ritter is found in the middle of Los Angeles naked and unconscious, he is taken to the hospital and meets Janet O'Brien, the nurse taking care of him. Also at the hospital is Gorman, the werewolf he has been following. When he sees that Gorman has set his sights on Janet what else can he do but try and protect her. Though they have an instant attraction Janet has no idea what Max is and he does not enlighten her even though he knows the danger that stalks her. The Ritter's are a family of werewolves who are sworn to protect people from being killed or turned but can they do it when it's most important to them and Max.

This was a really good story about the good and evil that can be found within the werewolf community with a villain who was evil and had plans for everything and everyone. Our good guy was rich, handsome, and almost to good to be true. Then there is the nurse, Janet, who has found herself between two adversaries without knowing the real cost to her.

Fast, sexy, brutal, and engrossing!

I needed a werewolf fix, so picked out this book and it did not disappoint.

In this world of werewolfs, there are good and evil. You can also turn people, but if you do they will be on the bad side.

Max Ritter our hero is a good guy, he is of werewolf blood and chose to become werewolf to protect others. One night while our fighting he is took to hospital naked (and of course his gorgeous) and gets treated by our heroine of the story Janet the nurse. What I really liked about Janet was she showed some common sense. They go on a date but then some threat to her appears and Max is having none of that, he doesn't go totally alpha but gets protective.

It's a really nice short read around 45 min to 1 hour maximum.

It's fixed my werewolf itch, but now I want to read Richards story!!

I read many short stories, and usually appreciate them, but this one didn't do it for me. I thought the story moved way too quickly. I mean, what kind of nurse would go home with a stranger she met in the emergency room after he was found in the street naked and unconscious? And without asking questions first? That would be Janet!
I was my first book from Catherine Bybee. Even if I didn't like this book, I'll probably try another of her books because she has a great sens of humor.

You Need to Read ~ By You Gotta Read Reviews.

When an injured, and naked man is brought into the emergency room where Janet works that last thing she is expecting is to end up going home with him and getting into the middle of some odd turf war.

Max has been hunting for Gormon for some time now. The rogue has been turning people and killing and has to be stopped. Max and his pack are hunting this monster and little does Max know that when he ends up in the hospital that he will meet his mate and find the resolution to the Gormon problem

Catherine Bybee has created a shadow world of rich characters and a vibrant storyline. The characters are endearing and will tug at your heart while you find yourself immersed in this fantastic story.

Nights and Weekends Reviews:

Max Ritter has woken up in some pretty strange places, but never in a hospital—naked. Three days out of the month, he hunts rogue werewolves who stalk new prey to add to their packs. The last encounter left him unconscious for more than a few minutes, which concerns him—but he has no time to worry about it right now. When he spots Gorman in the hospital, eyeing the pretty nurse who took care of him, Max knows that she’ll be his next victim, unless he can stop him—and he has no intention of letting Gorman have Janet.

As a nurse, Janet O’Brien is rarely flustered by a naked man, but Max is different. When he invites her out to breakfast after the graveyard shift, she surprises herself by saying yes. Plus, she’s curious as to why he was found on the street, naked and unconscious. He’s too clean and refined to be homeless, but he won’t give her any serious answers to her questions.

After one kiss, Max discovers that Janet is his soul mate. Now it’s imperative that he do everything he can to keep her out of the clutches of his rival, Gorman.

Satisfying and suspenseful, Before the Moon Rises has earned the distinction of being one of the top e-books I’ve come across in my journey to find the very best that the Internet has to offer. Author Catherine Bybee has pulled together a well-written and plausible paranormal read in fewer than 100 pages. I found it refreshing that I didn’t have to question the characters’ motives—or become irritated with them because they’re so unlikable.

With his sense of humor and protective nature, Max makes a gratifying hero. He’s never cocky or controlling (two traits I find highly unfavorable in a male character). Janet is smart and pretty—and, best of all, she doesn’t do those stupid things that make me want to scream and throw the book at the wall, like so many of the female leads in past stories I’ve read.

With just enough ambiguity woven into the beginning and throughout the story, Before the Moon Rises will hold your attention right up until the last page—and, before you know it, you’ll have read the whole book in one sitting. I urge you to pick this one up. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it as much as I did.

Before the Moon Rises is a hot little read that I found on Amazon for FREE. It’s the story of Max Ritter, an incredibly gorgeous, oh-so-anatomically-correct, smooth-talking man who just happens to be… a werewolf. After a full moon and a long night protecting the city from his arch nemesis and rival werewolf Gorman, Max is brought into the Emergency Room at County General unconscious…and completely naked. Having worked an exhausting graveyard shift, all RN Janet O’Brien wants to do is go home and crash. But with Max as her newest and last patient of the night, her plans are about to take a crazy turn.

An instant chemistry between the two, along with the fact that Janet has managed to catch the interest of a strange man in the ER (bad-guy/werewolf Gorman who has decided to make Janet his next target), has Max seething and assigning himself as Janet’s personal bodyguard, thus insinuating himself into every aspect of her life.

But Gorman will stop at nothing to have Janet, claim her in front of Max, and become the leader of the pack once and for all.

This short story was a fun, fast read. It was sexy and well-written. There were a couple of cheesy moments, but for the most part, the dialogue flowed nicely. I really enjoyed the characters and was impressed with the knowledge the author had of an ER and of nursing in general. Turns out the author was an RN, and she uses her hands-on knowledge and experience beautifully in this book. I loved her touching dedication to Emergency Room nurses.

I’m definitely adding the rest of the Ritter Werewolves series to my TBR. These are great books to read if, like me, you love a great werewolf story and, after reading too much YA, find yourself in need of a more mature, sexy read.

**This book is not YA. It contains adult themes, canoodling, and one hot, naked werewolf ;). So consider yourself tempted warned.

**Spoiler** This was a decent read. Max sounded sexy as hell, with his dimpled smile. I will let you figure out what it means that I cant recall the heroine's name LOL, but I liked her enough I guess, or maybe not. I liked the way she found out Max was a werewolf, that was probably the most memorable scene for me. She(whatever her damned name was) pissed me off after the fact, being mad at Max because he didnt inform her immediately that he was a werewolf, and how she just couldnt trust him. Look, I get it I guess, he lied by omission, but really, had he told her that the first time they hung out would she have believed him and not thought him crazy??!! I THINK NOT! There was a reason, he didnt tell her, and its not like he was keeping a secret family of wife and kids a secret. THAT you fuss at a man for, being a wolf and being afraid to tell you right of the bat can be forgiven! That's just me though I guess, LOL! Anyway, this was a free ebook, so if you want to read it for yourself because my review is seriously lacking at the moment, I don't think you'd be overly disappointed, it was free after all.

This was a good short story :)

So Janet is a nurse working the graveyard shift...and a HOT male gets wheeled in...passed out and completely naked.

Well she is a professional so she tries to nurse him back to health but she is human and she admires his body along the way :)

He wakes up and is smitten with his nurse but he also knows that she is in danger and needs to protect her...so he doesn't leave her side.

She finds out that he is a millionaire, funny, and let's not forget super sexy...but he has a secret: he turns into a wolf 3 times a month.

It is cute to watch them fall in love and him protector from an evil pack...

Had this book forever, and I never read it. Then I read “Not Quite Dating” by Ms. Bybee and I thought…wow, she’s really good, I should read this ASAP. And now I’m reading the sequel. And then I have a lot more Bybee books to buy (that is a triple B!). This is one of the best shifter books (or is it a werewolf book?) I’ve read in a long time. Ms. Bybee nailed the legend perfectly and put her own spin on it. Max, Janet and Richard were all a lot of fun. And the villain? Creepy, scary and deranged. I will say, though, I do know someone named Gorman, and I always thought he was the nicest guy…but now I will be extremely suspicious….

I picked up this book because I've enjoyed Catherine Bybee's contemporary romance novels (Married by Monday and Wife by Wednesday), and was plesantly surprised. I haven't read many paranormal romances, but I really enjoyed this one. It's short, novella length, but that doesn't mean that story is compromised. Catherine does an excellent job of still creating a believeable romance and a suspenseful plot in a limited amount of time. Lucky, otherwise I would have been up far later than I had planned last night.

I was feeling for a good werewolf book this book wasn't really it. The romance happened too fast for me. I barely knew the characters, I have read books were the characters jump into bed fast but after the author spends time on character development so i know them.
My second problem with this book is heroine get pissed cause she was lied to , we have little discussion about her feelings or why she is pissed and then she forgives the dude.
However the plot was ok
the only redeeming thing about this book was that i finished it. I expect better of you Catherine sorry.

I really liked this book but I felt it was too short. Because of the length, I felt the relationship between Max and Janet wasn't fully developed.....don't get me wrong there was a bit of chemistry there but it needed more. The sub characters also needed additional development in order to keep me interested in the series. The plot was really good and well thought out. I will read the second book because I did like it just not my favorite... it had the potential....

In all honesty, I liked this book. It moved quickly (as stories of this length often do) but I never thought it reached a point where I was rolling my eyes in disbelief. Maybe I just have a high threshold for that "mine" mentality with werewolves. I don't know. I liked it. It was fun and sexy and it made me grin.

3.5/5 (RabidReads.com)Two years ago I bought this novella and promptly forgot I had it until a couple of days ago. I jumped in not remembering even what it was about-although the cover was a pretty big clue. Wolf on the cover? I am so up for it!

Janet O’Brien is an emergency room nurse that works the night shift. When a gorgeous nude man shows up there unconscious, her long, hectic shift gets pretty interesting, to say the least. Max Ritter is a werewolf, and it’s the full moon. He spends the three days of the full moon each month searching for werewolves that hunt and change people against their will. It’s what his werewolf family does. He can’t remember exactly why he was unconscious, but when he realizes that the wolf he has been hunting is also at the ER and has set his sights on Janet, he asks her out to breakfast to keep her safe.

There’s not that many characters developed due to the shortness of the story. I found Janet to be a good character, but I think I enjoyed Max’s character the most. He’s the alpha male type, and extremely rich and handsome. He’s found his mate, and he’s determined to keep her safe from the bad guy, Gorman. Gorman is just evil, with no redeeming qualities. I also liked Max’s human brother, Richard. He was a fun character, amused watching while Max falls for Janet, especially when Max changes to a wolf, and Janet sees him for the first time-not knowing that it is Max.

This ended up being not only a sweet romance, but it also was a thriller of sorts. There is some scary moments, and of course some sexy moments, as well. Since it is a novella, the romance had to happen fast, but when a wolf finds his mate, I find that acceptable.

I enjoyed this read-but as usual with a novella, I did wish for more story, more romance, and more character development. But I do know that goes with the territory. I look forward to reading the next book, Embracing the Wolf, featuring Richard. I would recommend this to paranormal romance readers. Good fast read, for those that just want something quick to read.

"Before The Moon Rises" is the second book I've read of Catherine Bybee but the first paranormal romance I've read in her collections. I will admit it, paranormal romance and urban fantasies are definitely my reading preference; so, Before the Moon Rises was right up my alley.

When a naked man is admitted to the emergency room of County General, nurse, Janet O'Brien cannot help but name him Mr. Naked Man. He is a fine specimen of "Oh Baby" but Janet is more than a little embarrassed when he awakes while she is holding his member in an attempt to insert a cathater (I loved this scene). It seems Mr. Naked Man's real name is Max Ritter and he and his member would like to get to know Janet a little better.

Janet cannot believe she really agreed to give Max a ride home. However, once she sees his million dollar estate and his Ferrari she knows Max is more than meets the eye. Unfortunately, her breakfast with Max is spoiled when she arrived home to discover someone has thrashed her place and listened to her phone messages. Max knows immediately who the intruder is and what he wants. His nemesis, Gorman, wants to claim Janet for his own. Well, that is just not going to happen.

This was a very short and fast reading novella into the world of the Ritter werewolves. There was action, hot monkey love and great chemistry between the characters. I just wish the book had been longer, providing more background into both of the main character's world. However, I realize that this book was meant as a tease to get readers interested in the other books. Well, Ms. Bybee succeeded on that front because I will be going on to read book 2. I just hope it is longer.

Before the Moon Rises (Ritter Werewolves)

The start of this book is full of chaos as we enter the life of Janet. Janet is a night shift nurse who is handling things as normal until she gets a call from her radio saying they are bringing in a naked patient. Janet takes care of him as normal until the doctor needs a urine sample. Janet is about to get the sample when the patient awakes. Their conversation is fun and exciting as the patient, Max gets a ride back to his house so they can go out for some coffee. It's an instant page turner as we still need to figure out why he is naked. As the book continues we figure out that something is up with Max when he could smell her on the car... with the smell aside he was talking in secret to his brother on the phone. It appears to be a mystery story of sorts but you will have to see for yourself... I know I loved it. I could relate to Janet and her uneasiness towards the sexy charming Max.

Gosh, when the kissed for the first time it was like fireworks went off. For the reader as well! Unfortunately a passerby decided their fate at the time and yelled "get a room" causing them to stop kissing. It just gets more intense from there when they arrive at her house and its trashed, yet nothing is missing! There is someone or something after Janet and Max is going to do everything in his power to protect her. I love their relationship and how it grew so fast. The love scenes are HOT!

This review also appears on my blog Amy's Book World :

This is a short and entertaining story. We follow Max Fuller and Janet O'Brien. Max is a werewolf and Janet is just a human. They meet when Max is found naked, unconscious and brought into the hospital where Janet works. This meeting ends up changing their lives.
When Janet agrees to go to Max's house with him I was a little shocked. I'd have thought she would have made him work for it before she just throws it out there. It is a shorter book so I guess the author has to speed things up. The chemistry between the two is almost instantaneous so I can see why she was in a hurry to strip him down. When they get together their scenes are HOT.

There is a villain in this story. His name is Gorman. He is a werewolf but he is more of a feral one. The background story there is not fully clear. It was kind of dusted over and there was no real big explanation. Same goes for Max's background. It is not really talked about either. I was disappointed and wanted to learn more.

Overall thoughts on this book is that I think this is a great start to a series. I like the author's take on werewolves. She writes two versions of them a good werewolf that has more humanity and a bad werewolf that is more feral. I look forward to reading more from the Ritter clan. This is an adult read so it is recommended for ages 18+.

GREAT SHORT STORY

Max Ritter is a werewolf during the change he gets knocked unconscious. Naked he's brought into the emergency room where Janet O'Brien a nurse is going to care for him. While she is about to insert a catheter he wakes. Embarrassed at being caught with his private bits in her hand. She backs off. Max is attracted to this human woman and persuades her to go to breakfast with him.

Then another werewolf who means Janet harm trashes her house. Forced to stay with Max, they start to get closer . But Gorman a werewolf from another pack wants Janet for himself. So Max needs to protect her. But Janet has no idea what Max is. How will she react when she discovers the truth.

A really nice short read from this author. I haven't read anything by her before. She's certainly packed in a lot considering this is a novella. With a tall dark and sexy hero, and a feisty heroine who knows her own mind. No simpering virgin here. The love scenes are sensuous, and with interesting side characters. This is a recommended read. I will definitely be reading the next book in this series.

I really, really liked this one. It was such a great tease for the series. As a prequel novella it definitely did its job. I'm definitely going to check out the rest of the series. It pretty much had everything a good werewolf story should have. Lots of heat, a protective alpha who would die for their mate, a really bad - bad guy, a strong female character who is thrown into a nightmare/fairy tale situation and a strong pack/family to back them all up. Yep, it's all there and I can't wait to see what happens next.
I should also mention that Catherine Bybee's werewolves are just a little bit different than the average werewolf - and I liked that. Straying from the norm but still keeping things familiar is always a good thing. That may not make much sense, but trust me, when you read Before the Moon Rises you will totally understand.

I picked up Before the Moon Rises as a Free download from Amazon on December 26, 2012 and read it as part of my 'Why Buy the Cow' 2013 Reading Challenge.

Short, fast paced yet riveting story.

Janet, an ER nurse begins taking care of a patient (brought in by ambulance) who is unconscious and naked. All the tests she has run come back negative for drugs, alcohol, concussion, broken bones, etc.

Max awakens just as this nurse is about to insert a catheter. He is drawn to her, even in this embarrassing scenario he is in a the moment.

He eventually convinces her to drive him home so he can change, get his wallet and take her to breakfast. Of course, it helps that he drives a Ferrari and that she is avidly into fast cars.

They both are drawn to each other like magnets and the sexual sparks begin to burn. This is a dream come true for them...except that someone else wants Janet. Max will do anything to protect her.

This is a book about werewolves and is one in a series. This book had closure, but ended a little abruptly. All in all, a good read and I am looking forward to reading more.

When Max Ritter arrives in the ER naked and unresponsive, nurse Janet O'Brien is perplexed by what is causing his condition. After he wakes up and finds himself in a interesting situation with the nurse, he realizes that she is intended to be the next victim of Gorman, a wolf who is evil to the bone. Wanting to protect Janet, who is finding is hard to resist, Max draws her close only to realize she is his mate. Max has some explaining to do if he wants to keep her close by his side, but Janet has an independent streak a mile wide and Max will have to be extremely clever to keep her as his mate.

I thought this was highly entertaining. Has a few spots where I think it could have been more detailed but it was creative and funny which kept me intrigued. Plan to check out more of Catherine Bybee's Ritter Werewolves series.
