I was a lucky goodreads giveaway winner of this wonderful book on Hero dogs. By Donna M. Jackson. Most of this book focuses on what dogs did for humans during the 911 attack on the twin towers. After this horrible attack on our country dogs were brought in and did a lot of work and help during this time. They were involved in the search and rescue at the site of the buildings that fell. They offered moral support to the humans. and so much more. Many of these dogs suffered injuries and needed medical care but still made sacrifices non stop during this terrible time. The rest of the book writes about what else dogs have done for humans. They are support dogs to those who need comforting. Dogs who have been taught to help the blind, deaf, and those with physical and emotional issues. Some dogs like beagles are used to sniff out drugs, bombs and illegal foods at airports. This is a real nice homage to man's best friend. Those who love dogs as much as I do will enjoy this wonderful book about the heroics that dogs have done. I would like to say thank you to goodreads, The author Donna Jackson and the publishing company, Little Brown books for this copy of Hero Dogs Courageous Canines in Action.

This is one of my favorite books about dogs. I had to create a non-fiction unit about dogs, and this was my favorite book to showcase. This book encounters stories from different dogs affected by the terrorist attacks, and each one is sure to move the readers. I shed tears of joy and tears of sorrow, this book is truly a great addition to any classroom library!

I'm always a sucker for a dog story! This book is especially devoted to the search and rescue dogs of 9/11/01. It also features a few stories of other service and rescue dogs. Very touching.
