The Texas Congresswoman describes her childhood in Houston, her years in segregated schools, her entry into the white world while attending Boston University Law School, and her breakthrough into politics
American politician Barbara Charline Jordan, an eloquent spokesperson for the rights of the disadvantaged, served as a representative of United States from Texas from 1973 to 1979.
The oddest auto-bio I have read. Odd in format, in that there were clearly identified portions by BJ and clearly identified portions by her editor/co-author Shelby Hearon. I was amazed (and often amused!) at the honesty in recalling her life story. Great book, great stateswoman.
This volume celebrates the significant achievements of a bright woman. The voice in this book seemed different from the cultured intonations I recall hearing. I especially enjoyed the description of her relationship with her grandfather John Ed Patten. Written with Shelby Hearon. This is a second reading, the first was at the original publication in 1979.
