Aside from reading a few reviews, I went into this one blind and ended up falling in love with it--nearly reading it in one sitting. This book pretty much consumed my Sunday.

The book opens with Maggie, mother of two daughters (Katie and Rosie) who are now both in their twenties and living on their own. Maggie sort of has some empty nest syndrome because she's spent most of her life making a home for her family, including her husband Nick, but so much has changed. It's Christmas, Maggie's favorite time of year, and she can't wait to decorate their home in England (Honeysuckle Cottage) for their annual family celebration. She expects both girls to come home for Christmas. After a phone call brings the announcement of a Christmas wedding (in Aspen, Colorado), Maggie begins to think this might be the worst Christmas ever.

I was talking to my friend about this book and the first thing that came to mind is how easy it would be to do a complete character analysis on the main characters in this story, especially Maggie. Each one is so well-developed. No one character takes precedence over the other; their stories are all well-understood and it keeps the book interesting from beginning to end.

It was easy to resonate with Maggie most though, especially as a mom. She's feeling unsure of what her role is anymore, and somewhat irrelevant now that her children are grown and her relationship with Nick has changed. What is she going to do now? She's finally opening up to show her inner feelings which no one in the family has ever heard before now. Truly, all of these characters have secrets that they're keeping from one another. What's funny too is how the entire family seems to be dreading this wedding trip, when it might be exactly what each and every one of them need.

I love the way this story is written, alternating between Maggie, Katie, and Rosie. All the characters were likable. Katie was another favorite. It’s sweet the bond she has with Rosie and the way she’s so protective of her sister; that’s something you don’t always get with an older sibling.

It's hard not to love the way they've all been transported into the winter wonderland of Aspen, Colorado at Christmas. The only issue, which made the book feel a little unrealistic to me, was how everyone seemed to become perfect communicators by the end of the book. Otherwise, the story is plausible to me. The book isn't overly Christmassy either.

A Wedding in December seems to have everything I love in a good story: romance, charm, comedy, and even emotion. The family theme pulled me in from the first pages. I just loved this and highly recommend.

Cozy! Charming! Cheery!

Light the fireplace, grab your favorite plushy throw, and snuggle in for the perfect Christmas read to get you excited about this magical season of the year!!

Meet three women with three different and distinct romantic relationships ... one thriving, one ending, and one non-existent. But, as they find out, things can change in the blink of an eye! How these women deal with their feelings that come with those changes was delightfully engaging.

As expected when opening the pages of a Sarah Morgan book, I was drawn right in and kept entertained from beginning to end. She never fails to write endearing, relatable characters and absorbing storylines.

Just a heartwarming read and is as inviting as the beautiful cover!

This is Sarah Morgan's festive feel good romance featuring the White family with the upcoming unexpected wedding of Rosie, studying in Harvard, specialising in Celtic folklore and mythology. Mum, Maggie lives in her much loved home in Oxford, works in publishing, but has been living alone for the last six months, with Nick, an Egyptology professor, having moved out, in preparation for their divorce. Maggie has kept this secret from her daughters, Katie, a busy stressed out A & E doctor, and Rosie, and plans to continue doing so until after Rosie's wedding. Maggie is worried that impulsive Rosie is rushing into marriage, and Katie, who has suffered her own trauma which she has kept from the family, is sure that Rosie needs to be rescued from making a major error of judgement. Maggie hates flying, but she will do anything for her daughters, and travels with Nick, helped by the intake of copious amounts of alcohol.

In this story of the problems of communication, over protectiveness, and secrets in the White family, they arrive to spend Chrismas in the beautiful snowy location in the mountains of Colorado. Wedding preparations are well under way, competently and efficiently handled by wedding planner, the lovely Catherine, the mother of Dan, the groom to be. The location is majestic and magical, captivating the entire White family. Dan proves to be great guy and obviously in love with Rosie, but Katie is not convinced it will work out in the long term as she sets out to interrogate Dan. Dan's best friend and best man, Jordan, arborist and carpenter, is not impressed with Katie's effort to undermine the wedding. Rosie allows doubts to enter her mind, but is struggling to find ways to communicate this to Dan, feeling events are running away from her. Katie who has never had a close relationship begins to be drawn to Jordan, but surely there is no future in it? Will Maggie and Nick rediscover their love for each other? Will Rosie marry Dan?

The highlight for me is Morgan's detailed descriptions of the mountainous Colorado location, I think snowy mountains truly do have a magical feel, a reminder of Narnia, particularly with blizzards and snowstorms. The characterisation is not perfect, but still works in this escapist fantasy, and the family dramas do carry some level of real life authenticity. Communications in families can be problematic, marriages can come under strain as couples lose sight of each other through the years, and relationships often do need to be recalibrated if they fester from outdated childhood patterns like protectiveness. This book is for those wanting a warm hearted festive read with the perfect location to immerse themselves in. Many thanks to HQ for an ARC.

A Wedding in December is a book that was long overdue. I was supposed to read it for Christmas, but yet, here we are in February. Nevertheless, it was an amazing experience and I am so glad I finally read it.

Sarah Morgan has an extremely good talent in human relations and relationships. She puts these relationships on paper so easily… Do you know that feeling where you can sense people’s mood by just walking into a room? She managed to capture this moment in most of her scenes - and it was a true joy to read that.

The Synopsis

Maggie has two daughters: Katie and Rosie. While Katie has always planned everything in her life and never failed (becoming doctor is her biggest achievement), Rosie is the complete opposite. She changes her mind all the time and never knows what she truly wants.

And one evening, Rosie calls her mum to tell her she is getting married. All of a sudden. Not in her hometown in the UK, but in some snowy mountains in the USA. For Christmas. THIS Christmas. In just a few months.

Everything is happening so fast, and Maggie is afraid for her daughter. But most importantly, Maggie is afraid that she will finally reveal to her girls that she is getting divorced from their dad.

My Thoughts

In a lovely snowy atmosphere, we get to see this family, and their different personalities coming together, in a book where love wins in the end. Reading this book under a warm blanket and with a hot chocolate definitely gave me the true feelings of Christmas again.

I encountered some interesting scenes, a couple of plot twists, a bit of a mystery behind one of the sisters. The importance of mental health as well, and how important is to share our troubles with someone. Anyone.

Some of the relationships, new or current, happened at a very fast pace, which wasn't too my great pleasure. There was some sense of unnecessary urgency which didn't feel believable nor relatable to me. But in hindsight, a wonderful book to spend your evenings with.

If you love romance novels and you also love Christmas, A Wedding in December will probably end up being your favourite book. I highly recommend it!

This is the story of the White family - Mum Maggie, Dad Nick and elder daughter Kate who is ten years older than Rosie. Rosie meets Dan in New York and after a whirl wind romance he proposes on a visit to his mum in Aspen, Colorado to the total shock of her family. They all head to Aspen for Christmas! Maggie and Nick are hiding a secret from their girls and Kate, an A and E doctor (ER) is determined to stop the wedding!

Initially, I didn’t think I would get into this book as for the first few chapters it is so over detailed and laborious that I began to glaze over with the minutia because a lot of which is mundane. However, as the author gets into her stride I began to really enjoy it. There are some lovely moments of humour - one I particularly like is when Maggie gets absolutely trollied on the plane journey to Denver as she doesn’t like flying. The scenes at the airport are easy to picture and I found myself chuckling! There is some amusing dialogue and some entertaining situations that are nicely interspersed with the drama. I adored the Colorado setting - a perfect place for Christmas. Dan’s mother Catherine has created Snowfall Lodge which is an idyllic location amongst the snow and pines. The characters are very likeable too. Kate seems like a prickly pear, very feisty but she’s very caring and carrying a lot of concerns and some baggage. Her love for Rosie is tangible and her desire to protect her is laudable, if a bit smothering! I like the repartee between her and best man,Jordan. Initially, Catherine seems too perfect to be true but she too is very likeable. Maggie is fabulous and you realise just how much she has sacrificed for her girls and Nick. The Aspen setting allows them to really talk and sort themselves out.

Although I suppose it’s a predicable romcom with all’s well that ends well, it is very enjoyable and at times quite joyous. It’s a feel good book which we all need from time to time!

Maggie and Nick White raised their two daughters, Katie and Rosie, at Honeysuckle Cottage, in Oxford, England. Katie is an ER trauma physician and Rosie recently left for Harvard in a fully-funded doctoral program. Unknown to their daughters, Maggie and Nick are near divorce having been separated for the last six months. When Rosie calls Maggie in the middle of the night to tell them she’s not only engaged but getting married at Christmas in less than four weeks...in Aspen, Colorado, their lives are thrown into chaos. Maggie decides now isn’t the time to tell Rosie and Katie about their parents’ crumbling marriage, Katie thinks she needs to find a way to covertly convince her sister this is a mistake while she hides her own recent trauma and Rosie keeps quiet about her own doubts. The occasion of Rosie’s wedding sets in motion some hilarious moments as the White family descends on Colorado, their first Christmas away from Honeysuckle Cottage.

I really enjoyed this layered story, told from the points of view of Maggie, Katie and Rosie. Maggie & Nick’s ruse to present themselves as a still loving couple provides for some interesting and truly funny situations. The effect of Katie’s recent trauma, revealed slowly throughout the story, provides a more serious tone as she reflects on her life and questions her career choice. Rosie’s sweet nature is challenged as her family continues to relate to her as the young, asthmatic child that they all had to take care of and make decisions for. Their communication issues created a lot more angst than necessary but was deftly handled so that it didn’t become tiresome.

The beautiful setting in the Christmas season made this a delightful story. I really enjoyed Lucy Tregear’s narration as she has great comedic skills and timing. While there wasn’t much in the way of character distinction by Tregear, the character definition was strong enough to compensate. All three women were strongly developed and designed so I always knew who was speaking and the transitions were announced. This was a perfect story for the season, one that I was reluctant to see end. Morgan’s annual Christmas stories are now one of my must reads.

When I picked this up I wasn’t expecting for it to become one of my top reads of 2019, largely because no matter how much I love Sarah Morgan’s writing her women’s fiction and I haven’t got along particularly well, but also because 5-star reads are like hen’s teeth for me the moment. My dry spell is officially over.

description We’re getting married on Christmas Eve.”

Rosie is marrying Dan, her older sister, Katie is determined to halt proceedings whilst rubbing the best man, Jordan up the wrong way and harbouring her own secrets, and their parents, Nick and Maggie are secretly separated yet acting like love’s young dream in front of their daughters. Unsurprisingly, this is a family who have lost their way a little and between them have an entire luggage store of emotional baggage to unpack, but there’s no better place to do that the beautiful snowy backdrop of the Colorado mountains at Christmastime.

description ...sometimes it’s nice not to have to fight your way through life alone.”

Heartwarming, uplifting and with moments of hilarity, A Wedding in December has reignited my love of Sarah Morgan’s work and with a more contemporary feel for me it hit all the high notes with down-to-earth, relatable, at times frustrating but loveable characters and a story which brought lighter angst and drama yet no shortage of romance and feeling. And whether the men are in their twenties, thirties or fifties, they make you melt with their charm, heart and wit.

description I never read a romance novel. Maybe if I had, I might have learned a thing or two.

I can’t tell you how happy I am that I gave this a chance and whether you’re a lover of Sarah Morgan or new to her writing, you’ll have no regrets in curling up with this, Christmas or not.

In this Christmas destination wedding book, Maggie’s family is gathering for the wedding of her youngest daughter, Rosie. But no one is thrilled that Rosie is getting married to a man she’s barely known for months. Her sister Katie is a trauma surgeon, extremely overworked and hiding secrets of her own. But none of them compare to Maggie’s—that she and her husband Nick are planning to divorce. They decide not to tell the girls and spoil Christmas and the wedding—but as they pretend to be still in love, in a snowy Christmas wonderland, is there a second chance possible? This Sarah Morgan novel was a bit more subdued in tone than some of her other Christmas novels I’ve read, but I still enjoyed it. The Aspen setting was richly described and I loved all the details of the tree house, getting trapped in a blizzard, and the dog sledding through the snow!

A Wedding in December
centers around the three White women: Maggie the mom, and her two adult girls, Katie and Gracie, each having their own life crisis. Twenty-two-year-old Gracie calls home to announce she’s getting married on Christmas Eve, in Aspen, Colorado, disrupting their family tradition of Christmas in at home in the family home of Honeysuckle Cottage, Oxford, England, and the wedding is to take place in just a few weeks.

Maggie has been separated from Nick after thirty-two years of marriage and they’re headed for divorce, even though they don’t hate each other and the thought fills Maggie with sadness. She convinces her estranged husband to pretend they’re still together so as not to ruin Gracie’s wedding with their news.

Katie, an ER doctor, had a traumatic experience at work, and is dealing with PTSD, but even before that her job had been sucking the life out of her. When Katie hears the news of her sister’s impending wedding, she’s sure this is just another one of Gracie’s rash decisions, so she makes plans to go and stop it before Gracie makes a huge mistake.

Gracie is getting married to a man she loves with her whole heart, but after speaking with her mom and sister she wonders if she was a little impulsive making the date so soon. Is she making the right choice?

The White family arrive in Aspen to a winter wonderland, but will their troubles spoil the beauty?

I was so charmed by this story even if I did want to shake the characters a time or two. All their problems felt realistic and understandable, even if I thought the solutions were simple if they just took the time to step back and analyze. I feel like I could be guilty of irrational and unreasonable reactions when dealing with high emotions, with people I love, so I could totally understand where each person was coming from. With that said, I think Katie tried my patience the most, because I felt like she was butting in where she had no business. However, in the context of Katie’s life and their upbringing I could understand even though she was creating drama, it stemmed from love.

I think I was most invested in Maggie and Nick’s story, because I felt sort of a bond being of a similar age and being married the same amount of years. I really wanted these two to work things out, there didn’t seem any good reason not to. Gracie’s wedding forced them to spend time together in sort of a fake “second honeymoon” situation that led to rediscovery of feelings, passion and love. I adored their journey!

A Wedding in December
touched my heart and made me root for the happiness of every characters! And the setting of Christmas in Aspen, snow, pine trees, gondola rides, snowball fights, and warm fires was perfection! Beautifully described and just so lovely! Perfect read for this time of year!

A Wedding in December by Sarah Morgan

Alternating POV from Maggie, Rosie, and Katie. The mother and two daughters.
Three very different women yet related. Three very different phases of life and love.
Each must deal with the own love issues as they come together for Rosie’s wedding.

Contemporary romance. Lots of emotional variables, life issues and love. Lots of happy tears.
I loved the writing flow, even as the chapters changed perspective between the three women.
Smart and fulfilling.

Excerpt of ER Doctor Katie:

“Was this why she found it so hard to have a lasting relationship with someone? Subconsciously had she held back from experiencing that intense, terrifying depth of feeling? She moved through life with such purpose, she rarely stopped to reflect. Had she, somewhere along the way, rejected love?
Maybe not love, but vulnerability. She’d rejected vulnerability. She witnessed it constantly in her work. The fear in the face of a relative, the panic in the face of a patient who felt life sliding out of control.
Her experiences in her job had reinforced those same feelings of helplessness she’d experienced as a young child and she’d unconsciously wrapped her heart in layers of protection so that she felt the blows less.
She didn’t like feeling vulnerable, but she felt it now as she looked at her sister.

A simple, cosy, christmasy story and on top of everything sweet. Maybe too sweet for my liking. There was no suspense, no passionate romance to look forward to and childish characters who were not a 100 % developed. Rosie is marrying this gorgeous guy and the reader does not know anything about their relationship. We see no bond, even though Rosie claims she is madly in love. We don't see the connection. Her sister, Katie is a doctor who acts like a toddler. Their parents are a joke. As for Rosie's mother-in-law, she is almost described as a super woman who can pull out anything. My problem with this story is that the characters are not realistic and the reader can't connect with them .
Apart from all this, it's a story written in a simple, understandable way, is not confusing and doesn't hide any significant meaning. For relaxation purposes this is your book but don't expect a story that will change your life. Believe me, it won't.

I love this book and everything about it! It was wonderful! Perfect, cute, and cozy read for the Christmas season. The characters was wonderfully written with good detail and so much personality! This novel is told in three points of view. First is Maggie, a mom who is in the process of divorcing her longtime husband, Nick. Next we hear about Katie, whom is Maggie's oldest daughter. Katie is a very successful doctor, but doesn't really have the best outlook when it comes to love. Which is interesting when you hear from the final point of view of Rosie, Maggie's youngest daughter, who has just informed her family she is getting married on Christmas to a man she has only known for a month. Now Maggie, Nick, and Katie much travel to Aspen for Rosie and Dan's wedding. And boy is it one heck of an experience! It was such an awesome read and I'm so glad I picked it up. Perfect Christmas read!

2.5 stars.

After the dumpster fire that has been 2020, this Christmas I wanted to immerse myself in something light and fluffy. Mistake number 1. I don't read light and fluffy and I don't like most contemporary. I don't think I was ever going to gel with a book like this.

A Wedding in December is the story of three women - Maggie and her two adult children Katie and Rosie. After Rosie springs a surprise Christmas wedding on the family, everyone travels to Aspen for the festivities. But each woman is hiding a secret. Maggie has recently separated from her husband Nick, meaning the two must pretend to still be together in order not to ruin Rosie's big day. Katie, the perfectionist doctor, is currently on leave from her job following a harrowing event. As such, she's re-evaluating what she's worked so hard for and doesn't want to disappoint her family. And Rosie is questioning her gunshot wedding to Dan. Do they really know each other?

I thought the characters in this were fine. They're well developed, but I just couldn't connect with them. If anything, they're all a little dull and predictable. The plot is also, as expected, pretty obvious from the get go. It certainly created a safe and cosy atmosphere, set against this beautiful backdrop of snow and mountains, but I was just bored. And the ending was very cheesy. It's funny that I'm quite happy to watch films like this, but I hate reading stories of a similar vein.

Basically, I wanted dragons and magic and I was never going to get that. Totally my fault.

I received this book for free from the publisher (Harlequin) as part of their bookstagram publicity campaign.

I give this book 3.5 stars which rounds up to 4.

I’ve read one other Sarah Morgan book and loved it so I was really looking forward to reading this one. However, I didn’t love this book as much as I thought I would.

My main issue was the amount of inner dialogue. In the beginning of the book, so much time was spent just on the inner feelings of the 3 main characters. That could have been condensed down significantly. It wasn’t hard to grasp how the characters were feeling, so a lot of the inner dialogue felt repetitive and didn’t do much to advance the story. The book felt a little bogged down by it.

description

The other thing I didn’t quite love was that the ending was a little anti-climatic. There was some stuff that happened off page that I wanted to see play out in the book.

As for the things I liked, I did like the setting. It will give you massive vacation envy. It truly was a winter wonderland which made it perfect to read during the holiday season.

I also liked that one of the storylines focused on the parents’ romantic relationship. That was refreshing to see. You don’t often see older couples in romance novels.

Overall, this book didn’t quite meet my expectations, but it was still enjoyable.

Quaint, alluring, and evocative!

A Wedding in December is a delightfully amusing, heartfelt tale that sweeps you away to the beautiful winter wonderland of Aspen, Colorado and immerses you into the lives of the White family, especially three strong women, as they gather to celebrate, interrogate, support, heal, grow, communicate, repair relationships, take chances, and start anew.

The prose is vivid and expressive. The characters are genuine, reliable, and compassionate. And the plot, including all the subplots, intertwine and unravel effortlessly into a mesmerizing tale of life, love, friendship, self-reflection, determination, independence, happiness, humorous mishaps, romantic moments, and the special bonds between sisters.

Overall, A Wedding in December is another absorbing, uplifting, magical tale by Morgan that does a brilliant job of highlighting her exceptional ability to create relatable characters, idyllic places, and memorable storylines that thoroughly enchant from start to finish.

Thank you to Harlequin Books & HarperCollins Canada for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Relatable, charming, heart warming and a read that will leave you with all the warm and fuzzies. A novel perfect not only for romance lovers out there but those looking for a story that is full of Christmas spirit. With a beautiful Colorado setting that almost makes me wish it was Christmas time here as well, this truly was an uplifting story that not only felt real but ended with a happy note that will leave you with a smile on your face and sad that the story is over.

A Wedding in December was my first Sarah Morgan novel and I can say with certainty that it won't be my last. I definitely have a new romance author to fall in love with and be excited about.

I liked this more than I thought I would. I don’t read woman’s fiction/family epics very often, so this probably seemed more fresh to me than to readers who regularly read this sub-genre. SM’s romance writer tendencies are still strong, though. There are two HEAs and one HFN for the three relationships she explores. Plus one sex scene for each.

I liked the premise which is why I picked it up and the opening scene kept me reading.

The mom is separated from her husband of 30+ years. (They drifted apart – no OWs, no violent arguments, etc . . .) She receives a phone call (on US Thanksgiving Day) from her younger daughter (age 22) who is in graduate school in the US. Daughter is getting married to a guy she’s known for 4 months and they want to have the wedding in Colorado at Christmas.

The mom panics because:
1. She hates to fly
2. She hasn’t told her daughters that she and their father are planning to divorce
3. She has been living for English Christmas with all the trimmings that has been her thing throughout her marriage.
4. She doubts her dithering daughter is mature enough to marry
5. This is part of the ongoing doubt the entire family has about daughter #2 who has suffered from life-threatening asthma her whole life.
6. She needs a lot of planning time.

The eldest (age 32 and single) daughter’s pov is featured in the next chapter. She is an overworked emergency room doctor in London. She also panics about the wedding in Colorado.

1. She has a secret she’s been keeping from the family,
2. She dotes on her sister but is overprotective because of her asthma. (Which is why she became a doctor)
3. She ultimately decides to travel to Colorado because she is determined to stop the wedding.

So mom and dad have to pretend to be madly in love and older sister has to hide her trauma so they the youngest can have a happy wedding.

There are some funny scenes and some gorgeous descriptions of the boutique hotel the groom’s mother runs. All the characters are likeable – except for the older sister who is *understandable * but not very likable (at least to this reader). I liked that this was about family dynamics rather than a wedding party that was full of sequel bait.

This is definitely a feel-good winter’s tale, so if that is your aesthetic, blast the AC and pretend you’re snuggled in on a snowy night. It’s just a nice light story – the winter equivalent of a beach read.

I absolutely adored A Wedding in December. This is exactly the fun, sweet, warm, witty story that I like to read any time of year but especially in the dead of winter. Don’t you just feel all warm and toasty reading a good love story? Okay, yeah, I maybe stretching it a little but you know what I mean!

Rosie, an ex-pat from the UK, is marrying a yank from Aspen Colorado. Her family has flown in to celebrate the big day but not everyone is in the mood for festivities. Rosie’s parents are on the brink of divorce and her sister, Katie, who always has had a say in everything Rosie has done, is not happy about the groom, a man she has never met. When Katie meets his best friend, she is even less happy. Hi-jinks and shenanigans abound as the White family tries to keep secrets, break up the wedding, put everything back together again AND salvage their familial relationships. The writing is perfect, the characters are so realistic and the fun is abounding in this charming WINTER tale! I highly recommend it any time of the year.

Sarah Morgan is at her ‘festive best’ in her new book, which is a touching family drama. A Wedding in December has all the feels, along with plenty of holiday cheer. Set in the snowy locale of Aspen, A Wedding in December encompasses plenty of love, laughter and heartwarming moments. It is a great Christmas holiday read.

A Wedding in December introduces the White Family. With mother Maggie at the helm, with her husband Nick, along with their two daughters, Katie and Rosie, this family is gearing up for the wedding of the year. This wedding comes as quite the shock for the White family, as Rosie’s new romance was swift and fast. But for Rosie’s loving parents, Maggie and Nick, something is going on behind the scenes which they both want to keep hidden from their daughter. Nick and Maggie know that in revealing their intentions to divorce, they will ruin Rosie’s special day. Their daughter’s wedding becomes a living nightmare for these parents, who cannot stand the sight of one another. Another person stiffly opposed to Rosie’s quick smart wedding is Katie, Rosie’s older sister. Katie is concerned that Rosie hasn’t thought through the implications of her desire to marry so quickly. She wants to warn her sister off the impending wedding, but she is sidetracked the handsome best man of the wedding. Finally, the person at the centre of it all, Rosie, is having her own doubts about going ahead with this shotgun wedding. A Wedding in December is a story told with heart, passion and a touch of humour.

A Wedding in December marks the second novel I have read in the space of a year by USA Today bestselling author Sarah Morgan. I was lucky to acquire this novel via my book club’s recent Secret Santa meet. When I unwrapped this book I was immediately struck by the beautiful winter Christmas feel cover. While we are sweltering here in Australia in forty degree plus conditions, A Wedding in December made for a cool change. This was a breezy and relaxing read, which came just in time for the holiday season.

A Wedding in December takes on a series of family related issues and sets these problems to a snowy backdrop. Sarah Morgan’s latest explores impending marriage, separation, strained relations, divorce, instant love, sibling bonds and familial relationships. The scenarios and accompanying dialogue presented by Morgan is realistic. I am sure readers will see elements of themselves and their lives reflected in the White family set.

Morgan’s characterisation is one of this book’s strengths. We are taken into the fold of the White family almost immediately and Morgan allows us to get to know each member of this family. As the book progresses, we pick up on their fears, desires, flaws and strong personality traits. Each was contrasted and Morgan ensures that all of her characters have something they need to face up to during the course of the book. It is a bumpy ride, with a few revelations, but by the close of the story everything is tied up.

I am unable to close off this review without giving recognition to the rich sense of place evoked by Sarah Morgan. Aspen is a place I’ve always dreamed of visiting during the festive winter season. A Wedding in December reminded me of my desire to make this a must see destination in the future. Aspen is the perfect location for the festivities of a December wedding to take place and it provided a nice offset to the very hot conditions we are currently facing across Australia. A Wedding in December offers a sense of pure holiday escapism to the reader.

A Wedding in December will awaken your Christmas senses and cheer. It is an undemanding read, which I liked, but I didn’t love completely. Women’s fiction fans and those who gravitate towards family drama based novels will be sure to enjoy all this one has to offer.

This is the first Sarah Morgan book that's taken me half the way to get into it. My biggest problem was the chapters were so long, you were with the same character for too long in one go. You had no chance for a breather in the long chapters. Shorter chapters would have been preferable for me.

As for the story I felt it took too long to get going. When half way through it was like a different book the characters were finally feeling more like they were real. Maggie, Rosie and Katie are all strong characters, but I would have liked one side from a male perspective. I liked Katie's story the most with her highs and lows of being an A and E doctor.

Maggie has been a mom and wife almost her entire adult life. Ever since her youngest daughter, Rosie, left the house 4-years earlier, she has felt an emptiness left behind by her two girls. And now her marriage of over thirty years to her husband, Nick, appears to be over. Since the summer, Nick and Maggie have been living separately, but they haven’t yet broken the news to Rosie and Katie.

Unexpectedly, Maggie gets a call in the middle of the night from Rosie all the way in the United States. She’s getting married to Dan, a man she’s only been dating a couple months, and they are due to be married on Christmas Eve, only a few weeks away. Maggie is happy for Rosie, but isn’t a few weeks just too soon? And how is she going to tell her about the separation?

Katie has been a doctor for the last 10-years and has a love-hate relationship with her job as an ER trauma physician. She is constantly tired, has no personal time, but Katie always felt a sense of pride in regard to her career. But 2-months ago, something happened that changed everything for her and she doesn’t know where to go from here. When she learns of her baby sister’s engagement, Katie knows she needs to stop the wedding at all costs in order to save her sister from herself. And it just so happens she’s been put on medical leave for a month, giving her plenty of time to accomplish her goal.

Maggie and Nick decide to keep their separation a secret from their kids for the sake of the wedding, and so they travel to Aspen, Colorado pretending that they are still as happy as can be. Maggie is nervous to meet Dan’s mom, who seems to have her life all figured out. And she worries that Catherine is railroading Rosie’s wedding plans.

And Katie is on their coattails, ready to make her big move. Katie wasn’t expecting to get stuck with the best man, Jordan, for a 5-hour car ride to the lodge. From the get-go, the two of them just can’t seem to get along, but oddly enough, there’s something about Jordan that Katie finds herself attracted to.

Rosie didn’t think she had any doubts about her impending marriage to Dan, but when her family arrives in Colorado, she starts to question her own decision. And when the White family gets all back together under one roof, they learn that life is full of surprises—and this Christmas is one they won’t soon forget.

A Wedding in December is Sarah Morgan’s latest warm and cozy contemporary holiday read. Last year I read The Christmas Sisters and fell in love with the four women in that story; I’m happy to say I’ve fallen just as hard for the three White ladies. They’re all complex, multi-layered characters that aren’t all good (or bad). Some took longer to grow on me, but by the end I found myself tearing up over their stories. I love books about family dynamics with a hint of romance and this did it for me. A must read for this holiday season! 4/5 stars.

Thank you NetGalley, HQN and Sarah Morgan for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I LOVED IT. RTC.

"She felt strange-a combination of giddy teenager and anxious mother. She knew life did that-it dished out good and bad on the same plate and you were expected to eat it all up. She knew from experience that it was possible to smile and cry at the same time. To grieve and rejoice in the same breath."

Last year was my first time reading a Sarah Morgan and I decided then and there that she would be an auto buy for me. A Wedding in December was a beautiful story about a family who clearly loves one another but are keeping secrets to protect each other; parents protecting children, big sister protecting little sister, big sister protecting little sister AND parents. While the romances (yes plural) are great, seeing this family learn to communicate and rely on one another was the highlight of the book.

Yes, it’s only September and I’m already reading Christmas books and I’m totally ok with that! I do want to point out that while this is set right before and during Christmas, it’s not overly holiday heavy if that makes sense. You can easily read it right now like I did or wait until closer to the holiday season, honestly it would be perfect at any time of year!

Sarah Morgan is one of my go to authors, but I have to say that she has a magic touch when it comes to writing seasonal books. This had such a gorgeous setting, it made me want to book a trip to Colorado for Christmas myself, it was beautifully described and also gave me so many warm and cozy feelings. You hear from all three women in the family, mom Maggie, and daughters Katie and Rosie and I just adored all three of them for various reasons. I connected to Maggie as a wife and mom and both daughters were relatable for me as well, although Katie was prickly and it took me some time to warm up to her. This doesn’t fit solely under a romance umbrella or a straight up WF novel either because it has both romance between all the main characters and it also explores the dynamics between mother and daughter and sisters.

I absolutely loved this one, it was charming and warm, a little emotional and overall just a totally satisfying read for me. I highly recommend adding this one to your holiday reading list, it was wonderful l and if it doesn’t make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside I don’t’ know what will!

I recognize that I’m completely in the minority here, but for whatever reason, I just did not connect with this story at all. I understand why others liked it, but it just wasn’t for me.

I didn’t like the sister in the story at all and that really affected my enjoyment of the story. Honestly, just about everything about her behavior and decisions bothered me. I also wasn’t a fan of the mother regarding her relationship with her spouse. He seemed to be trying so hard to mend their relationship and she was determined to stay the divorce route just because they had said that’s what they would do. It made no sense to me. The story also, ultimately felt entirely too predictable. I knew what was coming, kind of dreaded it, then knew what the resolution would be, so felt unmotivated to finish it. That does happen in other Christmas books, but for some reason it bothered me in this case.

Oh well, it happens, and that’s why we have such a wide variety of books out there for readers to choose from.

Was in the mood for a cozy Christmassy read and I was definitely lucky to pick this up. It hit all the right marks for mez family oriented, some love and some troubles and a lot of cozy reading moments. Will probably look for more Christmas books by Sarah Morgan before December ends but this was a perfect read for November with Christmas on the horizon
