EL JEFE, book three in the Michael Taylor crime thriller series, starts off with a bang with a take no prisoners interrogation scene, and never lets up. Detective Michael Taylor is unfairly under a veil of suspicion because of corruption on the local Oakland, California police force. Michael and his partner, Alex are investigation the murder of a woman found alone in her house when his supervisor arrives on scene in the middle of the night. When his corrupt supervisor, Lt. Vega suspends him on a made-up charge, Michael and his friends have no choice but to try to take down Vega and his men, who are involved in drug trafficking, in order to clear Michael’s name. Pacing was well done, with the book split between Alex investigating the murder of Maya McDowell and Michael taking the lead on the investigation of Vega down in Mexico. Great detail of police work and weapons. I like Michael and Aslyn both as a couple and as a crime fighting team. Their relationship takes some important steps forward in this book. The last 25% of this book really kicked things into high gear and the last few chapters proposed some interesting developments for certain characters. Excited to see where this series goes next!
El Jefe was the perfect way to continue the Michael Taylor story. Hard-hitting, thrilling and suspenseful. Tiffany delivers a magnificent story, two actually, with wit and style. I'm not a huge fan of crime fiction, but after reading the three Michael Taylor books, I am finding a new appreciation for the genre. Nothing about this book is slow paced and yet the story builds just like you had been watching it unfold since day one. While the two story narrative might get a bit rushed at parts, it all works out given that Alex is given an excellent amount of spotlight. This is a tale of two partners. A great tale. Tiffany also has a way of writing villains. You love to despise them and they are great bad guys. This is a great addition to the series and I think we can all agree that Tiffany Christina Lewis will be a household name of crime fiction!
Once again an amazing book featuring Detective Michael. He’s absolutely fantastic, strong and smart. He’s on the job and if anyone can get the job done , it’s Michael.
