Laura Heffernan once broke up with her now-husband during a board game after realizing that he was ahead 96-3. She hasn't played that particular game since. Her best friend still talks about the Great Uno Card Throwing Incident of 2003. Yet, somehow, Laura insists that she is incredibly gracious whether winning or losing. She lives in the northeast with her husband, new baby, and two furry little beasts.
[4.5] I'm not sure why, but this book wasn't at all what I expected. I signed up for this arc, and by the time I was approved, I believe I had completely forgotten about the given synopsis and never looked at it again.
The first part of this book broke my heart. I've always loved books about severe weather, and this one absolutely didn't disappoint. The detail that Laura Heffernan put into this was phenomenal, both the hurricane and legal aspects. It genuinely felt as if I were in the story with Anna, taking shelter during the storm. I wasn't expecting the revenge porn aspect whatsoever, so when that was introduced, I was both shocked and horrified.
I adored Anna. She's one of the most inspiring, empowering female leads that I've read about in a while. She was well written, and I loved that despite everything, she kept going. Her downward spiral after the incident was so well described that it threw me off a bit. I loved that Heffernan showed how something so twisted could affect someone, especially someone with previous mental health problems.
Eric was frustrating, to say the least. When Anna first accused him of leaking the nude photos, I expected a plot twist that revealed that he wasn't actually the culprit. However, once the book went into detail about Anna's relationship with him, I instantly knew I was wrong. I've read plenty of books with horrible characters, but I don't think any of them have angered me as much as Eric.
Jay also frustrated me, but not nearly as bad as Eric. I don't have much to say about Jay other than I'm glad he broke up with Anna because it showed her that he wasn't truly worth the time and energy.
Tara is one of the greatest best friends I've read about in a book. I absolutely loved her, and I wish we had seen more of her. You could tell she truly cared about Anna, whether it be over her mental health or relationships.
The entire legal aspect of the book is what held my attention for the most part. I love legal thrillers, so I was really excited with the mention of something of the sort. The trial was both frustrating and heartbreaking to read about, particularly with the judgment Anna got for her ex's choices and actions.
Despite how much I loved this book, I have to take half a star off because the beginning of it, while interesting, did move a bit slow for me. It wasn't until about halfway through that I started getting so into it I'd have to force myself to put it down. Otherwise, everything was great. I loved the characters and the overall theme of the book.

What a fantastic piece of writing, this story really brings home the consequences of photos in the wrong hands. This is a really interesting story, the characters are easy to imagine but also the depth of the issues that occur and the severity of what it could do to your health. It’s, a love story that will keep you gripped to the very end. The narrator is in my opinion a very talented person, the ease of how she flows between characters is superb, whether male or female. Raquel really does bring this book to life.
Just when Anna thought the destruction of her world by a hurricane was the worst thing that could happen, her jealous ex Eric took revenge porn to epic, billboard sized levels- costing Anna nearly everything important she had left: job, friend, love relationship
Anna’s story does not end with her life being blown up. It continues as Anna, a good friend, and a good lawyer work to make clear it is not okay for someone to destroy someone else’s life just because they can.
Intense and emotional effort to stand up
The journey that is the fight is the most important next step

Sadly this was a DNF for me. I enjoyed Finding Tranquility by this author and hoped I would enjoy this one too, but it was just too sad and depressing for me. I got until 24% when I decided to DNF it as it was just one bad thing after another happening with no ray of hope or light. That might come later though, but I wasn't invested enough to continue and hope for that.
I had a really hard time putting this book down. It was so engaging. Anna's character is really well-developed, and the plot was complex enough to be interesting but not so complex that I got lost. I have read a few other Heffernan books, and this is by far her best work (so far).
Whilst Anna shelters from a hurricane, someone from her past is creating an online storm to tear her life apart and ensure it’s never the same again.
This book delivered a lot more then I anticipated. I expected a shocking betrayal and then the perpetrator punished in a humiliating way ...but in a light hearted way like in the film “The other woman”. There were elements of this but so much more. The effects of the revenge porn are devastating on Anna’s life and we see fall out in intricate detail. I learnt a lot about the ripple effects of revenge porn. For most of the book we don’t have much proof of who did this so I enjoyed theorising about this and suspecting a few characters in anticipation of a twist. The latter part of the book is tense and I wasn’t sure Anna would get the outcome she deserved. The ending felt a little rushed, but it’s a page turner for sure.
I love Laura Heffernan's other works, but I was still pleasantly surprised with Anna's Guide to Getting Even. This book follows Anna, a high-level exec who is forced to face an extreme case of revenge porn. With her career and reputation at risk, the case goes to trial. Heffernan takes her readers on a wild ride, from one disaster to another, with poise and grace. Her writing and characters draw the reader in and don't let go from the initial hurricane scene to the epilogue. As a bonus, her legal knowledge adds to the heft and plausibility of the book. I highly recommend Anna's Guide to Getting Even for readers who enjoy strong characters, sophisticated writing, and legal stories.
Anna was a highly successful up and comer until after a hurricane, her ex distributes non-consensual private images without her permission or knowledge to willfully destroy her career. He succeeds and she’s blamed and vilified for it. I like that some one addressed this issue that purposefully hurts women. This doesn’t happen to men. And it’s illegal or should be in all states.
She had everything until the storm but and now she has been left with nothing but it is about to get worse. Then private photos have been posted by an ex. It gets even worse so she turns to brooze and pills. She hit rock bottom and she decides to get even. How will she do it? Can she do it? See how she gets on

One minute she seemed to have it all. Then the forces of nature combine with a vengeful ex-boyfriend to make Anna wondet. I liked this book that though difficult as Anna works to take back her sense of control and work to hold a crappy person accountable for being a thoughtless smuck. Brava!

I really enjoyed this book. At first I was skeptical - poor high powered executive loses house, boyfriend, job, reputation all in the first couple of chapters: poor self-indulgent her. BUT it was so much more than that. Funny, sad, self-depreciating, reading this book flew by and I was sad to see it end. Recommended.
Anna's guide to getting even I enjoyed reading this book and think the author writes a good story. I was unsure if I would be able to read this but found it a good read. Intense and emotional. Not my normal genre but still a really good read! Revenge porn is disgusting and it shows it can ruin someone. A true jerk! I am excited for the future for her 😍
When I read the book's title I thought it was going to be about something completely different. I thought it was going to be a revenge story and be lighthearted and funny. I was pleasantly surprised to be wrong. Excellent story.
