In One Man’s River, O.W. Smith casts deeply into the waters of meaning and purpose, providing insights which can transform your angling, your outdoor experience, and enrich your life beyond the stream. O. W. Smith questions how and why we interact with the natural world. One Man’s River will change how you fish in a fundamental way.
This has probably been my favorite book within the "fly fishing" genre of literature. The version listed here on GoodReads is actually a modern reprint of an older book called Musings of an Angler.
This book is a collection of short stories by a midwesterner written during the early 1900's. The author focuses on the nature that surrounds fly fishing more often than on the fishing itself. Onnie Warren Smith was known more for his books titled Trout Lore and Casting Tackle and Methods, but this book is a look into his perspectives on the true meaning of fishing.
O.W. Smith was also inducted into the Fishing Hall of Fame under the category of "Legendary Communicator."
This book has lead me to other authors, while providing great reading enjoyment. If you have an Angling Literature collection, I would recommend seeking out this book.
Absolutely one of the best books I've ever read about fishing. It is spiritual, beautiful, and relaxing. It takes you to the stream and makes you want to go back as often as you can.
