What is it like to be an Enneagram Three? Pastor Sean Palmer reflects on this question in a spirit of honest self-assessment. He draws wisdom from the deep wells of both counseling and spirituality using illustrations from Scripture and life. Each of the forty daily readings concludes with an opportunity for further engagement such as a journaling prompt, a written prayer, or a spiritual practice. Any of us can find aspects of ourselves in any of the numbers. The Enneagram is a profound tool for empathy, so whether or not you are a Three, you will grow from your reading about Threes and enhance your relationships across the Enneagram spectrum.
Sean Palmer is the teaching pastor at Ecclesia Houston, a speaker, and an executive coach. He is the author of Speaking By The Numbers, 40 Days on Being an 3 (Enneagram Daily Reflections), Unarmed Empire and a contributing writer to The Voice Bible. Sean is vice-chair of the Missio Alliance board. He and his wife, Rochelle, live in Houston, Texas.
This was at times challenging because eek certain things resonate that I wished weren’t true, at times encouraging, and at other times felt irrelevant to me. Because each of us are nuanced and complex human beings, of course not every description of Enneagram 3 is going to apply, but it was still sometimes helpful and insightful to read.
If other 3s out there are interested in reading, I will note that the writer speaks from a Christian perspective.
This daily devotional has been deeply meaningful over these past 40 days. It has been spiritually rejuvenating, convicting toward healthy growth, and an eye-opening prayer partner. If you are a Christian and are familiar with the Enneagram, I HIGHLY recommend finding the devotional for your Enneagram type and getting started right away!
I have started a quasi deep dive into the world of enneagram so and this was a 40 day devotional on being a 3. I am interested in the enneagram as it helps me understand others, as well as, reflect on my own heart and actions. I would say I am a 3w2 (for anyone reading this who knows and/or cares what that means). So I find myself a people pleaser and overly goal oriented. But reading this book as a stay at home mom, who has to find her achievement goals through being overly organized or planning epic events, the author of this book is a man whose goals are very different from mine. But that being said, I would say 75% of his devotional went straight to my heart and really felt inspired and convicted by his insight and advice. I would recommend this series of enneagram devotionals to someone who would like heartfelt and poignant messages to your personality type.
Having someone write daily reminders *directly* to me and my struggles was unnerving some days. Has he read my journals? This book offers a tool to threes seeking health. The personal nature of this book spoke hope and challenge to me in my journey. It will stay in heavy rotation as I am certain I will need these truths again and again.
This one was better and more helpful than I expected. It definitely felt like the author knew my sins and challenges from the inside out and gently encouraged me. It had the potential of being very trite, but was actually a great read.
The advantage of this series is that each book was written by a person with that Enneagram number, rather than one person writing about all nine Enneagram types.
Sean Palmer is a classic Three, learned about its dark side, and leans into its healthy strengths. His advice is well taken.
I really related to about 1/3 of this book. The other 2/3s were directed more towards social or one-to-one threes. As a self pres three, I don't relate to a lot of the stereo typical three traits, so that's why this devotional gets 3 stars from me. Ha! See what I did there?!
I am an enneagram 9 but seeing Sean's book encouraged me to read his and then I found the Forty Days on Being a 9. This is a great series and is very encouraging which is just what we need in today's world. If you're not familiar with your enneagram, check it out and then check out Sean's books. You won't be sorry.
