"A great amount of research in a highly organized manner. It is of vital importance to the African-American and the world community. This information is essential for professionals and everyone to utilize in lifestyle and to self." (William Richardson, M.D., Atlanta Clinic for Preventive Medicine, GA)
There's some very valuable information in this book; but there's also some very unnecessary, biased, racial supremacy talk that's difficult to overlook. Most of the remedies involve increased intake of vitamins, minerals, nutrients that any human being will find beneficial. Dr. Afrika strongly encourages a holistic approach to healing the body and this includes stepping away from a westernized diet. All the standards apply: avoid processed foods, prescription medications, white flour, sugar; focus on eating fruits, vegetables and healthy grains instead of meats and junk; exercise regularly; utilize essential oils, herbal remedies (specifics are listed) and spiritual practices.
Menstruation is not normal??? Vegetarians only menstruate one or two drops of blood, if they menstruate at all??? The author of this book is clearly out of touch with reality.
Wow!!!! Thought provoking and I still remain shocked by all the information I read in this awesome book. This is not just for people of color or of african descent, this is for all people. Rituals and traditions began somewhere..its time to find out how, why, and the reason its time to let them go.
I'm going to be completely honest and admit I havnt atcually read the whole book. I skipped through most of it as it has a lot of vitamin recommendations for different illnesses. I know I will keep referring back to this book, for vitamin recommendations and food recommendations. This is a must read for anyone who is interested in natural remedys, and would like to know more about toxity in our food and makeup.
This book will stay with me for the rest of my life! Ive learned so much and im so thankful go have come across Dr. Afrika. He makes so much sense and speaks exactly as people need to hear it. The book might sound a little biased/harsh towards white people but hey... he has alot of reason. So as long as you can read this book with an open mind it will really benefit alot of people. Especially vegans like myself. Id give beyond 5 stars if i could.
This book was pretty good! It definitely armed me with the information I need to to forward on my journey to veganism. I do feel like I'll have to do more research on processes to further connect my mind with my body though. It's a very good intro to African holistic health practices.
This book is a definite must have. It gives us a different approach to health, history and medicinal science. Dr Laila introduces us to an African centered view-point of holistic health. This pivotal work brought a new perspective to the question of disease origin, diagnosis and treatment as it heightens the reader’s awareness of the convenient lifestyle (diet, sports, relationships...) . this book also clarifies the difference between the people of African descent and the caucasians . it delves into the past only because otherwise it would be impossible to understand how the present came into being that is why in the end of the book the author helps you learn about the history of Africa (from the ninth century to the eighteenth century)
Haven't read completely moreso use it as a guide for remedies and have more of an overstanding of ancient African health care that has been making it way back into many consciousness!!! Def recommend for my fellow pan african/Rastafari or african in the diaspora! Loved the principals of Ma'at when it comes to nourishment.. very informative reference guide.
