Night of Dracula

Rate this book
"Good evening.
I am...Dracula." From the night-cloaked mountains of Transylvania he comes, a sinister figure whose very name is synonymous with the Living Dead. But in the gleaming urban landscapes of the twenty-first century, who truly believes in the bloodthirsty superstitions of the past? Surely there are no such things as vampires, not in this day and age.

Or are there?

As a mysterious stranger moves among us, pursuing his own unfathomable agenda while feasting upon the throbbing veins of the captivated women who fall irresistibly under his spell, ancient legends prove all too accurate -- and the most celebrated vampire of them all haunts the night once more!

"Featuring an original introduction by Bela Lugosi Jr., son of the silver screen's greatest Dracula!

A modern day retelling of Dracula. It felt like a novelization of some movie adaptation that was made in 1989, or like a cheap direct-to-vhs movie. The dialogue is weirdly expository in some places, the elements from the original story just sort of show up with little to no explanation, and there's no foreshadowing of the twists that drive the last five or so chapters.
It isn't a complete find-and-replace modernization of the story. To the author's credit he has a few interesting ideas like the way I just feel it doesn't execute them well.
It's not bad per say, it just feels cheap. I could almost feel the cardboard set and the bad lighting.

I might recommend it to a fan of vampire fiction.

I got this book because I read Schildt's version of A Christmas Carol, which I REALLY loved. It is fantastic! I was expecting the usual vampire stuff but there was none of that. It's a totally different version that reads like a mystery. The ending is incredible!!!!!!!! Totally unexpected. The ending blew me away! It's not the worn-out version of Dracula and vampires that's been done too many times. It's completely new, including the reasons for Dracula's vampire condition. I honestly can't understand the negative reviews. I thought it was great and I'll be reading the Frankenstein next.

No, no. No,no. First off, I admit I am not a Dracula fan. Except for Christopher Lee.

However, I did not understand this book at all. It starts off as a re-imagining of Dracula starring Bela Lugosi and descends into a love story where Dracula is a vigilante vampire.

I do not get whatever the hell this was. I would rather re-read Bram Stoker.

This is a re-envisioning of the classic Dracula tale brought into modern Atlanta, Georgia. Most of the characters have the same names as the original although the concept of how Dracula became a vampire and his powers differ. Nothing overly spectacular, but not a bad read at all.
