This second volume does not disappoint and in my opinion surpasses the first volume! In this story, we follow the curse-breaker Saeyama, and Kanta Yamazaki, the former’s assistant as they enter a deadly game of wits with a very macabre and creepy woman named Yami Akeno.

I will say this volume is particularly triggering as there are explicit examples of self-harm on the page (as well as murder) so please be aware of this going in.

Despite this series being very text-heavy, it is a gripping and thrilling story as the two curse-breakers try to uncover the reason behind Akeno’s “game”. I found myself completely immersed in this story and the conclusion was wonderfully satisfying…and creepy! *shivers*

I think it’s best if you go into this with little or no idea of the contents and just feast on the story inside! :)

Having solved the curse killing case at the high school he now seems to work at, Saeyama… is immediately pulled into another curse killing case. Yes, a young woman with an itch to scratch enters the scene and it’s going to be weirdo-a-weirdo combat one more time.

How much do I love this series? A lot; like, a lot a lot. I was worried that the second volume would let me down and, while not quite as good as the wall-to-wall lunacy of the first one, it thankfully did not. It’s just as dumb and self-serious as before.

Everything about this is total hooey, obviously, but once again the mangaka plays this straight as an arrow. It does get a little more levity out of a new character, an expert on corpses who can’t seem to remember living people, but the plot? Nope, deadly earnest.

It’s so hard to tell if this is intentionally silly or not at this point, but I come down on the side of not since we still get omake at the back to lighten the mood. Not that the main story isn’t goofball enough, but somebody clearly thinks they’re making great art. And they are, just not, I suspect, the way they think they are.

This time around the curse is wrapped up in the smug delusions of a petty person and I do love watching Saeyama’s all-knowing prick act every single time. He’s not just smarter than the room, he’s smarter than the neighborhood, and you can tell he’s revelling in every chance to show it.

The kid with the actual emotions who has the life-expectancy lowering tendency to see the good in everybody is back and he makes a great sidekick to give Saeyama somebody to mock/bounce off and his obvious crush on the new character is very funny. Their chemistry is fantastic and they lift a lot of the book just by being there.

Needless to say, the plot goes through all sorts of contortions straight through to the end and there’s some really gooey body horror so mind your step there. It all culminates in some very silly pathos and a very thankless resolution that leaves at least one person having to hold their tongue.

The police have a secret curse division so I am not sure how any of this should strike you as believable in any way, shape, or form. At least Death Note made the effort - this one just snubs its nose and says ‘pretty sure this is fine’ when they decide to cause a nationwide panic (I love the panels of people in the street living very, very normal lives even while discussing mystical killings caused by spirits).

Of course, that’s why I like this series so much - it has no qualms about anything and if it makes the story better in the author’s eyes then, by curse god, they’re gonna do it.

And it still keeps to its logic roots when the investigation counts, proving that maybe you can have it both ways, just not if you don’t want me cackling at your book (Saeyama’s line delivery is priceless - he has great timing that all of us would kill for in real life).

I do wish this had the very tight location of the first book, which kept things to a single location for the most part. This one ranges a bit further afield and combined with our villain not being quite as interesting (though still mighty weird, and arguably a victim of her own nature) it does settle for my opinion of ‘great’ rather than ‘amazing’.

4 stars - you can’t be any more ridiculous than this series when it comes to gods and death games and shenanigans. It’s an absolute hoot to read and if a series of gruesome murders perpetrated by petulant children is wrong, I really don’t want to be right.

Preferred the first one. Didn’t like the contractor as much this time around so it probably made it less enjoyable for me, i felt as if the story didn’t make any real progress here. Disappointed, i wish they had focused more on the curse breakers and the whole power system.

I liked volume 2 even more than volume 1...even though on the first page I was like, "Wow! I love this character! I hope we get to see lots more of her!" and on the second page she was dead. lol

In volume 1 the killer was a teenage boy who cursed his victims through the use of technology, namely their cell phones. In volume 2 the killer is a young woman who uses a completely different tactic to kill that I couldn't have guessed.

I was a lot more interested in the killer this time around. I mean, the psychopath angle was pretty cool before, but it's been done. I liked that the killer was a woman this time. Her character art was really interesting and I liked her backstory, especially how she ran an online shop for her creepy, handmade jewelry featuring eyeballs and gothic items. I was also glad to have been wrong in my guess that the whole series would take place in the high school, even though the Cursebreaker's high school assistant stays on for the long haul; this volume takes place at the police headquarters instead.

I love this series! I'm so sad I only have one more book for now.

THE ART, HELLOOOO? superior artwork, superior storyline, superior spook-level.

TBH what manga ISN'T fun when there are two characters trying to outsmart each other but the main character is always the big, fat, 7 steps ahead, one?

I love this series sm i missed manga <3

Content warnings: Self-harm, gore, murder

Now that Volume 1 introduced this strange world of curse killers and curse gods, Volume 2 focuses on a specific killer to stop, while introducing a network of antagonists: Cursed Blood.

I really liked the villain here, Yami Akeno. The journey we go on with her descent into villainy really worked for me. Her motives are quite clear, her execution (both metaphorical and literal) are quite chilling. But what really keeps me invested is how Curse Breaker Saeyama keeps both his colleagues and the villain on their toes, keeping his hand close. There’s not enough established yet to have the reader figure out what’s truly at play, but it’s a fun ride and I’ll definitely keep reading.

Another volume I really liked! Nagumo is such a cutie. I loved Yami's design and the jewelry we got to see from her. I just know that if I saw her shop in person, I'd buy so much from her. I really love seeing Saeyama's mind work, and I love seeing Kanta's character development and look forward to seeing so much more from both of them!

I enjoyed the first vol more. Either way, Saeyama-san is certainly an interesting character. I hope we find out more about his background and past in the future.

I was already a fan of this series after reading the first volume! This one is just as good as the first, with more and more info about the mysterious group of curse dealers being revealed. This is a great series for those who like Conan, Death Note, those type of stories. Volume three can’t come soon enough, especially with that cliffhanger ending.

The second volume of Can’t Stop Cursing You didn’t do much to get me more invested in this series. It feels very much like the first volume all over again just with a different villain.

There’s a new curse god contractor named Akeno who is cursing people, but the difference is that this time around she turns herself in right away. The reason for this is because she wants to play a game where Saeyama has a day to track down the five people that she cursed. If he wins she’ll give him information on the Cursed Blood group that Mikiya mentioned, but if he loses he has to give her info on the Curse-Breakers. Saeyama—being the confident man he is—agrees to her game.

There was a bigger sense of urgency this time around since Saeyama had to find the victims in order to save them instead of just tracking down the culprit. While this small deviance from the first volume's plot did hook me at the beginning, I grew bored halfway through. And I can see myself growing bored with this series soon if each volume will just be some variation of essentially the same plot. I want to be introduced to the main baddie already! I’m tired of these one-shot villains.

I should stress that I didn’t hate this volume. While I was bored for a bit my interest grew again near the end. The one part of this series that the writer consistently does a good job on is making their antagonists properly unhinged. Akeno definitely had some twisted motivations, which made for a compelling character that I enjoyed psychoanalyzing.

While Akeno was a great antagonist, our two protagonists left a lot to be desired. I was looking forward to the partnership between Kanta and Saeyama, but they only had one meaningful interaction and everything before and after that was forgetful.

On top of that, they both lacked depth. Kanta surprisingly didn’t seem that distressed that his best friend turned out to be a murderer. It would’ve added some flavor to the story if Kanta had a bigger internal conflict in regards to what happened to Mikiya. As it is, he seems way too nonchalant that his friend killed himself.

Then there’s Saeyama. Listen, I love characters who are super smart and are always one step ahead of everyone else. That seems to be Saeyama’s whole personality though. He’s there to lurk in the background and only pops into the conversation to show off the fact that he already knows what’s going on. Can we please give this man more of a personality? There’s so much that can be done with him.

Other characters were introduced too, but no one memorable enough to mention. In fact, this whole volume wasn’t that memorable. Like I’ve said, it wasn’t terrible but as a follow up to the first volume it was weak. I probably wouldn’t continue this series past this installment if I hadn’t already purchased the third volume. Instead of progressing the story and adding depth to their world, it’s like the mangaka decided to play it safe and just slightly alter the plot of the first volume. I hope volume three breaks this stagnation.

TW/CW:body horror, self-harm, blood & gore, strong language, bullying , death

“Kindness? What a silly idea. The kinder you are, the more people impose on you. The more they exploit you.”

There’s a brief 4-month time skip after the first volume. I love how everything seamlessly ties towards the ending. In contrast to the first, we get to personally know the contractor. It's entertaining to see two characters outwit one another. What I noticed about this series is that there is always a gradual build-up, and a shocking disclosure should be anticipated. This way, the story will flow naturally.

I enjoy the dark humour and interesting characters. The art style is also fantastic!! However, I prefer the first volume because the contractor in here is quite off-putting to me. THE FIRST VOLUME WAS JUST SPECTACULAR, ngl!!! Nevertheless, I’m interested in learning more about the cursed god contractors and the "crime syndicate." While it draws similarities to Death Note, Sherlock Holmes, and a tad of Jujutsu Kaisen, this manga is unique in its own right. The concept is fresh and exciting. It incorporates the best elements of everything I just mentioned. Gotta love horror mysteries!! Much recommended. Now I regret not getting the third volume.

August 2023. YA supernatural mystery manga series, saw it when at the library and the name and cover caught my eye. Reading the description sold me and I grabbed all 3 volumes.
*side note, if anyone has mystery manga you like please recommend it!

Really loved this series! Kind of like Death Note with the supernatural mystery based on a contract with a demon/curse god, but without the misogyny and with a new mystery in each volume.

Each volume is a different set of curse-based murders and the main character is trying to solve how each curse works and who the culprit is, and try to stop them from killing more people. I’ve finished the first two of four volumes so much and really enjoying it.

E.g., how the curse is spread, how quickly it kills, what triggers the curse, how/if it can be lifted is different in each case because the culprit made a pact with different motivations and with a different curse god.

It’s got some humor in the character dynamics but isn’t a comedy, a good balance of the dry deadpan lead in a complicated situation with psychopaths.

I requested volume 4 from the library so I hope they get it soon! Definitely recommend for any fans of Death Note, Persona, or other supernatural mystery manga.

The new villain or curse god, or whatever they're called had an interesting motive this time. Unlike the "princely" Mikiya, this time we're introduced to a female antagonist and her motive is quite interesting this time around. She targets people who are often helping others and get "thank yous" and grattitudes from the people they help out.

I did find this volume more exciting than the last, and hopefully my excitement continues as I go on to finish this series.

After the first book I really thought this would be a really good death note copy. But now. While I can definitely draw parallels, the second book really struck out more on its own. I am really excited for the rest of the series.

I liked how this book and the next were told way more from the POV of the curse breakers with the villain being secondary. Definitely changes the tone in a good way.

This one definitely was a strong follow up to the break out first manga on this new series. Sort of in the same vein as a sherlock holmes novel, but with more gore. It's a mystery you can really follow, and like a holmes story, the story is set up to make you feel like you're coming to the conclusion of the book organically, while still remaining a surprise.

In recent years, I have leaned that I don’t believe in the death penalty. Instead, make those villains experience untold sufferings. Make them repent and don’t release them from that suffering because death is a quick and easy relief for the villain.

That being said, I understand that death might make it easier to ensure these monsters can’t curse anyone else…. So, I get it.

Second book in this series really solidifies it will be a great one. The way the main character hides his thinking and solves issues never fails to impress and intrigue me and it is overall the type of series that will always please me to read.

A good story but it felt isolated and didn't make any real progress in the storyline. Based on the ending, I'm assuming the next couple of volumes will give us more police politics and information on the cursed blood.

better that the first volume. Maybe a 4.25. The reasons for the curses are honestly very childish. I’m more enjoying the dynamic with the curse breaker, his assistant and the police. Will continue reading.

Honestly I’m in love with the art style and that’s really about it. Everything just doesn’t flow well for me and it’s just to fast to make me warm up to our characters. I’ll finish it because I own it but I don’t see it getting much better from here.
