W.L. Ripley takes the reader on a ride inside the glitzy, sideways world of Las Vegas to deliver a first-rate caper novel! A mysterious attaché case is stolen during a convenience store robbery. Unfortunately, for the robbers the attaché belongs to Red Cavanaugh, a vicious Las Vegas crime boss who wants them dead. Now Cavanaugh demands Las Vegas security man Conner McBride locate the case and deliver up the robbers. McBride who is in arrears for gambling debts doesn’t want to help Cavanaugh exterminate the robbers so he gambles that he can scam Cavanaugh. McBride enlists a uniquely skilled operative, Trey Easton, and a bright enterprising showgirl named Aubrey Reynolds, to assist him as he dodges town bosses, federal agents and a killer from his past. It’s McBride and Easton versus all the worst elements of Sin City. If McBride fails, a Central American economy will falter and die and so will McBride…
Another great book featuring a new character from Ripley.
McBride is an ex-marine who runs a security agency. Vegas Mobster Red Cavanaugh hires him to find a case, but doesn't tell him what's in it. A homicidal ex marine and a death squad leader from Nicaragua want the case too. Good thing McBride has a sidekick who likes danger.
Who is Conner McBride? He's a former military policeman, has a Criminal Justice degree from a local junior college, and now owns McBride Securities which provides security work for a variety of small businesses.
While mulling how he's going to pay his creditor, no other than Las Vegas crime boss, Red Cavanaugh, walks into his office to hire him. The job? Track down two thieves who stole a briefcase from him. Cavanaugh wants them as well as the attache case they stole.
Follow McBride and his cohorts as they attempt to pay his debt to Cavanagh amidst Cavanagh's cronies interfering with McBride's investigation. He was warned that his failure affects a Central American country as well as his life. This intriguing story is full of surprises and hard to put down.
It had more twists than Lombard St in San Francisco. This was a trust no one story. Light on character descriptions, but full of background info. Ridley has a good story believe it or not!
Well where do I start? The story is about a small time security Guy that has some great people around him. Then it goes some more and he gets the girl also.
Double Down was a very enjoyable read. The plot had many twists and turns. The characters were well developed. I enjoyed Mr. Ripley's story telling. A good book.
