Phyllis Krystal was born in London, England in 1914. She graduated from Bishop Otter College in Chichester and taught at the high school level for three years before moving to the United States. There, she married Sidney Krystal, a prominent Los Angeles attorney. They had two daughters, one of whom gave them a granddaughter and a grandson. Mrs. Krystal was a widow from 1993 until her death in 2016. In 2004, at the age of 91, she moved to Munich,Germany and at the age of 95 moved again to Zurich in Switzerland.

In the late 1950s, Mrs. Krystal and a close friend embarked on an experiment to make regular contact with an inner source of wisdom, which they eventually called the Hi C for Higher Consciousness. Since then, by consulting the Hi C, a visualization method involving the use of symbols has evolved. These techniques can be used to help those who wish to release from attachment to - or reliance on - any outer security or control, thereby freeing the individual to seek help and guidance from the Hi C rather then from these outer sources.

For more than 25 years, Mrs. Krystal has given seminars in numerous countries - primarily in Europe - to share the method. In addition she has offered individual sessions to outline a program for achieving more personal freedom.

As word of this method spread, Mrs. Krystal received numerous requests to put it down in writing so the techniques could continue to help others, if and when she is no longer available.

I made so many notes while reading this book. Some of the many gems that either strongly resonated with me or just gave me some helpful insights:

“Very often a dream will occur at the perfect time to give further insights. Included in the dream will be a person who exhibits one of the dreamers faults, but in an exaggerated form which makes it easier to recognize.”

”There is strong tendency in most people to relax and take life essy if things go too smoothly for them. This leads to stagnation and prevents growth.”

”...I must stress that it is important to remember that the symbols themselves are not magic wands but tools which must be used daily, in a disciplined fashion, to impress the subconscious mind with the need for new patterns of thought, feeling and behaviour.”

A great self help resource. I recommend for adults, 22 and above. The book clarifies many doubts, gives several techniques to train the mind but it does require time to understand. I recommend reading it once and start implementing some of the strategies once you have more time on hand like summer months.

This book was a very good read. I really connected with it, and I can't wait to put it into practice.
I wish I'd taken notes throughout, though.

To do the exercises you have to be quite devoted to repeating them very regularly, even daily, so that they work or "stay working". What is also a bit off-putting for me is the style of the language, which seems too formal and even dated at times.

This one was a little strange. It had been given to me as a gift, so I gave it a good try, but the essence was a bit too mystical for my prosaic personality to fathom completely.
