One of these days the assumptions will stop (hopefully), but they're still making positive strides. Another milestone as a couple was met. How sweet. *smile*
Rating 3.25, Oh my gosh! Their relationship is so cute!
Aww yay! They're starting to feel more comfortable and less formal and anxious with each other. In this volume, we see Irie start to feel a hint of jealousy when Tanaka speaks to her male colleague. They both attempt to be more casual and less formal with each other.
But that ending, though!!! So cute, and it made me feel happy for the couple and really root for them.
The downside to this volume is that I’m starting to suspect that we are dealing with not just shy characters - but rather boring ones. I know: “How could you only realize that seven volumes in???” Well, dear reader, I had hope that there were unshed layers still to come. As it is - there’s just a blandness to the main relationship that never quite gets shaken away. And that makes me sad.
The painful shyness is painful to read sometimes. It’s really frustrating when characters have a sense of insecurity that has no basis. I know that’s realistic, but it doesn’t make it fun to read about. Who cares if your boyfriend‘s friends are trying to contact him at a festival? He doesn’t have to go alone, he can take you and introduce you to his friends. How awkward is it to suddenly start telling tongue twisters or unrelated funny stories out of the blue?
I’m somewhere between 3 and 4 stars on this one. I still love the premise and the stories and the characters. I took a break from the series for the work week and it’s possible that affected my experience. This volume was the first to contain a part that made me squirm with embarrassment for a character. I’m super empathic, so that can happen to me relatively easily, and while it’s a sign I’m truly connected to character and story, it’s also about as uncomfortable for me as it is for the character living the moment, rather than being humorous or whatever the author might be going for. It’s a fine line, and I don’t necessarily think it’s a problem with the writing or story. It’s more a problem (not really-quirk, maybe) of mine. Anyway, up until this point in the story nothing either of the main characters did or said to one another took me to that level of discomfort, but last night I walked away from a scene just to spare myself the discomfort…and I was treating myself to the story as an end of week reward, so it was a bit of a letdown. Not that I had any doubt things would be fine. These two people are so careful of everything, including one another. Anyway, I finished it this morning and once past the one scene I was good again. Except I did find myself wondering when their confidence in themselves, each other, and their relationship will grow enough to free them both from some of the overwhelming anxiety around every small interaction. And yes, I’m aware that’s part of what I’ve been enjoying-the super slow pace and detailed examination of every micro interaction…it reminds me of myself at a younger age and even more strongly of my best friend at a younger age. I think it’s probably the pause in reading that allowed me to get a bit out of sync with the story.
... well now, that would be telling, wouldn't it? (Thanks much to Leo McKern, the best Number 02, thee ONLY Number 02!)... so yeah, phew, what a build up! I just love these two. He is such a laid-back & nice guy, & she's so thoughtful & cute, in a mousy sort of way. Think "The librarian factor"... mm hmm, yeah it's like that. They make such a wonderful couple. This is such a cute, fun, relaxing story. I'm so glad that I'm along for the ride.
this vol was nerve-wreacking. It also made me want to throw things to some people. I also admit that there are times when Nobuko's insecurities and overthinking make me want to shake some sense into her.
However, I like how the story portrays how she slowly and steadily finds the courage to face her insecurities and be more forward with her thoughts and actions.
I can't lie, its like I enjoy it but then I start getting a lull in the middle. Most of the characters are boring and omg the cringey moments are sending me! I just need them to be braver and stop tip toeing around each other! they are practically grown! Other than that, its okay. I'm just glad after 7 volumes, we finally get a kiss!

I’m squealing so hard. This was so incredibly cute. I take it back, this was my favorite volume so far. The way they’re learning to be more casual and comfortable with each other, when Hiroki told Nobuko that he was her ally, him learning to read her emotions and cues, and finally that sweet kiss. Yes, I loved it too much. I’m rooting for these side character’s love story all the way!
Just so cute!!!!! How she is trying to be someone he would want to be around more but the fact is he like her for her. The school festival was so cute how she wanted him to be with his friends but he wanted to be with her. They finally kissed!!!!!! I can't wait to read more ....
I love that they communicate and fix misunderstandings that won’t be dragging on too long. I like that he reassures her and tells her it’s okay to think or feel in certain ways.
We finally reached the kiss! ( ^ω^ ) His school festival looked cool, he showed her around campus but it might have been fun for her to meet his friends too. It was nice seeing them continuing to talk thru their issues instead of leaving things as misunderstandings
