Outwitting Multiple Sclerosis: How I Healed My Brain By Changing My Mind

Rate this book
In 1989, Bill Worth was living in paradise, on Maui. What he did not know, however, was that he was in danger of dying in paradise, for he had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, a debilitating, incurable disease of the brain and nervous system. When his neurologist told him he had MS, he looked the doctor in the eye and said, "Doc, you say I have MS . . . what I say is that MS does not have me!" With that, the writer/editor embarked on a three-decade journey of treating the intractable disease with the power of his mind, a better diet, more exercise, and the use of an "off-label" alternative drug. He refused the traditional drugs his neurologist recommended, determined to meet the disease on his own terms. His journey included writing and publishing two metaphysical novels on Amazon and becoming a Unity minister. In that career, he discovered the power of forgiveness, which aided him in his unique treatment of MS. This book explores that discovery, which required him to seek self-forgiveness because of years of failed relationships. Bill has spent all of his adult life writing. His first career was in journalism in daily and weekly newspapers, where he was a reporter, an editor, and a publisher. His second career was as a Unity minister, in four churches ranging from Florida to Washington state. A third career included writing the novels "House of the A Metaphysical Novel of Maui," and "The Hidden Life of Jesus A Memoir," both of which are available on Amazon in soft-cover and Kindle versions. He holds two degrees in journalism from Ohio State University and was ordained a Unity minister in 1996. Once again, he and his wife, Nancy, are living on Maui, where he edits manuscripts for a mainland book publisher. Of this book, he says, "'Outwitting Multiple Sclerosis' is simply my story about living with a stubborn disease. And it’s about my healing of MS, which is a lot different from curing MS. Keep that in mind as you read. When I use the word 'heal' or 'healing,' do not translate that as 'cure' or 'curing.' I still have multiple sclerosis -- but it still does not have me.
