Meet Venus Gilroy: twenty-five, carefree, irresistible, and with a nasty habit of getting hitched to the wrong guy. Husband No 1 would have been a winner, if it hadn't been for the forgery and embezzlement charges. As for husband No 2: well. . .meeting a husband in a strip bar could never end well.
But now Venus has met the potential No 3, and he's the real deal. Isn't he? Surely sexy, rugged, principled Tremaynne is finally the right one for Venus? With her crazy family only to keen to weigh in with advice, it's time for Venus to learn for herself -- how you know that Mr. Right won't turn into Mr. Wrong.
This book was beyond stupid. Girl is like obsessed with getting married because she has major daddy issues. Her dad left her and her mother when she was a kid when he told them he was gay. He's been with his partner for like 20 years now and her mother went a little nutty. She saw her dad pretty often, but I think the whole thing still fucked her up. This book was mainly about her third marriage by the time she was like 25 or something. The girl was not responsible at all and couldn't hold down a job and just did whatever the guy she was into now was doing and that totally fucked her up as well. But of course, when ever she got into trouble, Daddy bailed her out, which I hate people like that. And it happened all the time! Mainly this book took place after her third marriage and like she and her new loser husband went to spend the weekend at some hotel with her dad and his partner and some environmental something or other occurred and it was her new husbands fault. So of course, it ends bad. What a waste!
The main character is a shallow girl with no ambition whatsoever. She does not regard the importance of an education and does not look very far ahead in life. Her life goal is probably to find a life partner. However she does not seem to give very much thought as to what kind of man she marries to and jumps into every single marriage based on romantic feelings or sexual satisfaction. Surely you would have thought that she would have learnt by the third time!! Although I sympathise with the mum, she appears to be very much stuck in the past and probably blaming everyone including her ex-husband for her predicament. Not much content. I didn't like the ending at all. The dads on the other hand seem to have everything working well for them. I did wish that maybe the characters of both her and her mum would have been painted in a slightly more positive light and less dumb-witted.
So cute I love that there’s finally a silly fluffy romance book for sex-crazed maniacs. I read this between exams during a roadtrip and it somehow alleviated all the stress from my shoulders like a ridiculous voluptuous cloud. I don’t care what anyone says about this book it’s representation for the vapid and impulsive and strange people of this earth!! There’s something about the licentiousness of the title and the cartoonishly silly cover that immediately fascinated me and it is the best three dollar purchase I have ever made. I love that instead of attempting to satirise the romantic comedy genre with airs of superiority or pretension, there is a self-aware absurdity that romcomifies the taboo (Venus is a sex worker, hooks up with a narcissistic rock chick and has two dads estranged from her manic depressive mother) with complete sincerity. My Three Husbands doesn’t need any more than three stars and never asked for it, it’s not austere or eloquent, but there is a specific type of relaxed giggly atmosphere that you could only otherwise achieve with a joint.
Review - I did like the exploration of sex and gender issues through Venus's 'dads' and for me that pulled the book up a few notches. The central character, Venus, was a complete wimp and failed to get involved in any of the action. I was intrigued by Swan Adamson's My Three Husbands although I did feel it was a letdown. The title suggests it's about three husbands, but in actual fact it's about her third marriage, and the first two husbands merely get a page each. The title is misleading, but the story in itself is just absurd. Although 'being green' is a current concern across the world, this novel failed to really explore the issue, merely focusing on the more radical aspects.

I really loved this book. The main character has such a crazy life and she is just really looking for true love. Naturally enough she finds it in the last place she ever suspected. There is a fair bit of language in this book but its a good read, nice pace and with an unexpected happy ending. Its the first book in this series.
Talk about being confused in life and thinking that marriage to the first, second, third man who meets your fantasy .... and you've got the story of Venus ! Best part of the entire book were her the story, characters and relationships of her two lesbian fathers! Gives you some faith in love and relationship - which the book otherwised mangled !!
The title caught my eye and the book jacket sounded great but unfortunately the inside didn't not live up to what I was expecting and wanting out of the book. I didn't finish it. I use to make myself finish regardless but life is short and too many good books are available.
