They waited, waited for the old knowledge to fade away into the mists of myth. Imprisoned; banished, separated they waited as the population grew to numbers that could sustain their appetites. Humanity developed habits that made them fat; slow and ripe, memories of the old ways forgotten. They waited for a re-birth of the time of legend for the time when their kind ruled and man was naught but the fodder upon which they fed. They waited for the time when the old gods die and the new were anxious to take their place. They waited for today. A young man resisted sweet words of compulsion forsaking money and unlimited power to be with the woman he loves. It was a condemning of his self to the focus of a demon once banished. A demon hell bent upon the destruction of humanity and all that pertains to it, enslaving an entire species to its will, he knows that he can do what no other has. In Mesopotamia he was accused of having a god complex when already he has done what no god would never do. God complex hell, he was god and the earth will rue the day. This is the beginning of the Zombie Rush Saga by Joseph Hansen aka HJ Harry
Born in Minneapolis and living in western Minnesota H.J. Harry who also writes under his real name of Joseph Hansen has been writing for over thirty five years and strives to give you stories you will remember and enjoy from front to back. Be warned though, he does enjoy delving into the unknown with his own special flare and a few of his novels carry strong language. Some of his novels have no swearing at all so be sure to check if that sort of thing offends you. Thanks for reading and be sure to check for the Joseph Hansen links. http://hyperurl.co/zg874p
This book is a refreshing, unique take on the zombie apocalypse sub-genre. Full of twists, great characters (some of who you just love to hate) and action packed scenes where the main characters are often left fighting for their lives in arduous circumstances. Well executed, I really enjoyed this dark, gritty horror novel. It kept me engaged and turning the pages. Definitely worth reading!
When I saw the cover art (the old Ford truck) and the title, Splinter, I thought this horror story by H.J. Harry was going to be a "Christine" type thing. But instead, I was drawn along as a malevolent entity trapped inside a ancient ceramic blade is set lose and begins a rampage of death and destruction; Hell bent (literally) on total annihilation of the current human condition. The entity wants to turn us all into slaves. As I read the first few chapters, this story took a wild twist and became a battle between good and evil. Very cool plot. I enjoyed the story and am awaiting the sequel with great anticipation.
The early portion is definitely is reminiscent of a King novel however Mr Harry has a unique perspective on demons. The history of the demons is at least as entertaining as the main story arc. Our heroes at times fall a little flat for me but Flowers more than makes up for that. This is a class A bad guy and I am looking forward to the future chapters of this story. The location is a great departure from the norm. It seems like every other story is in New York or LA with the clichéd southern ghost story thrown in for "spice." Minnesota is a new one and it works very well. Hopefully small town Minnesota will be the successor to backwoods Maine.
*received this book for free* I stumbled across this author by accident, but I am so glad that I did! Awesome storyteller! Pulled me into the story from the very first page and held me captive to the very last page! I actually read Zombie Rush before this which is how I discovered this author. I can't wait to dive into Zombie Rush 2 which I will be starting soon. Hoping to learn more about the original characters that were in Splinter somewhere down the road. A different take on the zombie apocalypse and I enjoyed every word. I fully recommend this author to others!!
I had the joy to beta read Splinter and then I purchased a copy. This books looks at evil and the way it can affect people, and how others resist it through strength and love. This is a supernatural thriller that will stay with you long after you finish it.
Interesting read, not a zombie apocalypse fan though. Reminded me of Stephen King and some of his writing. Should be interesting to see what happens in the next book
Excellent new take on the ZA or "other" apocalypse. Highly recommended if this genre is a favorite of yours. Anxiously anticipating the next in the series.
