Really disappointing. Characters are more obnoxious than I remember and the plot is getting more convoluted. Sub par.

So good to see Chica more!! I love her.

I completely forgot about Yugo and Yuma’s backstory! So it was like reading it for the first time again. I feel like it adds so really good perspective to the story.

Im kinda still wary of Jin, Idk why… I love that last part where he called backup in to help protect Yuma but idk, something about him… Maybe he hasn’t gotten enough development for my taste…

Awwww yeah I’m loving the power system and character dynamics so far. Love the main trio, just waiting for my boy Osamu to get a dope power up or sumn so he’s not weak as hell😭 The comedy’s also really good when it happens.

Need to buy more volumes of this fs😤

This one kind of won me over with the background stuff and the inclusion of a capybara.

Trop trop trop bon. Cette série va rapidement devenir l'une de mes favorites, chaque tome est plus puissant que le précédent... beaucoup de révélations dans ce tome. J'ai hâte de lire la suite !!

It's so interesting that one of the main characters is the weakest.

This is my favourite series I've given away! Which is to say, I like it but not enough to keep it on my shelves when it comes down to available space. The main issue, as far as reviews go, is I've read most of it before signing up with Goodreads, and unfortunately it's such a slow burn that I can't fairly review individual volumes JUST from (my increasingly poor) memory.

I managed to relocate (that is, find used) this volume and three others. The three others are, conveniently, where I left off when trying to buy the series new, but this one is early enough on that a lot of the major plot points haven't happened yet, but some of the big reveals have already happened, such as and ...

This volume covers Kuga (Yuma) and Amatori (Chika) teaming up with Mikumo (Osamu), at Jin's recommendation, only somewhat because Kuga is , and that helps keep him safe from Border HQ bringing down the hammer, as it were.

I'd rather not just summarise the series—again, because it's such a slow burn with a high focus on world-building and character relationships over action—so I'll just note that I love the quality and consistency of the art, the character designs, and the attention to details like changes in their uniforms (which Ashihara notes in the chapter break art pin-ups as trivia). It feels a lot like a science fiction story I might have written myself... if I had the patience and memory to deal with HUNDREDS* of recurring characters AND keep their designs straight and so on. Guess that's why mangaka have editors and assistants!

*"That's a stupid lie." OKAY FINE but there are a LOT OF THEM

Recommended for people who like their sci-fi at a leisurely pace! Not recommended if you hate that Naruto and One Piece are LITERALLY A HUNDRED VOLUMES (though I assume they must have a faster pace than World Trigger, since they seem to be more popular).

This series is getting better, I can confidently say that now. A goal has been introduced, the conflict between the Border factions has intensified, and more fun characters have been introduced which heightens the squad interactions. There are two problems hat have with the series so far though, and both are completely subjective: the main character, Mikumo, isn't interesting and the art style/ work is bland. With the former, he's only interesting when he's interacting with others but when he's alone he's pretty average. I would be interested to see how he grows, but his character is simply uninteresting. In terms of the art style, maybe I'm biased because I'm used to art from series like Magi the Labyrinth of Magic, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, and My Hero Academia, but in terms of art this series is easily one of the weakest. The character designs aren't bad, but they lack emotion most of the time. The expressions the characters make are pretty standard as well and don't add anything to the scene, which is disappointing considering expressiveness is what makes manga so much fun to read.

Am I going to continue the series? I'm honestly not sure. I'm interested to see where it goes, but my library system only has the first 3 volumes, so I'd have to buy the rest. I'll have to think about it for now, but I am glad that I pushed through to see where the series is going. Even if I don't continue with the series, I still recommend picking this up. It's fun, light, and a good sci-fi shounen series if that's what you're looking for.

Time for a background info dump!
1. We get a look-see at the command hierarchy and political factions within Border. (And Jin gets to be really cool)
2. We get a rundown of the soldier ranking system of Border and how it works.
3. We find out Yuma's goal and tragic backstory. (Including his awesome side effect)

Now it's time to form a team and join the army! We'll work our way up from the bottom and get promoted to go on missions to the Neighborhood! ...except the guys in charge still don't like having a Neighbor join Border, especially one with a black trigger, so we're in for some interdepartmental squabbling.

Needless to say, we get introduced to a bunch of new characters. Hope you're taking notes.

Catch a lot of revelations. You'll also learn a lot about Boarders and Yuma's life. It's action-packed too. The story is very interesting. Just like in Anime. There are also many upcoming events to look forward to. It's really exciting to read. In Manga, it's very informative. The things you missed in the Anime adaptation, you'll understand better if you read it in Manga. Go, Jin! Protect Tamakoma 2 squad! Yay! Highly recommended, of course!

Enter Full-Metal Alchemist, Naruto, and Shaman King vibes. This manga literally takes influence from every anime and manga I’ve come across. This is not a bad thing! Honestly this manga honors so many tropes and I can’t stop
Reading it. 😂

Yuma, Mikumo, and Amatori have joined the Tamakoma branch of Border, and their hope is to rise to the level of S-Rank so that they can be chosen for a mission to the Neighbor home world. We learn that Yuma, as well as Jin, possess Black Triggers, the strongest of all triggers, and Border wants to take Yuma's trigger from him. But, Black triggers are made when someone sacrifices their life for you, so transferring of Black Triggers is nearly impossible. Yuma and Jin both tell the story of who sacrificed for their black triggers: for Jin, it was his mentor

World Trigger continues to surprise and impress: a great blend of sci fi, battles, interesting characters, and twisty turning politics. The art is solid and I really appreciate all the background info/reminders put into the drawings and dialogue so readers don't get lost. Honestly, every chapters makes me want to rush right into the next to see what is going to happen next.

Story: Mikumo, Chika, and Yuma are at an impass but they can't stand still. Orders are given to Jin to apprehend the black trigger owned by Yuma but he's playing his own game, thanks to his precog ability. He'll make an offer to the trio that they can't refuse - but in doing so, he'll upset the balance of power in the border agencies. Certain parties have a vested interested in making sure Yuma's black trigger doesn't end up at Tamakoma.

We get a lot more information about Yuma, the neighbor, in this volume. I have to say, I'm impressed that it is Jin, not Yuma, who will end up having the mysteries and the secrets. But what stands apart for me is the great cast of characters - with the trio of Chika, Yuma, and Mikumo but also all the people in the different border squads. Instead of a lot of stupidity, the author is willing to give his characters intelligence and logic in their actions. So it isn't about an idiot kid flying off the handle and getting lucky - like so many titles of this type. It's really about the team and their diverse talents.

The art is solid and battle scenes are as well rendered as emotive ones. This volume doesn't have any battles with the neighbors but there is still plenty of action as well as the introspection. And, well, I have to laugh every time I see Yuma's pursed lips.

This is definitely one of my favorite titles Viz has put out this year and I eagerly await each new volume.

~3/5

This is definitely a series that should be read in order. I have not read the previous two volumes, so I jumped in with little knowledge. I think if I’d read the previous ones, I would have more of an idea of how the world works and what the characters’ part in it is.

Saying that, this wasn’t too bad. It had me intrigued.

We get some back story on Kuga, our main character, an alien come to Japan who’s rather secretive about his past. I liked his group of friends, and how they’ve decided to study in order to work into the system, get stronger. They meet a group of high ranking agents who agree to teach them. They’re all rather unique, and I enjoyed the banter and dynamics between them.

Overall, an interesting story and world, and I liked the characters that I met. I would probably have to read the previous books before going forward, though.

Still fun to read, and some of the backstory about the main characters and the organizations have been fleshed out. Plenty of side-characters were introduced, though not much background about them has been provided. As is common in Shonen Jump series, there are plenty of characters so fans can have their own favorites. The whole "leveling up/training" plan has been started.

One thing that I like about this comic is the humor, which isn't over the top, but which is present and amusing. For instance, I enjoyed how two characters introduced themselves by their trope. "I'm the scruffy hottie" and "I'm the impeccably composed beefcake."

Something tells me that World Trigger has appeal to a female audience as well, in part because of the fact there are so many boyband-looking side characters. Surprisingly, the female characters aren't drawn with huge boobs, and aren't particularly likeable. Aside from the cute, glasses-wearing operations officer, the female characters are a cute little girl, arrogant bitch-face fighter girl, and ditsy blonde fighter girl.

Though the series started well, in this volume it feels like it is falling more into tropes, building up what feels like a pointless rivalry in Border. But it does provide a nice lot of additional background and explanation for things, so it was an enjoyable read.

Probably only a 4, I did get bored enough at the beginning to choose sleep over reading. The ending was very exciting though, plus there was plenty of good info and some good lines and action and I enjoyed it a lot.

Great series! You get to see more of the past of the Neighbors, as well as some revelations about certain characters. I also liked seeing each of the kids get a mentor and training to be their own squad.

Oh wow. Did not see that coming. I should've, since I think it's fairly common in Shounen, but I totally didn't see it coming.

LOVED that reveal. Absolutely LOVED it.
