Clockmaker

Rate this book
Clockmaker is quite content making timepieces in his little cottage within the world of Everpath, until a terrible shadow from the forest begins to threaten him. Leaving all that he knows behind, Clockmaker escapes with the Road-Men so he can find a new home, far from the cruel shadow that haunts him. Instead, he discovers that the world is not at all what it seems, and he embarks upon a strange adventure beyond his wildest expectations. Lost in a series of bizarre universes, can poor Clockmaker find his way back to Everpath, or is he doomed to always be hunted by the hungry shadow, running from world to world?

Clockmaker is a lovely fantasy tale full of adventure and charm. You have little clockmaker trying to escape a particularly determined shadow seemingly intent on eating him, and so he ventures out into the world to get away and finds more than he bargained for. There is much world hopping. He visits several different universes, each incredibly unique and with breathtaking vision. There is beauty and the bizarre, but there is also something more beneath that. This isn’t just a story of adventure, but also of growth and change. Clockmaker goes though a lot, things wonderful and terrible, and is confronted with truths and things he does not want to look at, like anybody in this world we live in, and even though he wants to, he does not look away. He comes into his own, discovering who he is and accepting that truth, and becomes stronger for it. I find it very relatable, myself. As to vision, this book is like a cross between Alice in Wonderland and The Hobbit, trippy but charming, and uniquely its own thing. I highly recommend for lovers of fantasy, or anyone looking for something a little different.

The first thing I want to say is, "Wow!"
David has taken me into a landscape—no, it is a dreamscape filled with intriguing people and a myriad of worlds and situations. The protagonist is filled with fear and makes his way through one challenge after another before finally facing what he most dreads.
As I explored this novel, I was most impressed by the Lewis Carroll-like fantasy world presented. Although we did not meet rabbits, mad hatters, or insane Queens, we do meet dozens of people who see their world quite differently from ours.
David has become one of my favorite authors, and if you ever get the chance to meet him, make the time to chat with him face-to-face. It is worth the effort!
I look forward to many more novels by this brilliant mind.

This was an intriguing read. Even though it is exactly as the blurb suggests, "Lost in a series of bizarre universes" it was still interesting and very immersive. Not exactly my cup of tea but definitely worth 4 stars as the book is written superbly and I know other readers will love it. Heavy on the world-building.

Very interesting book, well done with world building and character building/development. I could be wrong but I felt a bit of Wizard of Oz influence. Really glad I went into the candy store and left with a book. Quite enjoyable.

This story is about a humble Clockmaker and his journey through various universes, while on the run from an unknown shadow. I really enjoyed the quirky characters AND THE ENDING 😤 . This book gives me the same feeling as the Hobbit. Overall, it was such an enjoyable story; I highly recommend!!
