This relatable story is followed by questions designed to allow readers to think more deeply about the text and apply it to their own lives. Charming illustrations fill each page as readers explore the colorful world of Hippo, his friends, and the lessons they learn.
Started the Behaviour Matters series with the kiddos today! I am stoked. :D This book did not disappoint. How to own up to the consequences of our own actions and decisions was explained in an uncomplicated way, and hence the tinies weren't confused. The Hippo has a late start to the day and makes some really bad decisions at school. Which gave us a chance to discuss the importance of sleeping on time & not skipping breakfast in the morning rush once again. Since the twins keep bickering over small things all day everyday, we were also glad we discussed how upsetting it can feel to be blamed for someone's mistakes/bad behaviour. All in all, the book definitely served the purpose it was written with.
I have managed to collect 10 books from this series preloved, so hoping that I can get a complete set. Will be happy to supply you with cake in exchange for such lovely books. :D
Hippo Owns Up is a wonderful book for children to explore the importance of honesty and that blaming other children in unfair and unkind. This text could e encourage a discussion about how you can resolve an issue once you have been dishonest!
This cute little read, written for younger elementary school students, is the story of Hippo and his insatiable appetite.
Hippo was having a bad day. He woke up late and missed breakfast. He was so hungry in class that his tummy kept rumbling. Eventually, he went into the kitchen and there, sitting on the counter, was a beautiful, delectable, unsupervised chocolate cake. That’s where the adventure begins.
This relatable tale, cleverly written by Sue Graves, explores the struggle one has with doing the wrong thing and then confessing to it. Graves takes it a step further by having Hippo repair the mistake he made.
This is a surprising story about forgiveness and redemption.
My son really enjoyed this book and the meaning behind it. Hippo eats some chocolate cake, well, all the chocolate cake, but cat takes the fall for his bad choice. At first he doesn't say anything but then finally confesses and does his best to makes things right again.
Part of the wonderful “Behavior Matters” series, Hippo has a dilemma in this story. He missed breakfast and is STARVING 🥺his teacher has a piece of chocolate cake on his desk and hippo can’t resist. When someone else gets blamed will Hippo do the right thing?
Very good book to teach kids to be honest about what they did. Max loves this book because of the airplane, hope he understands too that he needs to be honest no matter what.
