Felting

Rate this book
Felting--or boiling a knit item so it shrinks and the fibers mesh together--yields amazingly durable, beautiful pieces with unusual textures. It's the perfect technique for beginners because many mistakes just disappear during the washing process. With this new entry in the popular Knitting on the Go series, knitters can get in on this increasingly popular technique and make more than 20 stylish projects. An introduction explains all the knitting basics and felting fundamentals, from yarn selection to blocking and finishing the final product, and there's a wide variety of great things to create. Knit a flower clutch bag, baby blanket, pillows, a snake toy, beret, tea cozy, slippers, scarves, multicolored mittens, and more.

I was surprised that this Vogue Knitting Felting book was so kind of boring. The most creative piece is the tea cosy on the cover. I've done a bit of felting, intentional and by accident, and know how transformative that it can be. I won't be creating anything from here but this might be a good reference for any newbies to the felting process.

I had a vendetta against felting for many years, and it was exactly because of books like this one. I've lightened up on my dislike of felting recently but this book did not help. Everything in it is ugly or dated. Seriously, a waste of yarn.

expected much more in the way of patterns. Lots of eye candy, little meat.

Very cute felting patterns, although I'd rather have more pages in a book that's this pricey.
