I like this knitter/author's designs, from the traditional to the wackily innovative. I'm not so keen on her idea of "giving," which I read as feeding the Gimmee Monster. When we "want to be the giver" we're being selfish (a fair exchange would show more respect for the other person), and when we decide what to give someone who can't express a preference...
Infants do appreciate a nice warm sweater, with the opening underneath, or blanket, or maybe both; when you can't move yourself and spend most of the time sleeping your body doesn't warm itself very efficiently. However, in most of the United States, chunky Canadian-style knits get relatively little wear. They are used, and enjoyed...but not necessarily every single year. If people are going to press these things upon small children and dogs, they should pay close attention and help the children and dogs get out of them before they start coughing and itching from overheating.
I bought four books by TJM, new. Two were well worth their price, and two, I thought, would have been overpriced if I'd bought them on a buck-a-bag sale. This was one of the disappointing two, for me.
You, however, might live with a shivering Chihuahua and want a selection of different patterns for dog sweaters, so little Chichi's outfits can match yours. This is the only pattern book I've found that offers that selection. So it's likely to please some readers; I just happen not to be one of them.
