I've been writing stories since I was old enough to put pencil to paper. My mother raised me on books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, Carol Ryrie Brink, Elizabeth George Speare, Marguerite Henry, and Walter Farley. Wilder and Farley are probably contributing factors to my decades-long love affair with horses, particularly Morgans.

Horses comprise a significant part of my life. We didn't live on a farm and my parents didn't like horses, but that didn't stop me. I bought my first horse weeks before my 15th birthday with money earned from working at the family's ice cream parlor. Having passed 50 years old, I still have horses, two of which are Morgans.

In my early teens I started reading romance and fantasy: Danielle Steel, Barbara Cartland, Jude Devereaux, Jayne Anne Krentz, David Eddings, Robin McKinley, R. A. Salvatore, Jack Chalker, Orson Scott Card. Years later, I quit devouring everything the library had to offer and started narrowing my choices. I wrote for the high school newspaper and got a few encouraging nibbles on short stories submitted to magazines.

In college I majored in English, because literature is my "thing." Except, I didn't want to read the musty old stuff written by long dead men; I wanted to write and be read.

Fast forward to now, after 30 years of marriage, two children (one in college and the other serving in the military), I never lost that habit of writing, regardless of how little encouragement--or even active discouragement--I received.

So, now I write romance and paranormal romance. I enjoy writing it and hope you enjoy reading it.

Dana Secrest has a secret. If only she knew what it was.

I truly enjoyed this sensual romance between a photographer and security specialist. Sam Galdicar works for a man who is married to Dana’s best friend. Unfortunately, the guy doesn’t understand the difference between Dom and damage. He goes beyond rough and into the dangerous. Dana would do anything to get her friend away from him, so when her apartment is broken into, she suspects him. Sam has been drawn to Dana for quite a while but has made no moves—he doesn’t mix business with pleasure—but when he finds she’s in danger, he drops his client in favor of helping Dana. Their attraction is explosive. Sam does all he can to protect Dana, but when trouble comes from a place no one could expect, is he able to do what needs to be done?

Good book! I like everything I’ve read by Holly Bargo, and this book only keeps me looking for more. Just the right amount of adult content makes the story even better to read. I recommend it!

When a young photographer is in the wrong place at the wrong time, a handsome and confident security specialist is willing to do anything to protect her.

Dana Secrest, a photographer, and Sam Galdicar, a security specialist don't particularly like each other. Sam is a personal bodyguard and head of security for a controlling and abusive Chicago billionaire, Bradley Vincent, who is married to Dana's best friend Sonya. Dana's dislike comes to a head when she tells Bradley what a selfish asshole he is and basically tells Sonya that if she has any self-respect left to divorce him. Shortly after the confrontation, Dana's apartment is burglarized and Sam offers to take her home to Ohio. During the journey, they find out Dana's life is in danger assuming Bradley is behind it all, but things don't add up and it appears there is more to the story. Who is out to get her and can Sam keep her safe?

The main characters of Sam and Dana are well-developed and captivating which keeps the story interesting. Sam isn't looking for a committed relationship considering he comes from a very dysfunctional and controlling family, and Dana is an independent, 25-year-old virgin from a humble background who hasn't found a man worthy enough to be intimate with.  The attraction slowly builds while their dangerous circumstances take a surprising twist. In addition, there is an engaging back story with Sonya, the abused billionaire's wife, and her bodyguard Gordon, which in my opinion could have gone into more depth or had a separate book altogether.

Overall, this is a fast-paced, suspense-filled romance with an unusual twist at the end.  If you like sensual antagonists and vile protagonists, give this book a try.

Thank you to Ms. Bargo for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

I was intrigued by the blurb of this enemies to lovers romance. Suspense, drama and romance usually make for a great story that you can’t put down. Dana and Sam experienced the above plus some instant heat, but at the same time I felt the story was too busy and confusing at times. I do recommend others read if this is your type of story because it could turn out to be one of your favorites.
