بنیاد دین بودا
دین بودا که در هندوستان پدید آمده بود، از راه چین و کره به ژاپن رسید. مؤسس دین بودا امیرزاده ای بود بنام سیدارتا گوتاما بودا. او در ۲۹ سالگی به تاج و تخت پشت پا زد و ریاضت پیشه کرد و سرانجام پی برد که معرفت دینی را نه با ریاضت کشی و نه با لذت جویی بلکه با مراقبه به شرط حفظ سلامت می توان به دست آورد



گوتاما پس از آن که بنیه جسمانیش را دوباره به دست آورد، در زیر درخت همیشه سبزی نشست و به مراقبه در مثله رنج پرداخت، خاصه رنجی که در بیماری و کهنسالی و مرگ نهفته بود. آنگاه دریافت که همه چیز از چسبیدن کورکورانه به زندگی سرچشمه میگیرد؛ و اگر رنج علتی داشته باشد، با حذف آن علت، رنج از میان میرود. با این کشف یا اشراق، گوتاما بودا (بیدار) شد؛ و درختی که در زیر آن به مراقبه نشسته بود، درخت بُدهی (اشراق) نام گرفت

کتاب جالبی بود به خصوص شاید برای من که اطلاع زیادی از ادیان ژاپن نداشتم و به نظرم میتونه استارتی باشه برای مطالعه بیشتر،البته ضعف اصلی کتاب اینه که منابع تحقیق ذکر نشده(مثل اکثر کتابای نشر مرکز!) ولی در کل برای آشنایی مناسبه ولی قطعا نباید مرجع نهایی ما برای مطالعه باشه.
درباره ی دین شینتو و کامی ها و تعدادی از خدایان این دین توضیح داده شده و همینطور راجع به دین بودایی و تعامل این دو دین در طول تاریخ و وقایع سیاسی که روی روابط این دو دین تاثیر گذاشته.در فصل های آخر مسیحیت هم وارد ژاپن میشه و طرز برخورد بودایی ها و حکومت با مسیحیان هم به نظرم جالب بود.
در کل افق های جدیدی رو به روی من باز کرد و در طول مطالعه کتاب هم لحظات خوشی داشتم.

کتاب موجز و مفیدی بود و به‌نظرم می‌تونه برای مشخص کردن چارچوب مطالعه وسیع‌تر در این راستا بسیار مناسب باشه.
اگه به مطالعه ادیان شرقی علاقه‌مند هستید، گزینه‌ی خوبیه!

This is an excellent little book on Japanese religions. It describes the historical development of religions in Japan. It starts with Shinto, then describes the introduction of Buddhism and subsequent development of various Japanese strands of Buddhism. It also mentions the introduction of Christianity and the persecution that broke out in the Edo era. It is a well researched account that is very readable. Highly recommended for anyone with an interest in religion in Japan.

I can't tell if it's my particular background showing or if the book really did tend toward an exceptionally Western interpretation of religious drives, but I found this to throw a lot of other interpretations into question for me. Also, simple factual error: the Hebrew letter Aleph does not mean or represent 'Infinity'.

Good shit. Can’t go wrong with it. Covers everything I expected. Should have put the explanations to the readings before each individual reading, it would have made it a bit easier to follow. But still a 4-star book about Japanese religion.

Highly informative! There seemed to be a lot more history, names and dates than actual beliefs but I think this is a very handy introductory book.
