It essentially states that they are immature and we have to be patient and teach them. No, thanks, I'm busy and I am not willing to mother adults.

This book was suggested by a good friend to remind me of the fantastic young professionals I interact with within Rotary. I did not walk away with some earth shattering insight that I did not already know, but it helped remind and put into perspective how differently different generations interact and react to certain situations. It often appears in that "first reaction" - it sets the frame for which you view the interaction... and those frames can be hard to break out of. I would strongly suggest that it be ready by Generation Y as well as us "older folks", for it will help you recognize the frames when they happen to you in interactions with us... A good easy read that is highly recommended.

Αν και (ως συνήθως σε αυτές τις εκδόσεις) χάνει λίγο στη μετάφραση, το βρήκα ιδιαίτερα διαφωτιστικό και χρήσιμο. Αξίζει να έχει κανείς υπόψιν το και αυτή την οπτική και νομίζω επιβάλλεται για όλους όσους το επάγγελμα έχει να κάνει με ανθρώπους διαφόρων ηλικιών (διοικητικοί, εκπαιδευτικοί κλπ).

Σε κάθε περίπτωση, στο βιβλίο νομίζω ότι βρήκα μία από τις καλύτερες τοποθετήσεις - "εκφράσεις" για τη δική μου γενιά. Αναφέρομαι στη δεύτερη παράθεση.(Στην Ελλάδα νομίζω η γενιά του '80 ανήκει στη γενιά Χ και όχι Υ).

Κλέβω λοιπόν απ' το βιβλίο (αν και βγάζει σαφώς περισσότερο νόημα διαβάζοντας όλο το κεφάλαιο):

"Ο αμφιλεγόμενος συγγραφέας πολλών μπεστ σέλερ και μέλος της Γενιάς Χ, Bret Easton Ellis, περιέγραψε αυτό το συναίσθημα στη εφημερίδα New York Times το Δεκέμβριο του 1990:
Λίγα άτομα της γενιάς μου ζούσαν, πόσο μάλλον θυμούνται, τη δολοφονία του John F. Kennedy. Ωστόσο, οι μεγαλύτεροι από εμάς, ακόμα κι ήταν δύο χρονών, μπορούσαν να αισθανθούν ότι κάτι δεν πήγαινε καλά. Και σε όλη την υπόλοιπη παιδική μας ηλικία, τα πράγματα φαίνονταν να συνεχίζουν να πηγαίνουν έτσι...

Στον ίδιο τόνο, ο κοινωνικός ερευνητής Mark McCrindle αναφέρει τα λόγια ενός μέλους της Γενιάς Χ, ο οποίος περιγράφει τη ζωή του σαν 'να φτάνεις σε ένα πάρτι με καθυστέρηση μερικών ωρών - έχεις την αίσθηση ότι υπήρχε ένταση, αλλά το μόνο που έχει μείνει τώρα είναι μερικά κρύα λουκανικοπιτάκια και λίγα ξεθυμασμένα ποτά'."

It's a brilliant book!! Have seen the author in a presentation to colleagues at my school as well and it is a very engaging and practical presentation. I'll read the book over.

A great book for anyone who wants to understand Generation Y to be able to connect authentically with them.
