The elementary school I attended was a small private school in the middle of downtown Atlanta, across the street from what would later be the Georgia Aquarium, so we had many field trips to historical civil rights sites in the South. My class even had a story hour once with the late Coretta Scott King not long before her passing. Looking back, I really took for granted how much of an understanding of Southern American history we students had at such a diverse and progressive school. My how quickly times can change.
