The Power of Your Spoken Word

Rate this book
What’s the first thing you say to yourself when you wake up in the morning? What’s the last thing you think before you go to sleep at night? Are they “power thoughts,” or are they “poverty thoughts”?

On this engaging and spirited CD program, Louise helps you discover your own power, wisdom, and inner strength through the mastery of the words you speak. Many of you may not be aware of how influential your spoken words are. When you say anything, you are, in fact, extending your inner self-talk to create a similar world around you. In her warm and caring manner, Louise offers suggestions on how to eradicate negative self-talk and start surrounding yourself with positive thoughts and words to help create a loving life.

Louise Hay was born to a poor mother who married Hay's violent stepfather. When she was about five, she was raped by a neighbor. At fifteen she dropped out of high school without a diploma, became pregnant, and on her sixteenth birthday gave up her newborn baby girl for adoption.

She moved to Chicago, where she worked in menial jobs, before moving in 1950 to New York. At this point she changed her name and began a career as a fashion model. She was successful at this, working for Bill Blass, Oleg Cassini, and Pauline Trigere.

In 1954, she married Andrew Hay, but after fourteen years of marriage Louise was devastated when Andrew left her for another woman.

Hay said that she found the First Church of Religious Science on 48th Street, which taught the transformative power of thought. Hay revealed that here she studied the metaphysical works of authors like Florence Scovel Shinn and the Religious Science founder Ernest Holmes.

In the early 1970's Hay became a Religious Science practitioner. In this role she led people in spoken affirmations meant to cure their illnesses. She also became popular as a workshop leader.

She studied transcendental meditation with the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi at his university in Fairfield, Iowa.

In 1977 or 1978 she found she had cervical cancer, and she concluded that its cause was her unwillingness to let go of resentment over her childhood abuse and rape. She refused medical treatment, and began a regimen of forgiveness, therapy, reflexology, nutrition, and occasional enemas, and claims she rid herself of the cancer. She declared that there is no doctor left who can confirm this story, but swore that it is true.

In 1976 Hay wrote a small pamphlet, which came to be called "Heal Your Body." This pamphlet was enlarged and extended into her book You Can Heal Your Life, which was published in 1984. As of February 2008, it is still on the New York Times best sellers list.

Around the same time she began leading support groups for people living with H.I.V. or AIDS that she called Hay Rides. These grew from a few people in her living room to hundreds in a large hall in West Hollywood. Her work with AIDS patients drew fame and she was invited to appear on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" and "Donahue" in the same week in March, 1988.

You Can Heal Your Life immediately landed on the New York Times Best Sellers List. More than 35 million copies are now in print around the world in more than 30 languages and has been made into a movie.

Louise Hay established Hay House Publishing. It is the primary publisher of books and audio books by Deepak Chopra and Doreen Virtue, as well as many books by Wayne Dyer.

In addition to running her publishing company, Hay runs a charitable organization called Hay Foundation that was established in 1985.

This is probably the first audiobook I’ve listened to completely in one sitting. It’s not very long anyway but it just goes super fast. I had never heard of Louise Hays until a Facebook group. I saw this was available at my library and I downloaded it! I’m so glad I did. However it’s one of those things I’ll have to listen to a few times to get its full benefit.
I’ll start by saying that I absolutely love the sound of her voice. She’s very calming but also not monotonous. She’s lively enough to keep me alert and paying attention to her words. And that’s the subject of this book—words. We don’t realize how our words form our thoughts which then affect how we live our life. She’s basically telling us that if we start to pay attention to what we say and start changing how we say things, we can turn our thoughts into a positive which in turn will affect our life.
It made total sense to me. I will be listening again.

In this very short audio recording, Louise Hay mentions many important concepts anyone should bear in mind. Words either thought, spoken or written have great impact on ourselves and others. Particularly the words you choose for your inner dialog will influence your life in many ways for the better or worse. This audio program does not go into great detail and readers who are familiar with some of the other books by this author will not hear anything new. However, someone who would like to get a first taste of Ms. Hay's work may delight in 'The Power of Your Spoken Word' and then move on to some of her longer programs.

I enjoyed this audio book narrated by Louise Hay. She speaks on importance of changing our self talks and thoughts in order to completely transform our lives. She also mentions the importance of healthy eating to align our body and mind. Its a short book, but worthwhile.

This was a very short audiobook, but I found the message very empowering about the power of our thoughts and words and how a change on our perception and how we talk or think about ourselves or situations can have an effect. It is also narrated by the late Louise Hay which felt very personable.

This is an audio book not a written copy. I really enjoyed how she explains things and breaks them down into bite sized pieces.
