There's no such thing as just a kiss ...
Book 3 in the bestselling series The Hellion Club has arrived for your reading pleasure!
Chaos! That is what greets Miss Calliope St. James when she enters the household of her prospective employer, Lord Winn Hamilton, the Earl of Montgomery. The newly appointed guardian for his nieces and nephew, he's clearly a man who has no idea what to do with children... and they are children who clearly know when the adults in charge haven't a clue what they're doing. But he is handsome. Terribly, temptingly handsome even when he's maddening.
Winn thought it was bad enough when his home was overrun with children hell-bent on driving him insane. Then their new governess arrived... and she looks like no governess he's ever seen. Distractingly beautiful, maddeningly forthright, frustratingly capable-he's equal parts attracted to her and infuriated by her.
And then he sees the portrait... the portrait that changes everything. Because Calliope St. James isn't just the abandoned and unwanted child of unknown parents as she's always been led to believe. If Calliope is who he thinks she is, she's very, very wealthy and there are powerful people in the highest reaches of society who want her very, very dead.
To keep her safe, he'll have to keep her close, and that presents them both with an entirely different sort of danger.

Would have been more than 4 stars if it didn't slow burn me for so loooooong

I love Chasity Bowlin's books - they all have solid plots, usually some mystery involved that is challenging to solve but makes sense when everything comes to light, and steamy goodness!

Winn Hamilton, the Earl of Montgomery, is in dire straights. He has recently inherited his irresponsible younger brother's 3 children as both his brother and sister-in-law passed away, and they are more than he can handle. He turns to Effy, a woman known for training the best governesses around, and one of her top candidates, Miss Calliope St. James, comes to interview for the position. Even before she meets with the earl, she has the children wrapped around her fingers, and although Winn is nervous because he finds her extremely attractive, he hires her because he cares deeply for his nieces and nephews and wants the best for them.

Calliope is stunned by her reaction to the earl - she has never felt such attraction before, and she knows it can lead to ruination. Despite her misgivings, she takes the job because she knows she can help these children who have been so terribly neglected by their parents and need her. But she asks that the earl help her by trying to find her parents as Calliope was orphaned at birth and left at the steps of a horrid workhouse (named St. James, thus, her surname) before Effy came to her rescue. Calliope wants answers, and she is hoping the connections the earl has may lead to them. But as Winn finds out more about Calliope's past, danger creeps closer to her as there are people who would do anything - including kill - to keep her parentage secret. What will happen when her identity is revealed? Can Winn keep her safe? Will they be able to keep things professional, or will the powerful attraction they feel towards each other be too difficult to suppress?

What I liked:
--- Great character development - Winn and Calliope were very likeable and had more dimensions that originally believed
--- Excellent secondary character stories and development (especially the duke, Effy, and Heathcliff --- I definitely want to find out more about what happens with the last two on that list with the sparks that were flying throughout!)
--- Very solid plot with intrigue that kept me glued to the pages!
--- Once we got there, delicious steamy goodness

What I didn't like as much:
--- OMG the slow burn!! Seriously, though, I had to wait until 90-something percent through the book for decent action, and that really bummed me out; if it weren't for the super long tease, I would have probably gone with a 4.5 rating
--- A couple of loose ends (not a cliffhanger by any stretch!) were dangling... maybe they will be tied up in future books?

Overall, I very much enjoyed this story! It had a great plot, exceptional characters, and a mystery that kept me hooked!

Plot --- 4/5
Main Characters --- 4.5/5
Supporting Cast --- 4.5/5
Steam Level* --- 3/5
Violence --- nothing graphic
Language --- not egregious
POV --- 3rd

*Note that steam level is not a rating so much as a how hot was it: 0/5 - clean; 1/5 - mild; 2/5 - sensual but nothing descriptive; 3/5 - now we're getting somewhere; 4/5 - yes please! (erotica territory); 5/5 - they did EVERYTHING in this one, y'all!

Excellent!
This story is so awesome.
Every chapter opens another wonderful avenue to follow, the characters are spellbinding,
And I can honestly say the Prologue is to die for, these children are adorable.

I can’t find any fault with this book or the series, I rarely can with anything from Chasity Bowlin.
As soon as you enter her worlds your lost , totally encased in a different time and place.
I cannot get enough, can’t wait for the next.

Highcliffe and Effies story will be mind-blowing when it finally comes.
And I want to know more about Averston ,and maybe Amelia Burney too , both could do with a little love in their lives.

For now I’m thoroughly content in the fact I’ve just read a perfect story and there are more to come in this series, roll on the next one.

I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review

Wonderful cast of characters

So far the best in this series. Well designed plot including some suspense with the romance and well set character arcs for primary and secondary characters.

Romance w/ mystery.

Lord Winn Hamilton, an earl, learned the hard way
his brother & SIL died. His nephew and nieces were
dropped off to his home. Calliope "Callie" St. James
became the warm, caring governess of these 3 kids.
These kids had been neglected by their fickle parents,
had insufficient food and too-small clothing. And
lacked affection.

The MCs showed us honesty & they gradually became
smitten with ea. other. Callie showed no fear in stand-
ing up to him, but I would not call her a shrew. He was
a good man. They saved their more intimate moments for
marriage.

The story depicted characters of mystery, some sinister,
one: pure evil. Some blackmail, some murder.

Callie had a friend/ mentor in Effie, dir. of a foundling
home. Effie + Highcliff had a past? I'd gladly read more
about them.

I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher, via NetGalley. This in no way impacted on my view.

What Happens in Piccadilly follows Calliope St James as she become the governess to three wayward children, Claudia, William, and Charlotte. The three have been orphaned recently, after living in Spain for their whole lives, and are now in the care of their uncle, Winn, the Earl of Montgomery. Winn's household is in chaos, and the children have managed to run out any of the previous governesses. However, as soon as they meet Callie, it's clear she is what they need, but Uncle Winn is struggling with his attraction for her. When he spots a portrait in the home of one of his acquaintances, that looks exactly like Callie, it leads them both to a secret which caused Callie to be brought up in a work house, and could cause them serious problems, and put them in danger.

I initially went into this book because I've been looking for more governess stories, a la The Governess Game, and this one seemed to fit the bill. I was right, and more, because the second plot line following Callie's parentage and the danger this put her in, just blew me away. Callie is vulnerable, we see here, because she's always assumed her was just dumped because she wasn't wanted or loved, and finding out that might not be true, that it was to protect her, is heartbreaking. Luckily she has a group of people who love and care about her now, including Effie, Winn, and the children, that she is definitely supported.

This is what I would call a sort of 'found family' book. Winn has happily lived life as a bachelor, with no particular inducement to marry any time soon, or at all, but having both his father die, his nieces and nephew thrust upon him, and meeting Callie has made him start to reconsider. Now the Earl, he has more responsibility, and having three wayward kids added to the mix has left him at the end of his tether. All the children need is a bit of love and affection, which was sorely missing from their parents, and Winn isn't yet in the right frame of mind for that to work. With Callie at his side, the children come out of their shells, and fall in love with both their uncle, and their governess, and they want them to marry. The way the bairns treated both adults was cute, and added to seeing Callie and Winn's relationship as real. Both of them had undeniable chemistry, and clearly had feelings for one another, but because of their positions, and later the danger surrounding Callie, they fought the attraction, but it was too late - they were already far gone! Though my first book by Chasity, it won't be my last!

Good characters. The children are charming. Calliope is sure of herself and her abilities but not arrogant. She isn't trying to break the social rules but willing to push them for the sake of the children. The Earl is a solid character and grows throughout the book.

It has an interesting plot with some complicated social issues that can't be fixed because of modern views. Instead, some sort of compromise must be found that is acceptable to the readers but also works within the realities of society at the time. I thought that the handling of the danger to Calliope was a anticlimactic. The dowager duchess is such a threat than with just one interview it is over. Seems to easy. But overall, I enjoyed the book.

My review :

When danger looms over the woman who has caught his heart, what is he to do ...

Wow, it has been a while since I have read The Beast of Bath, and here the story is a bit more complex.
While it is the third in a series, I did not felt lost, and have not even a notion of the other books.

This is a multi layers story, with many points of view and While there is a common background plot, it was like there were three different stories in this book, all interconnected: the romance with Winn and Calliope, the investigation with Highcliff and Effie and then a window on the villain’s side with the Averstons.
Winn is no rake, or gamblers nor womanizer, he was labeled as the dull and boring heir not like his wild younger brother, when he is just a nice man never longing to live in his peer’s excesses.
Calliope was lucky to have survived the workhouse’s life, despite everything she had like a lucky star hovering above her, and Ellie’s help to become the accomplished woman she is now.
Their tale is sweet and with few easy dents to circumvent to get their HEA.
I confess I am very much more intrigued by Effie and Highcliff , there is a grand story behind theirs. I do suppose they were the links between the three books in this series, and I very much hope to read their book.
Averston, I agree with Burney, if not for his dukedom, he is to pity, having grown up with a monster to monitor everything around him, he is like an empty shell, having already lost too much under this evil’s thumb. He is one character I would love to see again.

With this lovely story, Mrs Chasity Bowlin entertains her reader and proves her talent in intertwining the lives of many characters at a very specific time.
4.5 stars

This was such a great book! My first by Chasity Bowlin, but not my last.

I was hooked right from the start. I love a governess story, but this was so much more in all the right ways. All the characters were multilayered and interesting. There was such a great balance of the light hearted moments of joy and laughter, and the intense moments of danger and sorrow.

This book had a lot going on, almost three stories that seamlessly wove into one.

Winn is my favorite kind of hero. Charming, sweet, sarcastic, but fiercely protective. Callie is no wallflower. She's endured a lifetime of hardships but still sees the beauty of life. The characters actually spoke to each other, no misunderstandings, so that was quite refreshing.

I love that Winn and Callie's connection was really first formed through the children. The three kids were not just used to be cutesy, but they had some of the best and more poignant moments. The romance between Winn and Callie was very sweet, and pretty chaste. A few short kissing scenes, and the final intimate scene at the end was not detailed and pretty much fade to black.

I NEED to know more about Effie and Highcliff. I don't know if there is more about their relationship in another book, or if they are getting their own story, but the chemistry (and tension) was off the charts. Their secrets are going to make for a juicy tale.

I really was in tears at the end, mostly due to the beautiful way Averston's story was handled. I don't want to give anything away, but his story is one I'd love to see more of in historical romance, and this author handled it with grace, but reaching a very modern audience where the words are still vital and important. I hate to be vague, but you'll want to read this for yourself!

This book kept me up late reading and had several surprises. I really enjoyed the author's writing style.

Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC of this book, all opinions are my own.

What Happens in Piccadilly by Chasity Bowlin

#REVIEW

#HistoricalRomance

I feel like May has been an exceptionally good month for reading. Particularly since I’ve been on an epic historical romance binge for most of it. However, “What Happens in Piccadilly” by author Chasity Bowlin is by far the most mesmerising and certainly the most extraordinary of the plethora of ye old timey romances that I’ve been invested in. It is spectacularly planned out, beautifully written and executed with such finesse and talent that you come away feeling exhilarated, tingly and warm with an abundance of love and also, so very thankful for having been able to immerse yourself so fully in the complicated lives of our heroic earl and intrepid governess.

‘Then his fingers began to fly over the keys, playing a tune she’d never heard before. And she was simply spellbound by it. The notes surrounded her, transported her, and the very complicated man who played them...well, he held her spellbound as much as the music did. He filled her senses and left her reeling.’

Chasity Bowlin has this remarkable way of weaving a tale, of luring you in with the magic and beauty of her words. The dialogue used between Calliope St. James and Lord Winn Hamilton, Earl of Montgomery is something sublime and decadent, something to be savoured and enjoyed. They are equally matched in wit, intelligence and respect for one another and it flows like poetry through their actions, their glances, touches and their words. It’s simply a thrilling, supremely romantic, masterpiece of historical romance, with an exciting air of intrigue and mystery layered throughout.

‘He leaned in and touched his lips to hers. It was only a whisper of a kiss, but it felled him as surely as a volley from a cannon. Against every urge that gripped him, he didn’t take her into his arms. He didn’t deepen the kiss. Instead, he simply settled his lips more firmly upon hers and committed the texture of them, the taste of them and the lightning bolt sensations they stirred in him, to memory. Because even as he kissed her, he knew it was an error that could never be repeated but would often be remembered.’

There is something so romantic and provocative about love stories between the poor but confident governess and the unattainable, yet surprisingly sweet aristocratic hero. The difference in stations and the added drama that comes along with that surely entices but it’s more than that. It’s the power and unwavering devotion in their feelings, the strength to take on the ton and all of its gossip, simply because the force of what they feel for each other is much too strong to deny or bury. It helps that in this particular story we have two incredible, impressive and absolutely lovable lead characters paving the way. Not to mention some astounding performances from the mischievous but adorable children, the magnificent Effie and the intriguing Highcliff.

Chasity Bowin has penned a truly splendid historical romance, a beautiful love story that travels along seamlessly on a plot full of comedy, drama, murder, mystery and a smidgen of angst. Not forgetting the most captivating element of all- the romance. So wonderfully written that I got to the end and immediately wanted to do a re-read.

What Happens in Piccadilly is supposedly a ‘historical’ romance which takes place in 1800s England. The premise, which initially drew me in —as I’m a sucker for hidden identities which unfold for both the reader and the storybook character at the same time— was hard to focus on when there were so many inconsistencies with language for the time period, and behavior of the characters for the time period. The word ‘suss’ was used in this book, a word that wasn’t in existence until the 1930s. There were also other red flag behaviors that I found completely unlikely for the time period that really took me outside of the world the author was trying to build (namely: as Callie was a stranger at the time, it was odd of her to go up to the children and speak freely and plainly with them).
There were also too many different storylines for other characters that took over the book that I didn’t know who to focus my attention on, and frankly, stopped caring about any of the characters because the development of the ‘main’ characters Calliope and Win, stopped a few chapters into the book. Calliope, an orphaned woman who had a lot of luck in her life that helped her become a governess for the upperclass, was a snob. It is hard to get behind and support a leading character who thinks other people who work are beneath you. I also did not understand how Win and Calliope fell in love; it was lust at first sight. And then there were the storylines in the viewpoint of Effie, and later the viewpoint of Averston— obviously these two are going to have two separate books for their characters’ stories, however I feel strongly that this book had too much time spent in their heads and not enough time spent in the reprehensible Callie and dull Win.

I received an ARC from the author and publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Romance, wit, and underlying suspense all make this novel entertaining and enjoyable. After being rescued from an orphanage, Calliope is educated and trained as a governess by a woman who becomes her mentor and best friend. Taking on an assignment at the Earl of Montgomery's home as governess for his unruly nieces and nephew is more of an adventure than Callie bargained for. The children are feral, according to Winn, and he is in despair as their arrival on his doorstep has resulted in chaos in his once quiet home. Callie is immediately attracted to Winn and sets the boundaries, ensuring that they maintain distance. However, when Winn inadvertently discovers Callie's true background, he finds that he has a deep compulsion to keep her safe. The plot kept my interest and the children added moments of hilarity as they test their boundaries and reveal that although undisciplined and lacking in education, they are nevertheless very perceptive and intelligent. I enjoyed this well-written book, which although part of a series is nevertheless a standalone and comes to a good conclusion. I received a copy of this book through NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Mary Poppins, no make that Calliope, steps into utter chaos when she goes to interview for a governess job and meets three unruly children and their uncle, the Earl of Montgomery. "From his broad, high forehead, patrician nose and perfectly sculpted jaw line and cleft chin, he was simply perfection. His undeniable masculine beauty was coupled with a tall and imposing frame, broad shoulders and lean hips. If this man was the Earl of Montgomery, she could never work for him. Not in a million years."
When Winn saw her, all he saw was the three children, his wards, sitting around her feet and a beautiful angel, er ,woman and the least "governess-like, governess he'd ever seen."
Then I started laughing out loud. Oh yes, dry humor and I knew this story would be glorious! Classic Chasity Bowlin with her wit and wonderful characters that you cannot help but love!!
Calliope and Winn both had their own hurts in their lives and reading how these two navigate together was enlightening. Prepare to be captured by page one and not get up until the last page is turned!!! Priceless!

I now have another favorite author.! This is the 1st book I read of Chasity Bowlin.....what Happens in Piccadilly is a series book, so I am reading out of order, but I really don’t think it matters. This story of Winn and Callie will make you think of Mary Poppins in the beginning. Winn a confirm bachelor is now responsible for his 2 nieces and nephew. The children are rambunctious and poor Winn needs help. In steps Callie.....nanny extraordinaire. As in all good reads ..... humor, mystery, evil and happily ever after are included. Chasity characters are all wonderful. Was a book a couldn’t put down.

Lord Winn Hamilton, the Earl of Montgomery, is at his wits’ end. He recently lost both his father and his younger brother, as well as his sister-in-law, and is now the guardian to his nephew and two nieces. Too bad he has no earthly idea what to do with children. The arrival of Ms. St. James, the new governess, shakes Winn even more. She is beautiful, blunt, and exceedingly competent, and he finds himself fiercely attracted to her and just as fiercely annoyed by her success with the children where he has failed.

Calliope St. James is greeted by abject chaos when she arrives at the home of her employer. The Earl clearly has no clue how to handle children and the children have more than taken advantage of that fact. Callie knows the children and the Earl need her help, she just has to keep things professional and ignore her attraction to her new employer.

Progress is being made with the children and things are off to a solid start until Winn sees a portrait in the home of an acquaintance. The portrait could change everything because it means Callie isn’t an abandoned, anonymous orphan as she always believed. If Winn’s supposition is correct, Callie is actually heiress to a very large fortune and that puts her in grave danger from powerful, well-positioned people who’d like nothing better than to see her dead.

I really enjoyed this book. It took me awhile to read it, but only because my life has not been conducive to reading lately and through no fault of its own. The story was engrossing and I loved both main characters and found the children to be adorable. I loved Callie and Winn together and greatly appreciated their determination to be together despite societal obstacles in their way. The supporting characters were also interesting to read and I hope to see more of them in future books. I’m a newcomer to this series but I’d like to go back and read the first two books now and I look forward to more of this series.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The love of the two main characters in this novel is brought about by the children. Needing a governess for his brother's siblings, Winn, the Earl of Montgomery, hires Callie, who enters to chaos in his home. Callie has a firm, but gentle hand with the children, though she does not know of family. She was found as a baby and has the hurt of abandonment. Winn lives a respectable life, not that of a rake, and is shocked when Callie challenges him and respects her for it. Callie understands what the children need and helps Winn to realize the children need love and guidance. When Winn sees something that could hurt Callie, he knows he must warn and protect her. However, there are those who betray Winn and Callie is put in danger as well as anyone associated with her. Some will do anything to keep secrets buried and destroy those who possess a threat to them. Winn and Callie need to get on the offensive, if they want to stay alive.
I received this novel from net galley and the publisher as an ARC. Thank you! All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Avarice and Lies

She's a governess raised in the Dower School For Girls. He's an Earl who has inherited three children from his brother and sister-in-law who were killed in an accident. Calliope is hired as governess to the three only to have someone start trying to kill her. This story takes so many twists and turns you stay on the edge of your seat

Calliope (the female MC) is a governess with a ‘troubled’ past (i.e.: she’s an orphan and knows nothing of her parents). She’s hired to be the Governess of 3 unruly children of an Earl’s household, and of course she’s a-amazing at it and a saint with kids.

Winn (the male MC) is said Earl and employer. For a nice change, he’s not a rake or philanderer or whatnot. He’s quite nice and cute, actually. Pretty enjoyable.

Regardless, Winn (peculiar name, by the way), after having a case of insta-lust at seeing Calliope, is quick to ‘run away’ and distract himself with work. On one such business venture, he’s at a Duke’s place (the Duke of Averston or something) where he sees a painting depicting a rather familiar face... Lo and behold, turns out she’s the estranged mother of our dear Calliope. After a weird conversation where the current Duke spouts out all the family secrets and past to Winn without reservations (that was strange...), Winn is proud of himself to realise that Calliope is the daughter of the former Duke! *Dramatic gasp*

BUT, the current Duke is not ready to leave his position and the riches, so he’s quite clear that if a heir of the former Duke is found, they would meet an untimely end. (Again, Winn was told this clearly. There is no fear of future charges for these people, it seems.) Winn decides himself he should protect Calliope at ANY cost, and make sure that she knows nothing of why she is being protected in the first place, because... Well, because.

This book was nice and all that, however, I’m not the best person to be around children. I’m not afraid to say I bloody hate those little monsters, so reading a book where three children were mentioned on every chapter was not my idea of a good read. At the end of the day, I’m trying to read a romance, not a guide on how to raise some uneducated kids.

Furthermore, what was up with Callie talking back at Winn so much? Yes, she’s a strong, independent woman yada yada... But it was unrealistic how she wasn’t fired in 0.5 seconds and booted out at the curb on her arse. Some things she said were actually pretty rude and presumptuous, and even I would get angry and fire her straightaway (and I’m a 21st century gal), let alone Winn-the-19th-century-aristocratic-male. But oh! He wants to bone her, so of course she gets a free pass (or a hundred). Blergh.

When I woke up this morning, and remembered that I had to finish reading this book, I didn’t sigh in pleasure or giddily grabbed my phone with a big, excited grin on my face.
Oh no.
My first thought was, “Bloody ‘ell, I have to read about those children again.”

They’re not the worst children characters I’ve read, but then again, I don’t have the patience for any children characters.

Apart from all that, I liked Winn, I liked Callie (as long as I ignored her unrealistic perfection with the children) and the storyline was good.

What Happens in Piccadilly by Chasity Bowlin has one of the best openings I have ever read. Certainly different than most Regency-style books and different from those Bowlin has previously written. This is the third in her Hellion Club series, all good read, but this is the best so far. Calliope St. James has arrived to her interview for a governess position to be place that might be mistaken for Bedlam. Servants are running around, as are several children, and one of the children is on the sill of an open window on the second floor. She takes charge of the children immediately, sending the eldest to retrieve his sister from the window, and sits them all down to listen to her read. By the time the Earl of Montgomery arrives homes, all is well in hand, although Callie instantly determines that she cannot work here. He is far to young, and too handsome.

Being trained in the home/school run by Miss Euphemia Darrow, it was not only assumed that Callie was an excellent governess, but further, that she was likely the by blow of nobility as that was the type person Euphemia normally took in. It wasn't too long before Winn, The Duke of Montgomery, saw a portrait in the home of an associate, the subject of which was the spitting image of Calliope St. James. The game was now afoot. This was a thoroughly entertaining read, one with a foregone conclusion, which made it all the more endearing. Callie was an entertaining character with a mind of her own, and multiple strategies to tame children who had never really known love. The addition of Miss Darrow and Lord Highcliff, as well as a focused and ruthless duchess make this a very intriguing read. Thanks Chasity! I recommend it.

I received a free ARC of What Happens in Piccadilly from Dragonblade, through Netgalley, in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions and interpretations contained herein are solely my own. #netgalley #Whathappensinpiccadilly

Chaos! That is what greets Miss Calliope St. James when she enters the household of her prospective employer, Lord Winn Hamilton, the Earl of Montgomery. The newly appointed guardian for his nieces and nephew, he’s clearly a man who has no idea what to do with children… and they are children who clearly know when the adults in charge haven’t a clue what they’re doing. But he is handsome. Terribly, temptingly handsome even when he’s maddening. Winn thought it was bad enough when his home was overrun with children hell-bent on driving him insane. Then their new governess arrived… and she looks like no governess he’s ever seen. Distractingly beautiful, maddeningly forthright, frustratingly capable—he’s equal parts attracted to her and infuriated by her. And then he sees the portrait… the portrait that changes everything. Because Calliope St. James isn’t just the abandoned and unwanted child of unknown parents as she’s always been led to believe. If Calliope is who he thinks she is, she’s very, very wealthy and there are powerful people in the highest reaches of society who want her very, very dead.

Chasity Bowlin weaves a story fraught with mystery, murder and mayhem wrapped in a web of wit, romance, and chaos! Lord Winn Hamilton has no clue what to do with his neices and nephew until Caliope St. James arrives. Now he has a governess telling him what to do and three "feral" children. The banter between the characters is witty, heart-warming, and personable. The governess, Miss Caliope St. James is from the prestigious Darrow School for Women. Though she is young and inexperienced, she has more than enough confidence which leads to some trying situations. The suspense in the story is palpable. From the first page I was hooked and I could not put this book down. I would definitely recommend this book!

Calliope St James is a governess from Effie Darrow’s school. Rescued from horrible cruelty from the St James Workhouse, she is an extremely competent and kind governess, who is responding to a request from the Earl of Montgomery for a governess for his three wards, orphans of his feckless brother. When Calliope arrives, she is confronted by three misbehaving children, who are acting up because they have been poorly treated and ignored by both of their parents and don’t know any better. Winn, Ha,intonations, the Earl, wants to do his best by them, but has not idea how. When Calliope brings order in minutes he is grateful and also intensely attracted to this quietly beautiful and capable soul.

As she Steele’s in to her post, this attraction between them grows, and when Winn spots a portrait that could be her double at the residence of the Duke of A Reston’s residence, he realises she is in mortal danger, and he will need to keep her close to protect her.

This was glorious, the subplot with Averston was handled beautifully, there was a great villain, the MC’s and the children were a joy and beautifully written. We saw lots of Effie and Highcliffe, and the whole thing was a joy from beginning to end. I absolutely loved the fact that Winn wasn’t a bad boy, or a rake or a scoundrel or a cad etc etc, but also not emasculated or weak in any way. He was judged perfectly.

Highly recommended, can’t wait for the next book!

I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and all opinions are my own.

The title ‘What happens in Piccadilly’ gave me no impression of what an amazing love story this would be. Whilst this was the third book in ‘The Hellion Club’ series, it is definitely a stand-alone book and it shows how the author, can fully reveal integral characters into the story, so seamlessly.
Miss Calliope St. James finds employment as a governess with Lord Winn Hamilton, the Earl of Montgomery. As the newly appointed guardian for his nieces and nephew, he is desperate for Calliope’s assistance, but soon finds himself as equally captivated by her calming presence, as are the children. However, he soon uncovers the secret behind her parentage, and finds himself, desperate to protect her from the imminent danger, once her true identity is revealed.
I must admit that the character of Winn, would have to be one of best male characters in quite some time. It was so refreshing to have a male, without being the rogue, and being honourable, a true gentleman and a kind uncle. Together he and Calliope make such a lovely couple. The dialogue between them is both witty and intelligent, and filled with admiration for the other. I loved every moment of this book, and truly wished it could go on for longer. I also look forward to reading more about Highcliffe and Effie, two equally fascinating characters.

A novel that captures Bowlin’s style perfectly. With a narrative that follows multiple characters, the story, while being pretty straightforward, ups the stakes with each new development. Every character is fleshed out and further contributes to the story, and Bowlin should be commended on not only her portrayal of the three children but their interaction with the rest of the characters as well.

However, the story isn’t perfect. The romance between the leads is tangible, though it definitely takes a back seat to the rest of the plot. Initially, it comes off as lust at first sight, though does develop more fully over the course of the story. The dialogue sounds realistic, flowing easily as it develops the characters and their personalities as well as their relationships with others and the plot. Calliope particularly comes off as a strong female lead, although some may take issue with how freely she speaks her mind, particularly for the time this story is placed. However, the main issue is how easily Calliope’s identity is revealed when it is. If it was that easy, and her parents were that famous, it doesn’t make sense that her lineage is only now being brought to light.

Overall, What Happens in Piccadilly is an entertaining regency read filled with humor, romance, and suspense.

How could you do this to me Goodreads? How can I put any faith in the scoring system if you’ve recommended this absolute SNOOZEFEST to me. I don’t know If I’ve ever struggled to finish a book in my life?

The hero was so perfect he was almost boring and the heroine was written so unrealistically I started to cringe whenever she opened her mouth!
For eg: she’s known them 2 days and she’s yelling at him, her employer, in the foyer of his own house because of some perceived slight on the children she’s made up in her head!? Are you for real!!!??

The whole book takes place in just over a week for heavens sake!!?

Oh and the huge danger that she’s in, which is the premise of the whole book, is resolved by having a conversation with the person that murdered everyone and relying on them just to serve themselves their own comeuppance. All in a matter of a paragraph. Again, ARE YOU FOR REAL!?

“Surely that’s not it?” I said to myself “SURELY NOT!? PLEASE SOMETHING ELSE HAPPEN!?” I pleaded at my book. Hoping and praying it would redeem itself and the time I spent trudging through this thing. But nope.
A few pages left for the couple to get in a tepid quicky and -The end.

If you’re thinking of reading this, if you enjoy extremely watered down wine. Then this is the book for you.

Ugh I’m so mad.

This was my first book by this author and I received it as an arc for review.

I adored this book! It’s the third in the series and while there were some secondary character storylines I missed it didn’t infringe on my understanding of the book at all.

Winn needs a governess. His brother has left three children for him to care for and he loves them, but has no clue how to deal with them.

Calliope is a highly trained governess and makes a connection with the children right away and also with their uncle. She herself is an orphan that never had a family so understands what these children are dealing with.

Everything is respectable until Winn realizes that Calliope may be more than an orphaned girl who was rescued from a work house to be a governess.

The unveiling of her identity leads to danger as some don’t want her known. Winn and Calliope, along with friends and family, need to uncover the mystery and keep Calliope safe.

The characters were amazing. I loved the personalities that shown in the three children and how Winn struggled with three orphans in his bachelor home. The relationship between Calliope and Winn is more of a slow burn and I loved the little moments. The danger and mystery added to the excitement. Overall a great book!

I've read the whole series and each story received 5 star reviews from me. I think this maybe my favorite because so much goes on. You will not be lost (stand alone story) at all because this author is so talented and unfolds her stories in such a way that you feel you are part of the company of character's!

The children added so much. You will laugh at their antics, but also have a sadness of what they experienced in their short lives.

The H/h are strong, honorable and loving character's that you couldn't help rooting for them to find their HEA.

There are many nasty villains and you think you know where the story is taking you but oh, you would be so wrong. This author keeps us on our toes to keep reading to discover what tragedy one of the villains has in store.

The side story about the Duke is sad. It will give you perspective from another POV.

We are treated to so much in the suspense and mystery departments that I hated to see it end. Plus we have several twists that will surprise you.

There is lovemaking, within marriage, heat level 4 out of 5. Just enough description to feel the love and passion - not vulgar.

No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, romance and a tad of spice. (ljb)

Lord Wynn Hamilton, the Earl of Montgomery recently received guardianship of his nieces and nephew. With his butler running off with the governess and his silver, he is desperate for help with his uncontrollable charges.

Calliope St. James was trained at the Darrow School - the best school for teaching governesses, so naturally she is one of the best governesses available. But when Lord Wynn pieces together things about Miss St. James' past that not even she knows, will he be able to keep her safe when others are trying to keep secrets buried?

This is a quick paced read about three children hell-bent on driving their uncle crazy, a smart and beautiful governess who quickly catches the eye of her employer, a handsome earl, and a mystery that if figured out could lead to death. This is the first book I have read in Ms. Bowlin's Hellion Club series and I did not feel like I was missing out by not having read others. I recommend this to those looking for a historical romance read and I cannot wait to read more in the series.

This book was given to me an an ARC from the publisher through NetGalley in an exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.

Winn Hamilton the Earl of Montgomery has had his brothers three children thrust upon him when his wastrel brother died. Not knowing what to do with children and having them run amok in his household until the beautiful Calliope James enters his house. When Calliope James goes for her interview for a governess position she is greeted by children running amok like a wild bunch of animals! Taking control of the situation Calliope stops the chaos and is drawn into the lives of three children who know no boundaries. Winn can’t help being attracted to Calliope both by her beauty but by her love and caring for the children.

When Winn discovers who Calliopes parents were vows to protect her from the possible evil that lurks there. Calliope faces the news of her parentage as she faces everything head on. Falling for the handsome Winn Hamilton could be the worst or the best thing in her life, but putting the children and Winn in danger is a risk she can’t take.

This was such a wonderful story! The beginning just made me laugh! I thoroughly enjoyed read Winn and Calliopes story. Definitely recommend reading this book!
