Rebecca Chance was born in Hampstead to international art dealer parents, and grew up in the exclusive millionaire’s row surroundings of London’s St John’s Wood. Tiring of her cushioned, privileged existence, she ran away to Tuscany to live a wild bohemian life on a wine-making estate, where she lived in a 14th century villa in a Chianti vineyard, partying with artists, learning Italian, and picking grapes. But big city life was calling her, and after staying in Rome and Porto Ercole, she moved to Manhattan, lured by the glamorous single-girl existence and nonstop nightlife. She spent a decade living the Sex and The City dream in SoHo, equally at home in an uptown penthouse on Fifth Avenue overlooking the Metropolitan Museum, or downtown dancing on the bar of the Coyote Ugly for kicks. Eventually, a handsome American husband in tow, she moved back to London to settle down (as much as she can) and finally fictionalize some of her most exciting and glamorous experiences into her bestselling blockbuster novels. Rebecca’s interests include trapeze, pole-dancing, watching "America’s Next Top Model", and cocktail-drinking.
I am getting my Rebecca Chance fix this year. I have read three of her books in the last four weeks, one of which was a first time read for me and the two others were the second time reads for me. She almost never disappoints. I didn't much like Bad Sisters but everything else by her has been a delicious read served to me on a hot platter with saucy sauce (couldn't think of anything better). Rebecca Chance delivers in her signature style with hot, beautiful, whiny, vindictive characters and story full of raunchy sex, witty one liners, betrayal, deception and a murder or an attempted murder and I loved every bit of it.
We get this story from four different POVs and I loved reading them all. For the first time I found myself liking all the main characters in a Rebecca Chance book. I don't know how Rebecca does this but she creates such similar characters yet completely different from each other. Without giving anything away, I'd say it is a perfect holiday or a lazy weekend read.
Yesterday I found out that one of favourite authors had another book coming out this summer so I knew had to do another review of her books! Bad Girls is probably a joint favourite along with Divas with regards to Rebecca's books. I believe I first read it in 2010 and it's yet to be dated or any less fun with every read in 2016.
All of Rebecca Chance's books take part in the glitzy world of celebrity/high society and I honestly think it's adds an extra layer of deliciousness to her stories. It always makes you think back to real life celebrity events like maybe, just maybe, you've been duped. Another great aspect of these books is the underlying mystery. It's always the person you'd least expect even when you go into the book mistrusting everyone.
Bad Girls takes place in a rehab facility (Cascabel) in which, honestly, only two of the four main characters need to be in. Having two characters in the facility for duplicitous reasons only causes the book to be more intriguing as regardless of the reasons they are in there, they do need to complete the programme to get out. We get a lot of backstory before our main characters go to rehab -Cascabel is a great meeting point for them all as irrespective of whether their issues are "real" or not, we learn that these characters need each other anyway if only to make each other better people.
As always, there's always a throwaway reference to previous character (which I love, because as constantly mentioned I have issues with saying goodbye!). Additionally, I believe Rebecca Chance does a wonderful job at making you root for potentially unsympathetic characters. It's important to realise that your characters can have flaws but if you allow them to accept them and continue to grow, the characters can and will steal your heart.

Model Amber Peters has a successful career, money and men at every turn. But she is hiding a secret addiction to drugs that threatens to ruin everything that she holds dear. Petal Gold is the daughter of a famous rock star, and pretty much lives off her last name being “Gold”. Petal is enjoying living the high life in London but when some unsavoury pictures of her and her boyfriend end up in the papers, Petal’s father sends her to rehab telling her if she doesn’t go, she’ll be cut off from him and his fortune. Skye Ellwood is a lap dancer who has bigger dreams for herself but has no idea how to get out of the situation she’s stuck in. However, one of her clients offers her an opportunity that might just be too good to miss. And finally, Hollywood heart-throb Joe Jeffreys has got everything perfect – his fiancée, his career is on the up and he’s generally happy. But when he’s caught at a strip club, Joe is keen to save his image and so heads to rehab for his sex addiction. But none of them plan on the events that happen when they enter – should they have just said “No, No, No”?
When I was sent an early copy of Rebecca Chance’s Bad Girls to review for the site, I was really thrilled because I had loved her debut novel Divas which came out last summer. The book was originally titled Drama Queens but after reading it, I think that ‘Bad Girls’ certainly suits it far better so I applaud whoever decided on the title change. I also love the cover, I think the white and silver really works well with the blue shoe being the stand out piece, and it is definitely a book I would pick off the shelf if I were looking for a good read. She is very much in the vein of a blockbuster type read, so if it that is what you like, I’d highly recommend giving Rebecca Chance a read. Anyway, back to the review!
The book starts off with Amber in a precarious situation, being held by a strange person and she’s clearly been drugged. Then the book suddenly flies to another time when Amber was modelling and dating men, which I found really good. It kept me hanging as to what had happened, and it was a really good start to the book. The book then alternates between who the story follows, whether it’s Amber, Joe, Petal or Skye and I really liked that because it kept the narrative fresh and me really interested. I thought the book would move to rehab quite quickly but it took around a third of the way until that happened, but I didn’t mind at all.
It gives a good background to all the characters because of the alternative chapters and therefore I felt that I cared for them and was definitely interested enough to keep on reading. I liked how all of the characters had their different reasons for entering rehab because that gives a good slant to the story and certainly made that part of the book more interesting. I really loved Skye’s character, she was fantastic because she had such a personality and was so likeable despite a few of the questionable things she did, but she was definitely my favourite of the bunch. Petal I probably disliked the most because of her spoilt brat attitude, and I also found Joe and Amber to be likeable enough too.
There was another interlude in the middle about Amber’s mystery drugging that carried on the mystery element of the book which again had me thinking because of other things I had read. The book moves on really well, and there are lots of twists and turns along the way that keep you hooked on getting to the end and I really loved the pace of the book too. The narrative moves at a really good speed, enough to make you want to keep turning the pages but also enough to give you detail to make you care about the characters. Chance’s writing is really easy to read, and makes reading the book a pleasure. Do be aware that there are some pretty graphic sex scenes in the book, a couple of them actually so if that isn’t your thing be warned!
I really enjoyed this book overall, and would definitely recommend it. If you like a blockbuster type read in the vein of Tilly Bagshawe, Sasha Wagstaff or Tara Hyland, I would definitely suggest reading this book, or Chance’s debut Divas. I loved the characters, the story was exciting and I couldn’t put it down until I’d turned the last page. This would make a great beach read, but I have enjoyed reading it in the cool autumnal evenings that have been setting in because it really is a book to lose yourself in! Recommended, and another great read from Rebecca Chance!
CW: drug addiction, overdose, sex addiction, prostitution, attempted murder
This was my first book by Rebecca Chance, but it won't be my last. I really enjoyed the writing and the characters, (except the parents, they were horrible) and I also didn't like Petal much at times as I thought she was jealous of people and an attention seeker, although looking at her parents it wasn't hard to see why she was that way. I enjoyed learning about why they were in the clinic.
I kept reading this constantly, turning the pages quickly so I could read what happened next
I enjoyed the way the story wrapped up all the characters lives neatly and I was happy at each character's ending.
I'm looking forward to reading more books by Rebecca Chance.
From my opinion, the name of this book " Bad Girls" is simply describe the concept of this story.
Aug 16, 2013 This book has a very interesting introduction. First few pages show me how the main character live her life. She has an expensive taste and she is not a good girl, by showing that she is getting drunk in the night club while wearing an expensive designer's dress.
Sep 2, 2013 After I have read this book for four chapters. I start to realize that this writer has her technique of how to show the readers by revealing main character's memories in her past by show the establishing picture first, then describe the situation and the mind of main character back at that time comparing with main character's ideas about the same situation now. She gave the close up idea and details of the main character's mistakes and let me think that if I am in the position of the main character, how should I deal with that situation. The main character has her weakness that she never feel warmth from her parents. She was born originally rich and right now she is a very rich rich person. She decided to spend her money in the wrong way with non necessary things such as alcohol beverage and parties. Events from the past kept revealing in the form of her memory until the fourth chapter of this book and I still not get that what is her actual situation right now? instead of knowing only her past.
Sep 29, 2013 I did not update this section as often as it should be..... :( After I read approximately a half of this book here is the summary of the story so far.
This author has a very clear idea about how to persuade the readers about the story. She started by giving out the clue about the whole story and telling the story in the past about the main character. After the few chapters, she started to connect the story in the past with the current stories about the main character now. I am not really sure which stages am I right now but the part that I am reading must be the turning point of this book.
There is a girl who used to be rich. She is a 27 years old girl who has a huge amount of money. She is in a high society class, her father is a business man whose always busy with his business and always forgot his daughter. She grew up without warmth in her heart, she got so many people who said the she is a beautiful girl, she is smart, so many of them says that they love she, but she could not find one of them who does really love her. The more she grow up, she more she goes out at night. She likes partying. One day she started to realize that her life has becomes aimless, she has lots of money but she never felt fulfilled in her life. She has a boyfriend, she has been together with this guy for one and a half year, she does not even know either she love him or not. She has a feeling that the only reason that make him stay with her is her money and her reputation in the society. She keep on partying and stay in the "Bad Girl" looks. One day, she met a guy who is a doctor. This guy does not know any of her reputation or he does not have any idea about hoe popular this girl is. He treats this girl as a normal person, he complained a lot about how she live her life and she started to feel warmth in her heart , she was wondering why and the only answer might be because nobody has been ever complained her before. She started to change herself and try to show the others that she has become a better person. Nobody really believes her...
This was a surprisingly entertaining and insightful read. I wasn't really sure what to expect; although the blurb looked interesting, I thought it might be trashy and generic chick lit. I picked it up at the airport as I just wanted something light to read. I was pleasantly surprised. Rebecca Chance is a good writer and I was really impressed with the character development.
Bad Girls centres around 4 characters connected to the showbiz world, who meet in rehab battling various addictions (though some of the characters have ulterior motives for being there); supermodel, Amber Peters, whose controlling mother uses her to provide to keep up their extravagant lifestyle; Petal Gold, spoilt daughter of a famous rock star who thinks that she is entitled to everything; womanising Hollywood hunk Joe Jefferies; and exotic dancer Skye Simmons, who wants to be more than just a sex object.
Bad Girls really portrays a deep and apt insight into the vacuous and shallow celebrity world and what goes on behind closed doors. I really warmed to the characters, especially Amber and Petal. However I feel that Skye's character could have been developed a bit further and that there could have been more chapters from Joe's perspective (the novel is divided into mostly three narratives; Amber, Petal and Skye).
On the whole this was a thoroughly enjoying and funny read. I look forward to reading more of Rebecca Chance's books.
None of them really thought they need to go to rehab.
•Wild child Petal came in kicking and screaming, because her famous rocker turned Buddhist daddy told her to clean up or get cut off. •Fading supermodel Amber was not even sure how she even got to the facility, but it definitely had something to the overabundance pills she was taking. •Exotic dancer Skye was not living her childhood dreams, so she made a bargain with devil - 30 days of treatment in exchange for enough money to make a fresh start. There one last thing she had to do…. •Hunky movie star Joe, did not consider his love for ladies a problem until a series of explicit photos threatened his nice boy image. Cascabel maybe a world famous rehab center, but these four larger than life personalities might be too hot for even them to handle.
This book was so entertaining! I advise you all to slip on a pair high heels and get swept away by a cast of crazy, sexy characters you will love to hate!!!!
Remember Rebecca Chance is not readily available in the US, so you need to run down to Murder by the Book in Houston, before all their copies are gone!!!!!!
Rebecca Chance is a new author for me - But what a fab read!Three ambitious, rivalrous sisters. And a secret, which one of them is determined to keep buried at any cost.Deeley is the fake wife of a Hollywood TV hunk Nicky, who is secretly gay. But Deeley's five-year contract is up, and Nicky's publicist wants Deeley out. So she is sent packing and ends up back home in London, where she decides to re-establish links with her two sister Devin and Maxie.Devon is married to a rugby hunk Matt, and has her own TV career, as the sexy hostess of her own cookery show. But behind her confident persona, Devon is lonely and frustrated, and when a live celebrity cook-off shows her up as a fraud, her relationship ends with Matt and she runs off to Tuscany, Italy.Maxie is a politician's wife, who are trying to adopt a Rwandan baby. She's furious when Deeley, decides to sell her story for money along with her sisters childhoodto a newspaper, where she gives away a lot of what he sisters wanted to keep out of the public eye because of what could be uncovered, not wanting to ruin their careers. Will the secret of the murder ever come out?.... Read the book to see!
Brain rottingly explicit, racy romp of a book. It was so bad it was good. Ridiculously easy to read, good fun, with some very hedonistic and interesting characters.
A group of over privileged addicts seek to rid themselves of their demons at a rehab clinic in LA. Stunning supermodel Amber, lap dancer Skye Ellwood, gorgeous A-list movie star Joe Jeffreys and spoiled daughter of a legendary rock god, Petal Gold; these short descriptions of the 4 main characters say it all really.
I found it very far fetched, predictable and shallow, but strangely really enjoyed it too. The food equivalent of a cheeky burger and chips/fries...well, we can't all have gourmet dining every day, that would just be too boring.
I bought this to read on holiday - a book I could pick up and easily get into and it did not disappoint. It's a nice easy read, so perfect for anyone with a busy lifestyle and just wants to unwind with a book and a cuppa tea :) The characters are so likeable and to be honest the book was a lot deeper than I thought! I found myself getting really attached to them - especially Amber- and, without giving anything away, I really wanted her to get her happily ever after! This is perfect for readers who like a diversity of characters and plots going on, a love story, and a bit cheeky in places ;)
I'd never read any of Rebecca Chance's books before, and this one was pretty good. The story centres around four different characters - Amber, Skye, Petal and Joe - each of them sent to rehab for various different reasons.
I enjoyed getting to know the four main characters and their different pasts. I did find Petal quite annoying, though - she seemed like quite a brat. It was easy to follow the storylines of them individually and then, later on, together as their lives all became intertwined. A fun and entertaining read with a slightly dark undertone.
first book I have read by this author and at p157 I give up. The story starts off good but then their are too many sex scenes when it would be better to develop characters and plot. Even though its a chick lit it should have a plausible storyline that keeps the reader clued to the book. I would not recommend for anyone. not worth wasting your time.
i dont know how this book landed on my book shelf. but then it was worth a read. i was into the book from the very first chapter and i should say it did not let me lose interest till the very last page. the way the writer has described the characters, its very easy to picture them as real. all and all a good leisure read.
intreging how four people can all meet in a rehab center and become so close like that. Joe and Skye's love story is uniquic Amber and the Dr.'s is always amusing im really happy that i read this book :)
A great beach read, trashy but you actually want to read Rebecca Chance's books. I started w/ book 1, and I am going to read them all, whether I am on a beach or not.
A super model, London It girl, a NYC Stripper and a male movie star are carried, dragged, paid and conned into rehab. Where they learn a lot about themselves, find love and success.
Wonderfully trashy, adults only. No one is innocent and secrets are revealed.
Struggled to finish this one. At one point was thinking of skipping straight to the epilogue to get it over and done with..it just kept going on and on without any real grip to really keep me interested..typical Hollywood saga..blah blah blah...definitely forgettable..
Now if someone was able to explore cosmetic surgery and still weave out a sexy and interesting read, Rebecca Chance did it for me with this one. I am inclined to pity Aniela, but then of course the sex makes us view them as sexually fantasified beings and you join them in fantasy!!! Loved it.
Pure Filth. I absolutely LOVED IT! Top book - good storyline, loveable characters, a little bit predictable in parts but some jaw-dropping moments. Read Rebecca Chance!
I liked this book as each chapter was from one persons point of view. All characters come together in a rehab clinic and get up to all sorts of things.
