Being Beautiful by Pallavi Sharma is a contemporary fiction set in a society that looks down upon women. This book brings forth how being beautiful is a bane for women. It also deals with a love that sees through the veil, through the exterior, and stays.

The story has Nishkrita Bhatt at its focus. She always moves around with a veil and one day bumps into Aavishkar. Slowly, he falls head over heels in love with the girl who apparently feigns to be cold and arrogant. He believes in her goodness and later, helps her in battling her demons. The question is why Nishkrita would always wear a veil? Is there a scar beneath?

The book starts off and develops gradually. The brewing romance between Nishkrita and Aavishkar is portrayed well. The mystery behind her veil is even more surprising. With that said, the book is a combination of intrigue and blossoming love story. At the same time, it is hard-hitting while portraying the vices of our society. To put it simply, the central idea of the story is important and I’d appreciate the author for discussing it.

The writing is simple and the narrative is pretty direct. However, the story didn’t impress me. As it progressed, I was yearning for some intensity, some effective plot treatment, some strong line of thought. Instead, I met some casual romance between the two characters that didn’t bode well with me. Even though the man plays a vital role in helping our protagonist come out of the closet, the story as a whole doesn’t leave a resounding impact. Moreover, the verbal exchanges between the characters especially Nishkrita and Aavishkar seemed bland, forced, and out of place. Additionally, the climax appeared absurd.

Perhaps, a round of editing with a closer look at refining the plotline would have resulted in an engaging read. Such stories that deal with some pertinent issues deserve impactful writing.

What made Nishkrita run incessantly at night? No, she wasn’t beaten up by her father or bullied by her friends but she was fed up of herself! Unintentionally and insanely she bumped into someone and he starts with his unkind words ‘Are you blind?; But after seeing her fearfulness, something happened in him that he wanted to know who she is even after she ran in her direction.

Anyhow Nishkrita was unaware of the sudden shock waiting for her in the office of ‘THE MAGAZINE’, where she works as a cartoonist. She moves to her office after covering her face completely with shawl. Yeah! She do it always, but why? She was informed that someone came to see her and it was Aavishkar Mehra, the one whom she bumped into last night? And how he knows her name, workplace and everything?

She never puts her picture anywhere. And only she knows why! Why this girl so complicated? She is someone for whom her mom and cartoon is her entire world! Would it have a change? And most importantly, what makes her hide her face!
The part in which Aavishkar says about his day to his mother and finishes it with the words 'I miss you ma' is so heart touching. Talking to a photo could never replace a loving soil!

Seriously, at a point I could not control my curiosity to know why she hides her face. Dear Author, you have nailed in maintaining suspense. Bearing the suspense was really so tough for me yet the beautiful flow of the story made me fall in love with the book.

The character Nikskrita is well sketched with uniqueness in her style and words. Oh! I have no words to praise it.

The writing style is very good and I loved reading this story so much. The story progressee with extreme suspense and the descriptions... Thank God- I hadn't missed such a book!

I'm so sure that I could find this book in bestsellers list sooner.

Some books has some magic to grab the attention of the readers till the end. Some books are even more magical that they could make their readers stay curious till the secret is revealed and sometimes even after that! 'Being Beautiful' is one such book for me.

No one knows why she really hides her face from everyone around! No one knows the story behind it too... Working as a cartoonist in a reputated magazine, for her, life revolves with her mom and cartoon.

Believe me, it's such a good book that I could not put down till the end. Shortly, it's a page Turner.

What's not good in this book? The narration is amazing. The plot is too good. And I have no words to explain how I loved the character sketches.

Recommended for everyone who loves good books with great plot!

#INSIGHT: Being Beautiful is about a girl Nishkrita who has hidden her face with a veil for the last 10 years. Aavishkaar who runs into her one day, falls in love with her without even knowing what's there behind that veil. Her troubled past and his optimistic way of thinking for the future is all about this novel.

#REVIEW: The novel 'Being Beautiful' is about the protagonist Nishkrita and her life. Beauty proved to be a curse to her which took the happiness away. Kudos to the author for taking such a topic and weaving a story around it. It is high time we change our definition of beauty. The author has very wonderfully penned down the emotions. I was impressed with the writing style of the author. If only she could work on the plot a little bit more.

#BEST QUOTE: What are human beings doing today? Fearing death all their life and then falling prey to the same death one fine day. There was no fun in doing that.

#STRENGTH: The brewing romance between Aavishkaar and Nishkrita was written well. There was a certain flow in the story. The development of the plot was good. The twists and turns of the story were nice and the secret of the veil is very interesting. The underlying idea or motive behind the story was really great. The cover page and the title commensurated with the content of the book and were very well chosen.

#WEAKNESS: The plot could have been better. The story lost its grip towards the end as the overall impact of the book could not last longer. I found few mistakes in the book as well. The end could have been better. Details with regard to certain aspects such as Aavishkaar's rescue from Mumbai were missing.

#TARGET READERS: Newbies interested in love stories

#AGE GROUP: 18 and above

#GENRE: Romance

#RATING: 3.5/5

💌Beauty lies in the eyes of beholder is a true statement and I am sure everyone might have experienced it several times. What is beauty? I question myself each day. Is it my inner self or is it the way I look and present myself in public.

💌Being Beautiful" by Pallavi Sharma is a beautiful story which actually became my favourite novel. This book has everything that I relate to myself and always question. There is lot of drama followed by romantic suspense in this book.

💌It’s a story about a girl named Nishkrita Bhatt for whom her work and her mother is everything.
She works as a cartoonist for one of the leading magazines of India- 'The Magazine', located in Chandigarh.
She does not want to reveal her identity to anyone. She keeps her face covered all the time inspite of being a cartoonist and working for a prestigious magazine. Why is she doing so? I believe opening the entire story would do injustice to the readers.

💌Aavishkar Mehta, a well known businessman falls for her, wants to know who she is or whether he knows her already, there are many parts to this story and the deeper you go the more you get attached to the characters of the novel.

🎭 Nishkrita is a mystery. Whenever she enters her office, she keeps her face covered with a shawl. She never puts her pictures anywhere and she never meets people face to face.
Find out the mysteries behind the character. I highly recommend to the readers who love reading the normal day life stories.
