To tell the truth, there is not much to this story. I grew up in a small town and only found out I had some writing ability in my senior year of high school. I had had the urge to write when I was 17, but did not know if I was any good until I took that Grade 12 Creative Writing class. An above-average grade and some praise from the teacher gave me the confidence of being able to put together a decent story.
I had other plans for my future at that time, however. A different career plan took me down what ended up being a dead-end street (figuratively speaking, of course). So, I am not one of those authors that studied the English language and all its intricacies. I just have stories to tell and can manage to put them on paper in a manner that entertains (so I have been told).
But, getting back to my story, love then found me. Four children came out of that failed relationship. When the youngest were two, I quit my job and concentrated on getting that story that popped into my head when I was 17 onto paper. Thirteen months later, the first draft of Knightfall was finished. The hardest work then ensued: publishing the book.
I tried the traditional route of getting an agent to find a publisher. I did manage to find an agency to take me on, but nothing came of that endeavor. So, in May of 2008, I decided to publish the book myself. All I wanted was to see my work in print, for my friends and family to have a physical copy of my work.
A year later, an e-mail introduced me to Strategic Book Group. So Knightfall was republished with a new cover and a cheaper retail price. Some further editing was done for this edition, making the story even better.
And what does the future hold? Hopefully many more stories to entertain the masses.
Knightfall is Canadian author Marc Labelle's first novel. An atrocious crime is committed, tainting the soul of a reputable knight for all eternity. A druidess has prophetic dreams and is accompanied by a loyal plainsman in her quest to understand their meaning. A wild elf pursues a demon that has destroyed his village and kidnapped his sister. A brave dwarf searches the land in the hope of finding clues as to who stole an irreplaceable, highly valuable relic from his people. A mysterious dark wizard tries to right a wrong carried out by one of his brethren. All these stories intersect in this captivating epic fantasy adventure.
A clan of strangers, grouped together by circumstance and common interest must work together to hunt down a seemingly insurmountable evil. They strive to survive while waiting for ancient prophecy to materialize. This foretelling calls for an earthly female to rise and defeat the vile beasts. It is their only hope for survival.
The writing is teeming with meticulously painted settings and vividly depicted characters. The author skilfully blends scenic detail, intriguing dialog and engaging turmoil. The result is a well paced, captivating story bound to grip a reader's interest. The debut novel is fluid, engrossing and bound to entertain any avid reader.
The description of the opening heinous crime is fairly graphic and may not be suitable for younger readers. Barring the opening sequence, this book is highly recommended for fans of fantasy of all ages.
Ravenna is stuck in my mind since I've read this book when it first came out. I simply couldn't put this book down! Marc Labelle, this book should be a movie. I was magically possessed in a different world. None stop events through this book! Amazing work.
