About the author

George Forty was a British Army officer who was the chief of staff at the gunnery school at the Royal Armoured Corps. He was later a director of the Tank Museum at Bovington.

Forty was a military historian and had written numerous books on military vehicles with a focus on armoured warfare.

Книгата е разделена на три раздела – историята на танковете заема първите четиридесетина страници, като реално това е и история на мащабните конфликти от Първата световна война до края на Студената война и малко отвъд нея. Там подробно е разгледана еволюцията на танка, която определено не се развива особено преди катализатора на Втората световна война да доведе до създаването на механични зверове, които визуално поне не са се променили особено в следващите десетилетия – но всъщност всичко по тях технологично напредва ударно, точно както при самолетите.
