Written by distinguished poets from many different backgrounds, this anthology explores the unique connections we have with the people who are dearest to usparents, grandparents, siblings, and best friends.
Someone I Like is a collection of poems based on a common theme of relationships. It incorporates poetry from around the world with many different poetic styles. The poems are all very thought-provoking and will be sure to conjure up different feelings and emotions in both children and adults alike The poems in the book touch on varied subjects such as friendship (Best Friend by Judith Nicholls), death (Grandad by Kit Wright) and family (Andre by Gwendolyne Brooks). Someone I Like could provide a foundation from which to begin a discussion with children about various emotions/issues they may be experiencing. Judith Nicholls provides an introduction whereby she talks about children and poetry, and how this book can be used to approach different subjects. I think Someone I Like would be best used in smaller group settings or even one-to-one, when focusing on personal and relationship topics. Someone I Like has a comprehensive range of poetry and would therefore be suitable for KS2, years 3, 5 and 6.
This is a fun collection of poems about people and relationships. Some of these poems really spoke to me, some didn't. But that's ok. Most people will find a gem or two in here.
