I didn’t like the writing style so it made it hard for me to ever get into the book and enjoy it. It had a distant narrative voice, so I never really felt emotionally invested in the story or the heroine. Also how the hero spoke to the heroine annoyed me. For example, when Sarah says she can’t understand why a character did something he says, “Of course you can’t, my sweet and gentle Sarah. How could you? With your generous, loving nature, how could you understand a mind that has become warped, and bitter and grasping?” He’s always slightly condescending to her and him constantly calling her “my darling” annoyed the shit out of me too.
