Le Cycle d'Anathos: Versus Inferno

Rate this book

4½⭐️

I like the fighting part against the evil versions but it makes not much sense to be honest.
It is cool to see Jadina fights her evil-self but sadly very unrealistic.

(critique français au-dessous de l'anglais)
It has been two years since Anathos reincarnated in Danaël's body and began his reign of terror with his generals, the Infernals, who he had created from the Legendaries' weapons and parts of their bodies.

But the Legendaries who survived his first assault are no longer the same Legendaries. They have been training these last two years, to improve their skills and to make deals for the same purpose, but with consequences which we do not fully understand yet. Do they have a chance of defeating Anathos and his Infernals? What will be the price to defeat them?

*Note: This review covers both numbers 11 and 12 of this series, as the series consists of 2 book narratives.

An excellent conclusion to the 4 book special series of 'Le Cycle D'Anathos', Patrick Sobral seems to have decided (notably cementing this idea in book number 12) that a a slight reboot was in order for the overall story to progress in a more mature and sustainable way. Clearly many lessons were learned from the creative team in regards to the earlier numbers, and pretty much none of my earlier criticisms can be applied to the new paradigm that our heroes find themselves in. What's more, there seems to also be a certain amount of self-deprecating humor now present in some of the panels (courtesy of the writers who thankfully aren't taking themselves too seriously anymore), and that always gets bonus points on my end.
While I'm still a fair amount of enjoyment away from calling this series spectacular, these last two numbers have cemented an evolved sense of storytelling on the part of the author, as well as a more interesting and rewarding read overall. Certainly a recommend on my part.
