Although I haven't read the previous books it didn't take me long to get into the story. The author did a great job in describing the actions of his characters. I liked Jake and Adeolo, but I felt myself more drawn to Daacad---a real warrior who stopped at nothing to prove herself the best at what she did. Jake and the team are getting prepared to face a sinister enemy---Adam Heinrich. Adam is hundreds or thousands of years old. Because of the technology he hoarded within his personal paradise which made him immortal, Adam, with his golden coloured hair, resembles a male child. He summoned the Prime Minister, Catherine, and asked----or should I say, demanded her help to defeat his enemies. I have a feeling that there is going to be lots of deaths in Book 8. If you are an avid reader of sci-fi, you'll love this book.
I was so excited to read about the reunion of Jake and Adeola that I couldn't wait to get my hands on the next Versatile Layer installment. War Chief did not disappoint! The characters are well-portrayed and the plot is excellent. I loved the bits of backstory that were provided and the way they gave me a deeper perspective of characters I've grown to love (or hate) in previous books. The pacing was great, suspenseful, and had several very unexpected surprises toward the end. Thomas Davis has outdone himself once again. I can't wait to see what happens next! My guess is that the greatest challenges lie ahead! I can't recommend this series enough. It is well worth getting started on the series. You'll love it!
