This expanded edition of Catholic Answers to Fundamentalists' Questions has been updated in light of the changing social landscape and is written for Catholics as well as questioning Christian Fundamentalists. It offers clear, accurate, and easy-to-read answers to many questions that sincere Christians ask about the Catholic faith.
This was another of those books that had been sitting around since my pre-Cana days, and as I was "between books", I figured I'd hit this 60 pages and see what was inside.
The book begins well, but overall fails in its titular promise. If this was written for the laity, it fails. It's like a theological textbook and the wordsmithing and hair splitting is annoying. It reminds me a little of Bill Clinton's verbal dance: "It depends on what the meaning of 'is' is".
I came out of this book not truly understanding the answers to some very reasonable questions, like:
- Why do you believe in Transsubstantiation? - Why do you venerate the Saints? - Why do you treat Genesis as "myth" and other parts of the Bible as "fact" when they both are called "divinely inspired by the word of God"?
So, all in all, a feeble attempt to shore up all the "oddities" of Catholicism. If I were to convert, I'd want these questions much more clearly answered. Perhaps a Priest can do a better job of answering them, but this author failed on many levels.
This book really helped me understand the differences between catholicism and protestants. It answers the real questions with good resources to back them up.
