I read this book slowly over the course of a couple of months. I try to pair a book reading like this with a personal challenge, like a diet improvement or something like this. This proves time and time again to be a successful pattern for me, when I want to make changes the best thing to have on my side is a spiritual book in order to help map my path out. What I discovered while reading this, was a couple of simple things. First of all, it's the fact that self-help books, especially Christian self-help books, are made to plant a seed or two, but are not meant to replace good spiritual teachings from the Bible, and being mentored by a peer. I had a chance to see the author speak this summer, and he writes as he talks. His approach is very simple, men of God, need to gather together, armor, each other up, support each other, and always be the one to stand and say I'll be the one to go. Miller preaches this, and it is the cornerstone of his ministry. Not to say that he was suggesting the reader take up a similar ministry, but Miller's just simply calling, passive men into action. This is the third book I've read from Miller since the summer time, and I still find his words to be extremely impactful. Miller also has a genuine contemporary take on reaching men daily through devotional, sent by text or email. In an extremely easy to use website you'll find even more answers. I don't think this book has been flawless, not five stars, only because there's not much I walk away with that I didn't already know. It is extremely helpful, but I think a book like this would be best put in the hands of men that are maybe just starting out. Unsure how to begin a ministry, or unsure about how to pair together with men of the faith. Have they recommended to help plant those creative seeds of thought in order to springboard into your area of ministry. This will not cure any problem, or present many new ideas to a season to believer. But as I said, if you walk away, understanding that Miller's main concern is empowering men to connect with each other, and intern connecting to the world at large for the glory of God, then you'll have learned when I believe he sets out to teach.

Gather Around

This was a great book on Christian disciplines for men.

I especially enjoyed it, as it was a great companion for being a better Christian in my Men's Group Bible Study.

Highly recommended.
