Creator's Image: A Short Story Collection

Darwin's theory of evolution conspires with the philosophy of the aphorism 'Aham Brahmasmi' with mind itself as an entity. Egos hurt before strengthening the bonds of relationship. Suffocation of the unwanted relationship, one tricking the other, but people in love sacrificing the essence of it for each other, the decision to let go or give it time. The delusions fed to you by your progenitors that they themselves cannot set right. Your progenitors grappling to keep up with the new generations despite the delusions. Hatred among yourselves consuming you. With all these complexities in life, the dilemma of if you are still sane. Children do not act like children anymore. Demons of the wrong relationships. And the gods? You don't know anymore if they are there. These are not questions, yet they are. You will find answers within yourself through each story of Creator's Image. You will find solace with every character in each story. They are you and the people around you.'Shwetha has managed to compile an interesting collection of short stories on various topics. The readers may find themselves pondering over the author's unique take on the age-old concept of the creation of this universe in one story, and then is left musing on the complex relationship issues discussed in the other stories. Some of the stories have unexpected endings that leave the reader surprised and amused at the same time.'- Hanadi Falki(author of The Price of Our Silence and Women Around Us)'Creator's Image is a collection of eleven insightful stories that deal with various aspects of human relationships. They are slice-of-life stories, which, in their own inimitable way, hit right in the gut. They make you think of alternative possibilities. How would these people have functioned if one factor was altered? Are relationships beyond the people that make them? A special regard for the titular leading story, Creator's Image. Without spoiling it, I'd say this is a fine poetic analogy of a story from the universal mythology that we have heard so often. But how the author, Shwetha H S, takes the halo off that mythological tale and humanizes it is something to look out for.'- Neil D'Silva(bestselling author of Maya's New Husband, Yakshini and Haunted)'Creators Image by Shwetha H S is a beautiful collection of short and crisp stories that deal with such complexities of life. Each story leaves the reader lingering in an afterthought and, then going back to reading the ending again to find if it meant anything else. The stories remind of Raymond Carver and his style of writing. The strong emotions, mental convolutions and the diverse characters in the stories are deftly and adeptly handled by her. The best part of all the stories is that the characters are so real and intricate that they let the readers decide whom they connect to and sympathize with.'- Nilutpal Gohain(co-author of bestselling science fiction 2035)

It is often very evident that the perspective of every person is very different from each other. And considering artists as of now, their POV is extremely opposite to that of any other person. For instance if a person is seeing a waterfall they'll see a stream of pearls falling on the rock. And this POV is the beauty of their art.

Creator's Image by Shwetha HS is one such book with a very different perspective.
It is a compilation of 11 short stories which are based on various themes. Although the thought process and the basic POV is different but one thing which unites them is the emotions and vulnerabilities of a human.

In my opinion, all of the stories are very short and crisp. I appreciate the fact that some of them are left for the reader to analyse and to end according to their own way.
1st story i.e., "Creator's Image" is the best story of the complete collection. It was relatable to such an extent that my ability to overthink started relating with it. It was comforting and somehow very oddly satisfying. When I finished reading that story I wasn't able to step further on the next one because it left me alone for contemplation. Absolutely loved that one!

Some other stories which I enjoyed reading were "The Kingdom, Branded, Tears of the Goddess and Check Mate"
Character development was not very advanced in any of the story and that's absolutely fine but in "Tears of the Goddess" the character of Raju was very influencing and felt very real. Like I am 100 % sure that there are thousands of Raju out there in the world, as vulnerable as him.

The other stories didn't have any significant impact on me and TBH they didn't make much sense either. I won't say that they are bad but I wasn't able to connect with them. After reading them I found me in a very strange conversation with myself discussing about whether I liked it or not. Because they felt surprisingly weird and absurd.

One last thing which I want to mention is that writing style could have been more refined and a more polished language could have been used.

Overall it is a short and good book filled with very unusual and beautiful POV. If, some stories would have been given some more attention then this book had the capability to be one of my best reads of 2020.

Creator's Image is a collection of short stories written by the Bangalore- based Shwetha HS. The stories do not stray far from Shwetha's city of residence, and tend to all be written in the third person. Certain stories like the titular piece, "Creator's Image" are vague and abstract. Others follow a conventional beginning, middle, and end, but do little to subvert the expectations of the world being created, or provide insight into relationships which have already been explored.

In my opinion, some of the best stories in the collection would be"To Each His Own" and then "The Kingdom." In "To Each of His Own" in particular, HS captures the nature of an eccentric old man lost at the airport extremely well. The turns of the story remind me of something O. Henry would write, and the interactions that the old man has with strangers read generally true. "The Kingdom" also does a great job in capturing the trials and tribulations of childhood well. Two young girls plot the design of a castle as their parents' marital lives fall apart in the background. Once again, the twins who anchor the story behave and speak like normal children. I will say though that the spousal drama in the background could have been a little less generic, and I think a better ending could have given the story a much better summating effect.

As for the rest, I often found that a lot of HS's stories feel more like sketches than fully developed. Relationships fall apart, people get suddenly murdered, but there isn't the feeling that HS put a lot of thought into the interior lives of her characters. She doesn't put much time in describing how they look, the environment they inhabit, or much of their deeper psychological traits. Even stories which are exceptions like "Tears of the Goddess" provide a fascinating look into provincial Karnataka, but with the eyes of a tourist, and someone who is not fully possessing neither the characters in the story nor their narratives.

Since some of the better stories in the collection show promise, I wouldn't fully write off HS. At the same time, I think these stories are fundamentally of a writer who is still learning her craft, and needs to put a lot more attention and time into finessing it.

Creator’s Image by Shwetha HS is a collection of short stories that explore the many faces of a human being and take up concepts from evolution to love to the social construct of marriage and explore them from a different perspective. There are 11 stories in the book, each with their own idea that will keep you pondering upon them long after you have finished them.

The stories in the book are told in a very refreshing manner that is blunt and laced with truth and sarcasm. Each of the story in the book takes up a social issue and talks about it through their characters. From the titular story that talks about control, to Change in Paris where we see how social conventions force people to talk drastic decisions to Doses of Dreams where the author talks about the long-term impacts of living in a fantastical world and how that impacts each of us. The storytelling is powerful and keeps the reader engaged till the very end. Despite being a short book, it makes the reader concentrate on each story and makes them come back to it once they have read the climax to understand the nuances of storytelling that Shwetha has woven into the book. While I would have preferred the climax of the stories to be a bit more powerful in some of them, some like Check, Mate and Said and Unsaid were just perfect in the way they ended.

The characters of the book are common people, like you and me, ones that can be found around you and the stories are based on situations that one might just come across in their life, and that is what make the characters relatable and interesting. Being short stories, the way the author has detailed each character is excellent, and a special mention is required for Check, Mate as that had a character that was extremely detailed.

A Human, a simple word to pronounce, but to describe it various stories, books, etc are less. Creator's Image is also one of the book which shows different stories and thought processes. Each story is different from other, and the characters in it have their own set of mindset. What's unique in a human?? The answer is Mind.
The Mind of each human, responds slight differently to a common action.

This Book, is exactly the same. There are set of 12 stories on different topics, but some or where related to Mind. The Stories inside it can be repeatedly by just picking any of the random one.

Let's come to the different aspects of this book:
1. Cover - Nice, it's a circular object placed on a sand and replicating the Creator.

2. Story Title's - Each one of it is Unique, a trigger a curiosity to read and reach the end. Though there is not a proper end, but after reading conclusion can differ.

3. Language - The Language is simple, easy to understand and get attached to it. There are new words, new quotes, you can relate and search.

4. Characters and Narration - There are many characters in the Book based on the story line. Narration is done well, it has story telling, conversations and facts as well.

Overall A Good Book specially for those who learn to read short stories and beginners can also start with this book, as the story lengths is not too big and not too short.

Shwetha has penned a fascinating collection of short stories in Creator's Image that deal with a wide variety of subjects related to people and their lives. Most stories end with a twist so unexpected that I often re-read the last few paragraphs to see if I'd understood correctly.

Among my favorites are Change in Paris, The Glorious, and Tears of the Goddess. Each story has a different subject matter -- sexuality, honor killing, and superstitions.

I was impressed by how Shwetha shows a mastery of different cultures and classes across the length and breadth of India. The way she tells her stories makes you feel like you're listening to a grandparent/relative recount anecdotes and experiences. She lays bare the quirks, beliefs, and idiosyncrasies that make up human nature and set people apart from each other.

Creator's Image is a collection that can be read and re-read as many times as you like to immerse yourself into the ordinary, yet intriguing lives of others.

(I received a copy of the book from the author in exchange for an honest review.)

It’s a short book that can be read in few hours. So I will keep my reviews short. It’s a collection of 12 short stories. I will briefly summarise one or two stories that will give generalise idea regarding the book. My favourite one is very first story that is the title also. It was something different for me because author has taken an environment for story and then she has described her opinions or her thoughts based on that. It’s like rather than outside story, it’s an inside story. So it was different concept for me. I liked the characters Vinit and Divya and Payal and Gaurav. It’s like we can relate many things from that two couple. The stories are short and to the point. The narration style is smooth. The book is written in simple and easily understandable language so that everyone can enjoy reading it. The stories are based on day today observations. So the book seems familiar to us. Overall nice one.

Creator's Image is a collection of eleven insightful stories that deal with various aspects of human relationships. All the stories are equally good and interesting. But my favourites would be "here we are" and "to each his own".
The narration is descriptive. The language easy yet engaging. The stories deal with human emotions and behaviour. It talks about how we behave in certain situations. All stories are so relatable that it keeps you engaged throughout. Some of the stories are left to the reader's imagination. The title of the book is appropriate and I love the cover of the book.
Overall this was a good read.

Creator's Image

by Shwetha H.S.

This short story collection constitutes the intricacies of varied and complex uncertainties of life. Each of the stories portrayed in the book is an entire work of unique perspective and observation which is very different from the ordinary. Author's crisp and fast paced writing style is adamant to pamper the readers with its arms of expressions and that too sometimes towards extremities of the dead end.

The end to each story is a seperate plot in itself which could be relevant but would be expected to stir out the emotions. Fiction of mythology to the reality of humanity, the author has expressed it all from the uniqueness of complexities to the ease of relief with the characterisation.

Various colours of life till the grey in between, each story is well thought of and has an insight which only an observant reader can ponder upon and emerge with an aftereffect of its essence.

The stories are framed in a pattern which would make the readers realise about what actually is relevant in our lives especially when life is a huge bundle of subtle relationships. Heartfelt yet strong narration of the book is designed to let the readers delve and appreciate the resonance of our real lives.

"I might be a character in a story, or I might be a story of a character."

Creator's Image is a good collection of the short stories.
It is easy to read, not very complicated or complex sentences.
The genre of stories is also mixed and are interesting. Few stories have good build up but I didn't like how they have ended. I am not much of an open-ended climax guy. I need closure in stories.
Other stories which are complete in sense are mind-opening and force the reader to give it an after thought and even contemplate.
Read slowly, go through each story. An easy and fabulous piece of work.

A creator's Image by Shwetha HS is a finely written collection of short stories that deals with various topics like love, marriage, culture etc.

Each story talks about different things and stories aren't collected to each other. The plots of the most of the stories are unique.

Main treasure of this book is character development. I have to admire that author has done a great job here. The characters in stories are realistic and a reader can easily resonate with them!

If you are looking for a short but impactful book then you should give it a try!!

Collection of finest short stories

“The only burn that brings happiness to people must be burning the firecrackers.”

Creator’s Image is a collection of 11 short stories, each story is pointing a new issue of human relationships and at the end, it leaves a realisation for us.

Though, few stories would feel incomplete; but once rereading them from the beginning and with whole concentration it will definitely feel complete.

Use of metaphor in the very first story, ‘Creator’s Image’ is brilliant. The fifth story, ‘Doses of Dreams’ is one deep message for all the people who lie to children in young age, to avoid crying and fights.

‘To Each his Own’, is my personal best; it’s a cute story. ‘The Glorious’ is a true depiction of casteism in India. ‘Tears of Goddess’ is a doleful replica of poverty. ‘Check, Mate’ is a thrilling one.

Overall, this book is like parts of jigsaw puzzle; where the puzzle is of human conformity and parts are; Poverty, Maturity, Love, Marriage, Past, Culture, Doubt. Read this to get a sense of realization. Would recommend this.

Creator's image by Shwetha H S contains 11 short stories. Each story is short and crisp making it perfect for an evening break. The book doesn't follow a theme and every story is different in it own way. Few stories are ended in a way that every reader can decide their own end complementing the book's name. The first story, creator's image is a unique one. The stories are narrated in a way that it has the ability to keep the readers glued to the book. With every story related to a different theme, the end makes the reader introspect.

Right off the bat, the book is unique. That’s the word that comes to mind when I think about it.

The stories are like tiny tales, which I loved. You see, sometimes I don’t want to commit to the entire book – the characters and their complexities. Short stories come to my rescue at such times. This book is one such treat with a message in each one of them.

All the stories are differently themed. But they have one thing in common. Human emotions and vulnerabilities. I also liked that some of the endings are left to the reader’s imagination.

The Glorious, Check Mate, The Kingdom, and Tears of the Goddess are some of the stories that struck a chord with me. The very first story, Creator’s Image, deserves a special mention. I found it to be an unconventional way of describing the human mind.

As for the writing style of the author, I thought she got through the reader with precision and openness. A valiant effort to put her thoughts out into the world.

What I Did Not Like

Perhaps the language could have been polished better.

Some interesting themes and deep writing

This short and sweet anthology comprising 11 crisply written stories was a quick read with each story based on a different premise and mood.

If the titular story 'Creator's image' is a philosophical take on evolution, 'Said and unsaid' talks about the non-negotiables in a relationship; 'Branded' talks about acceptance in love while 'tears of the goddess' juxtaposes the blind faith in folklore and superstition against the unforgiving forces of science and nature. 'Check, mate' was a twisted tale of a girl caught in the vagaries of her own mind while 'Doses of dreams' talks about a woman trapped in her world of fantasy awaiting her prince charming.

Every story left me with something to think about and with most of them, I was really trying to understand the thought process of the protagonists. With some of the stories, I felt the endings were too vague to tie up all the loose ends of the story together and that for me was probably the only downside of the book. We all enjoy the occasional cliffhanger ending but with some stories, the unsaid left far too many gaps.

The overall scripting, grammar and language were very good throughout the book with strong use of metaphors and very tight editing.

A good one time read for me.

Creator's Image is a collection of short stories, in which the author deals with varying themes of relationships and social issues. The stories are original and refreshing to read.

The characters in the stories are straightforward and honest. For a moment we reflect on our existence when we read the story ‘Creator’s image’. I’m amused at the unexpected ending of ‘Change in Paris’. The airport setting, coffee shop, the old father-daughter relationship and the unnamed gossiping baristas are beautifully captured in ‘To each his own’. The devil thoughts developed in children from their parents is the story of ‘The Kingdom’. The human relationship themed stories bring many issues faced by different genders in complex relationships.

In summary, although the stories are simple and short, they touch upon the most complex issues of the daily life.

I definitely recommend this story collection and I wish the author good luck for their upcoming novels and novellas.

" The man is a unique animal ; having will " and the author implifies this very idea in her short stories ...
‌
humans are vigorous and fragile
‌ in nature and our mind is the only master key who can control all our doings

The book is a collection of short stories which are namely creator's image .. said and unsaid..change in paris..the kingdom..branded..here we are..doses of dreams..to each his own..the glorious..check-mate..tears of the goddes.

What i like the most the idea to drop the stories unfinished and its forced our mind to add the conclusion itself in which way we wish it to be end .

Among all of them my fav stories are namely 'said and unsaid its about a couple who learns the art to hear the unspoken words after fighting so many times ...next is 'change in paris there a woman got out from the egg-shelves and snatch a new identity for herself .

The writing style is unique and the plot of the book as well .

✒AUTHOR:Shwetha H S
📚BOOK NAME:Creator's Image: A Short Story Collection
📑PAGES:74

This book contain eleven stories that deal with various aspects of human relationship.
All the human beings have structurally the same brain but its functioning varies. The functioning determines success or failure, reward or punishment, rejection or honour of an individual. Author beautifully penned different cultures hierarchy classes across India. The Kingdom, Branded these two are my favourite among all. Each story is different from other, and the characters in it have their own set of mindset.
Title is appropriate for the book. Language used is lucid. I love the book cover so much. Hope to read more books in future from author

Our mind is a labyrinth that controls and dictates all the bodily as well as mental functions. It is the strongest organ that is not only capable of getting things done but also making others do things. Thus, it is often termed as the Creator. We also know that mind gives birth to thoughts and emotions which further give rise to sins and virtues. Based on a similar concept, the Creator’s Image presents us with a collection of short stories that offer kaleidoscopic patterns of how the mind functions.

Creator's Image by Shwetha H S is a beautiful  collection of short stories. There are 11 well plotted stories which kept me hooked till the end. Narration is up to the mark. In every story, I found deep emotions. Few stories left a mark in my heart. "Tears of the Goddess", "The Glorious", "Doses of Dreams" and the first one "Creator's image" I liked the most. Lucid language used and title of the book is nice. Its a light read for me. Enjoyed throughout.
