With the events from the past few months finally dying down, the only thing that Austin Riley and Sommer Hayes want to do is plan the details of their upcoming wedding that will be set in Malaga, Spain. However, unbeknownst to the couple, a birthday party is being thrown at the Dallas Zoo for a little boy with olive skin, dark hair, and the rare golden eyes for which Austin Riley is well known. A little boy with a mother determined to find a place in Austin's life, even if it means forcing a wedge between a bond that was once thought could never be severed.
This book is a continuation of Austin and Riley's story and it was beautifully written. Austin and Riley are childhood friends who later became lovers, however their romance is not without diversions that threaten to derail their relationship at all times.
The author has done a great job of building up the characters and making the reader either fall in love with them or hate them. This book was a page turner for me and I enjoyed it immensely.
I was happy to see book 2 it was filled with family scandals love and fatal attractions. Book really showed how in relationships one can make a bad decision trying to hold on to happiness.
The Game of Love (Books 1 & 2) are old favorites. Why are these books on my radar? Well, the author has a new series she's launching called "An 'After the End' Series". The Rules of the Game is our starter story. This novella doesn't have an ASIN so sign up for K. Alex Walker's mailing list or contact her via Goodreads to your hands on this goody.
Review for 'The Rules of the Game' An 'After the End' Book 5 Stars
The first novella, 'The Rules of the Game' updates us on the lives of Austin and Sommer after their happily ever after. I enjoyed catching up with this couple and hope this is a trend that catches on with other authors. Read it!
Ugh I thought that part one was enough. I figured the ends were tied up nice and neat and the world is good. Keep wondering Why would the need a second book? The first book was darn good, Well I found out quick and a hurry! Never had I had a more animated yelling match with myself about this book. I clutched my pearls for the most of this book. So many obstacles. So many stupid dumb decisions ( Austin). I'm still trying to recover from reading this book. I need another shot!
Part 2 of Austin and Sommer is filled with mystery and lies. Twice these two have overcome nearly devastating moments to try to keep the other in their lives. In this book Sommer gains new family and uncovers deceit. Austin finds a lie can nearly cause him his sanity. However truth does shed light on lies and HEA becomes possible. Great read..
Part two of Austin and Sommer’s love was unique, heartfelt, and seriously shook me.
I felt very greedy because I wanted more.
I can say that Austin has grown in this book. It’s not until the end. He is still a scared little boy who fell in love with Sommer and is afraid to lose her.
I enjoy this author and will continue to read their work.
I loved this continuation of Sommer and Austin’s story. There was a lot going on and I almost wished the author would have focused on the drama in Sommer’s family than the whole Carmen drama. After the secret was out, the story left out how Austin interacted with AJ and Carmen before the truth came out. I also did not care too much to how everything came to a tidy ending. The writing was good and the story held my interest but not my favorite from this author.
Now if you are going to make a part 2 to a book... this is the way to flipping do it! I was holding my breathe and freaking out the entire freaking time.
I won't give any details but hot dog was I like OMG around 69% I literally was screaming at my tablet like "WHY IS THIS HAPPENING!!!!"
I adore Austin... but I swear I couldn't understand the logic at all in this book and he had me wanting to snatch out ever single piece of my hair... Still I adore every minute of it.
Sommer... Strong isn't even the word, I think she is one of my favorite book characters.
This book was great and there isn't much I didn't like about it... Carmen maybe the only downfall but every book as that one person that you would just enjoy smacking the hell out of.. she would be that person... and the ending did nothing to change my mind on that chick at all.
I am thoroughly enamored with this couple. This was a brilliant 2nd part to the first book. K. Alex Walker did a wonderful job of writing both books. I look forward to reading more from this author. Good job!!
Austin is trash for allowing Carmen to continue to be up in Sommer’s face knowing what type of person she was. I’m insulted that he had Olivia tested. He’s the one spreading his seed
Wow this Austin is nothing like the Austin of book one. Right now I can’t stand him. It didn’t have to be this way.
Sneaking out and bringing Olivia. Nah I’m in support of sommer deading it all.
No way I’ll think my man is cheating and I’m screwing him raw if at all. No one or no pint is worth me potentially getting a disease. FOH
I don’t get Lincoln’s mother’s logic
Carmen is such a bitch. Argh
Emma is on bs talking about everything he did was out of love. Nah it was out of selfishness
Now Austin wants to talk. Nah Sommer don’t listen to h8 . What he did was still trifling and violated your trust
Carmen and Melinda are both a piece of work
That reconciliation was to quick and easy for my liking.
Damn book two was way different than the first. So much more intense. But I really enjoyed it.
I have to say, I found myself really invested in Sommer and Austin's love story. But, I found their story to get to their HEA challenging to read. Several times throughout the story, Austin's character frustrated me so much, I had to put the book down and take a break from the story.
I get there was a need to tell a couple side stories to help bring their story to a conclusion, but to make Austin appear so willfully ignorant at his age and given his profession was hard to believe. And also the fact that so many of their friends were in on the deception was hard to believe as well as frustrating to read.
But, in spite of all of that, I still enjoyed their love story and the fact that they eventually got to the beginning of their HEA was worth it.
Not sure that 2nd book was necessary. This entire plot was so overblown. Austin acted like such an idiot. Carmen was presented as both genuine and conniving. She was somehow redeemed at the end but the whole thing just felt sooo unnecessary. Just like the brief threat accusation she threw to Austin at some point which made me think that this author is particularly hung onto that thing, having already played that angle in another book. Which solidifies why I disliked this thing I the first place. Also the story with Lincoln felt a bit too convenient. I still liked Sommer and even stupid Austin. Baby Olivia was the cutest.
I really enjoyed this book, I had to put it down a few times, Carmen and Sommer got on my nerves. The angst was crazy. I did not expect the twists and turns in this book. I was mad at Sommer for ignoring her woman's intuitions. Then I was mad at Carmen, because she knew all along, that AJ wasn't Austin's . but I digress , women do that all the time. This book was definitely better than the first!
If you liked book one, "the game of love! " you will really love this one. The chemistry between the lead characters is off the charts. Each character throughout the book were also will developed. Institution, the story line was really intreaguing and carried a strong message for young women. I would definitely recommend this read...
Damn Good Read Sweet romantic story about two kids that grew up "hating" each other, but not really. The background story about the hero's father was definitely a nice twist. Wonderful predictable read.
So the story of Austin and sommer continues. With new drama and new characters specifically and Italian hottie. Lol I hope he gets a book that would be really cool.
Read both books back to back. Enjoyed reading them as always. I laughed and I also cried. When you can do that you’ve got an extremely good book. Looking for more to read.
This book was slightly better then the first but because it dealt with lies, deceit and cheating I disliked it and would have given it 2 ⭐️. The better writing helped
Wow oh wow, this was crazy, all the different twist and turns smh. Austin and Sommer, the chaos that they went through in this series only made them stronger
So much drama and bad decisions...I was truly frustrated at time with this one. Fear is a true emotion that causes crazy mistakes. I loved the relationship between Austin and Sommer. This is an interesting twist to baby daddy drama.
