My dad, my ex-boyfriend, and a three headed dog walk into a bar. Bad joke? Or my twenty-first birthday? Scarlet Walker’s life goes from blah to literal hell when she accidentally summons Cerebus while working at her Uncle’s Club of Sin. Oh, and that’s when she finds out that she’s actually the daughter of the King of the Underworld—and his rightful heir. What? Can it get worse any worse? Now that Scarlet is coming into her powers, she must face three trials set forth by the Alliance to prove her worth. And there’s already an elected heir who’ll do anything to make sure the title remains hers. With her best friend by her side, Scarlet sets out to win over the Alliance, the other heirs, and survive the trials so she can take her rightful place. What can go wrong? **This is a NA Paranormal Reverse Harem (RH) Academy Romance. Slow Burn.**
I was surprised with how many times I laughed out loud while reading this. This book had so many great moments, but then it also had a few not so great ones.
I wantedneeded more background on some of these characters. This book was good, but it could have been so much better. I'm not one that usually likes a lot of filler stuff, but this one could have used it. What happened with Mason? Why was Blake such a dick? What happened to make Xander so "Team Scarlet" from the very start?
Uggghhhh.....sooo many unanswered questions.
I'm looking forward to book two, but I'm going to need it to be....just more.
What can I say? This book sold me just from the blurb itself. It looked like a fun and action packed read and oh boy, it was a blast to read. Scarlett is a great character, with smarts and sass, I loved her. There's loads of adventure, action and scenes that will have you smiling throughout. I loved the whole concept and the delivery was phenomenal. The story expands as you go through the pages and has a fantastic balance of plot building and character developments. I look forward to the next one. This first book had me reading long into the night and with how this book ended, I know book two will be even better! Amazing read by an amazing author!
Hell's Fire was straightforward in it's plot and I'm not mad about it but it really needed some detailing to reach it's potential.
I think because of the length, things progressed at a fairly fast pace so even if whatever taking place is interesting, it's not getting enough time to have the spotlight before we are already moving onto the next important bit. The plot wasn't bad, I was actually liking the hell themed elements but I had hoped to get more scenes around the whole academy theme. This became more noticeable when it came to the harem not having much scenes to showcase their importance to develop an interest for their budding romance.
The FMC was fine but the guys needed more characterisation to get more than just a gist of it to be interesting. The slow burn thankfully helps in not making the romance completely bland. There was just a need for more content to really sell it like Xander's relationship with Scarlet seemed to be rather fast moving than the content it has showcasing it.
The overall story is interesting. Despite the flaws it sells the whole hell vibes and even had Cerberus, I hope we get more of him in the next book. The book ends on a cliffhanger and as much as it rushes through the scenes, I'm still curious to see if we get more scenes/detailing time to add towards the experience for the next one.
Wow, so I can safely say I can't wait for December...thay ending. Love Scar and all of the characters in this book, and I am so excited for the ne t installment...come on December!
This is the second Charlie Daniels book I read in a row. There is a ton of potential, but I need *more*. More description, more plot development, more character development. It reads more like the first part of a serial than a full book. Daniels also desperately needs a proofreader - this book is riddled with errors like missing words and wrong words. I think I'll wait until the entire series is done before I go back to reading it, because I have a feeling I won't be satisfied with the drips and drabs of information otherwise.
Charlie is a new author for me - discovered her in an anthology and this is the first book by her I have read. The female lead is snarky and I enjoy her wonder as she finds out new things. Small spoiler - she meets a unicorn and he is awesome. :) We are introduced to the guys and they have the mix of lovable and hated. There is no instalove so that is realistic. Looking forward to the next installment.
This is a good book and is well worth your time. However, please be aware that there are numerous issues with editing including switched words that do detract from the overall reading experience. A simple professional editing of the manuscript would have caught those errors and made this a 4 star rating.
A great fast paced and entertaining first book. Loved the premise, the characters, and the way Scarlett is trying to understand and embrace her new reality. The ending was a kick in the guts, and I wouldn’t change a thing. Just hoping book two lives up to what happened.
This was a good combination of oh no, now what and yay, what's next. It has an interesting group of characters and I'm looking forward to finding out what they do next. I think someone better watch out because somebody is going to be fire breathing mad.
Amazing story! I loved every minute of it from beginning to end...and that cliffhanger, well what can I say? I will definitely be reading the next book when it's released.until then, patiently waiting
