I was raised with Western medicine, as were most of the people in my generation. When you were sick, you went to the doctor and he gave you a pill or a syrup, and then you weren’t sick any more. Problem solved. Except that it really, really wasn’t. We were not addressing the root cause of the problem, which could recur again and again, and get much worse. And now we are treating illness instead of being proactive and preventing illness.
I will let you know right away that this is not a book that you sit and devour in a weekend. There is a lot of excellent information in “Body Cognition,” but for most people it is revolutionary and needs to sink in, bit by bit. The book is aimed at two main audiences: laypeople who want to understand and better maintain their bodies, and professionals who work with individuals to strengthen their bodies through awareness and natural body systems. The book is quite successful in addressing both audiences. I think it is an excellent introduction to body cognition for novices, and it does a thorough job explaining what body cognition is and why it is very important. Throughout the book, however, it made me realize that in order to gain the most from practicing Body Cognition, I would be better served by finding a professional who could carry this knowledge even further and specialize it for me. That does not replace reading the book, however. I feel that it is very important to read the book to make more educated decisions and be a partner with your healthcare professional. The book gives us small changes in our everyday activities that can make a huge difference, and it also includes larger long-term goals that will occur as we develop better habits.
Although the book contains a lot of information and can at times feel overwhelming, don’t give up. This is an expert evaluation of body cognition, and by reading it you can get a very clear idea of what you need to be doing differently or changing, even slightly. This book teaches you how to take charge of your own health and become a partner with your health professionals.
I am always interested in learning about new methods of healing and was really hoping to take away something new from this e-book.
The book Body Cognition- The Method was supposedly intended for professionals involved in motion therapy or physical therapy, but also for anyone interested in learning more about how the human body works.
What I found out right from reading the first few long-winded chapters, was that this book was in dire need of editing. Examples of certain things were given over and over repeatedly from chapter to chapter. Nearly every sentence was also filled with so much jargon, that I had to stop and think about what the author was trying to convey. It gets really frustrating and tiresome when you have nearly a 500 page book in front of you. At one point, I just started flipping through the chapters hoping for some explanation or anything that I could write positively about this book.
Body Cognition, apparently was a practice that was popularized in the 1960's and deals with the way we move our body and its consequences on both our mental and physical health if done in a wrong manner. All stemming from the supposed fact, that we never fully evolved within our bone structure and muscle tissues when we became animals that walked on two legs. I saw example after example of all the damage we do to our bodies during physical activities such as sports or dance and even during positions of rest. However, it seems more to be a book or perhaps commercial for classes you could take with instructors who would individualize a plan to correct whatever physical and emotional issues you have. No real answers were given that I could see, on what you could do on your own. I must admit I did not read every single word, but I think I gave it a fair skimming. I am really not sure who this book is truly intended for, but it was just not for me. Perhaps with the help of a good editor , and written in a "friendlier" voice, it could have more mass appeal.

This is a very interesting read that will teach you how to adapt to your own body and learn how to push it in all the right areas, Physically, mentally and emotionally! It will teach you how to modify your own movements in a way you never thought possible through cognitive motion.
It's different then your normal how to workout guide. In moving the way we should, instead of the way we are normally conditioned to do, one can reach many avenues of the body. Using muscles that we never even think to use.
In doing so, we broaden our outlook and our body to new horizons and achieve something we may have never seemed possible!
Each chapter holds different keys to your body. Such as posture and our awareness of it. How do we carry ourselves? That particular chapter helps you to be more in tune with how well, or not so well, you carry your body. It helps you to adjust the way you hold yourself and the challenges we may face with the pain in our bodies.
This is a great read that I will definitely be coming back to again and again. It's that type of book that once you read it, you want to go back and see what you missed.

This is an excellent read for anyone who is serious about their own health. Written by Josepha Michaeli, an Israeli acclaimed physiotherapist and physical education teacher, this book reads as a reference manual for health professionals as well as athletes and anyone who wishes to take a greater interest in their own health and well being. Michaeli developed the ground breaking Body Cognition Method many years ago and has trained generations of both students and teachers. This book is a "train the trainer" sort of reference. It will give the reader the tools they need to share the method while enlightening them on the importance of the mind and body connection. In this technology driven world, so many of us are prone to horrible posture which causes stress on our bodies and make us more susceptible to injuries. This book can give you strategies and guidelines to live better and healthier, not just physically but mentally. This is a not a skim through sort of read. I would recommend reading it in digestible chunks so that you can reflect on what you have read. I can see myself returning to this book many times in the future to refresh myself on the concepts behind Body Cognition. I learned a lot reading this and I think anyone serious about their own health would too. *I received this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
I’ve had poor posture and suffered from migraines and other aches for some time. I’ve always believed that good posture is important to health and looking good. I’ve sought exercises and ways of improving my posture and getting rid of my rounded shoulders. I recently read Body Cognition— The Method by Josepha Michaeli looking for ideas to help.
As a layperson, found this this book seems to be intended for professionals or those involved with bodywork. At times, I felt this verbose, jargon filled book was over my head. It reads like a textbook for practitioners or students planning to enter the field. It is packed with information about human anatomy and the body’s functioning. After the first chapter, I realized that the practical exercises, movements, and information about implementing the method that I sought probably would not be found here. The book covers lots of the whys regarding the need for body cognition, but lacks much of the hows. The book did reinforce my belief that the body does work as a machine, and if part of it is off then it doesn’t work at its optimum level. My key problem is that I work at a desk in a sedentary job, and prolonged immobility and continuous, monotonous actions are bad.
First and foremost, this is not a book that you should expect to read and be done with it. I have read it, and am still going back and rereading the parts that are of the most interest to me.
Body Cognition is about tuning ourselves into our bodies...working our bodies, in a way that only our bodies can be worked. What is perfect for your body, could be horrible for mine, and vice versa.
When we learn what our individual bodies are capable of, we are able to heal our bodies, and our minds. We have to retrain our bodies, to move in the way that they are meant to move...only then, will we be able to find relief from that which ails us.
There is so much to this book, and I think it would be wise for anyone to read it, if only to catch a glimpse of how our bodies are meant to work.

As someone who suffers through pain every single day, I was really excited to read a book that trains you to make yourself feel better. After this many years I just assumed that I was doomed to live with the pain for the rest of my life. So its safe to say I read this book right away. If it's something I can do, I want to do it.
I really enjoy how well this book is written. I mean it can get a bit wordy in places, but some people need more instructions to understand what they are to do. It seems like a really simple method, and I love how the illustrations match so well and they are..interesting.It's really cool to me that you can adapt yourself, to know how far you can push yourself physically mentally and emotionally. Your body no longer becomes the enemy, but a sort of frenemy. It still lets you down from time to time, but you have almost mastered it at others.
As a person that suffers from arthritis on a daily basis, I found the information in this book informative. This book teaches you on how to retrain your body through better posture, movement, and so on. It provides some good tips. It can it a little wordy at times but I found it to be very useful. The illustrations are almost comical when showing posture and motion. However in my case they are all too accurate,as I am also a person that has terrible posture. This book makes you stop and think about what we do to our bodies on a daily basis through motion.
