As I open the door, I hear someone behind me. Turning to see who it is, a fist smashes into my face, then another - I try pushing him away, but the punches keep coming. I'm on the ground. I must get up - I must...
Beth's a reporter, and when she gets news of what's happened to her friend, she jumps into her car. After going through a couple of red lights; she arrives at the hospital.

Still struggling emotionally with something that happened to her in the past, she's stunned to see the terrible state her friend's in. Will she ever recover?

Now her reporter instincts kick in - there are no witnesses to the attack, no CCTV around the street where it happened.

She vows to find the person responsible for this crime, but she has a son to think of… Is she prepared to risk everything to find the person who did this?

While all this is happening Beth's husband, who's a high-flying lawyer, reacts with indifference. He says she should think of her son - stop thinking about her friend and see a psychiatrist.

But Beth's having none of it. How dare he say she should see a shrink when he's out every night. He says he's going to meetings, but is he?

From the moment she investigates this heinous crime, things go terribly wrong in more ways than one, and now her life's in terrible danger.

BREAKUP is the prequel to the Beth Papadakis crime thriller series. Perfect for fans of TVs Marcella, Karin Slaughter, LJ Ross.

Just awful. Must have been written by a high school student. Don't bother.

"Breakup" is a prequel initially published as the "Beth Papadakis Thrillers" with a series name change to "London Crime Thrillers." I received the novel after signing up for the author's VIP Club/newsletter.

The setting of the novella is Athens, Greece. Beth Papadakis is notified that her friend Ellie Dupree has been attacked after leaving Club 44 and is in the hospital. Ellie's life-threatening experience has Beth investigating while her husband Alex continues to navigate his role as the high-powered attorney on call 24/7 to a powerful client. Amid Beth and Alex's attention elsewhere and marital discord, their young son Jamie, on school holidays, is shuffled between home, a grandmother's home, and a friend's house.

It took me a few chapters to catch the flow of the writing due to grammatical errors and missing words within sentences. According to the author's website, Ms. Alexander has lived in Greece and Spain, and social media indicates she is currently based in London, so it is possible that English is her second language. It appears the books are self-published without the benefit of editorial assistance.

An interesting story and some interesting characters. I spent a lot of time in Athens, years ago, and the story location was what led me to read lt. I wasn't excited enough about it to want to read the rest of the series.

Action and loads of unanswered questions. Leaving you wondering what horrible thing will befall Beth next. This all is leading up to Beth leaving Greece and you wanting to read the next novel.
