I first discovered this book at the local B. Dalton Bookseller shop in the indoor mall when I was 13 years old. Warner Books as a publisher always did a bang-up job with distributing these "reprint paperbacks" from the original pages of Alfred E. Newman & Co.'s MAD magazine.
"WHAT? ME WORRY?" You say? No WAY! Not when you could go overboard with artists and writers like Don Martin, Dave Berg, Antonio Prohias (an immigrant from Castro's Cuba) who remain among my favorites from this officious offering of hilarity at one page at a time.
And yes, who wouldn't want to be considered a "life preserver" or "life-saver" with that actual girl thrown around them? Can we really judge THIS book by its cover? C'mon! Take a peek INSIDE. The water and the words are fine, especially when considering Dave Berg's "THE LIGHTER SIDE OF BOATING" included in this edition of the book.
I've been reading through my childhood MAD book collection and I am happy to report "Overboard" has been one of the funniest! More laughs per page than most of the others I've read. Features some of the usual contributions like "Lighter Side," "Spy vs. Spy," Don Martin, etc. "You Know You're Really a Football Fan When..." was hilarious. Highly recommended!
