Senagaki Isaku will be a first year high school student starting in spring. Her grandfather is the third head of the Senagaki group, a yakuza organization, so she is feared by those around her. However, starting from spring, she hopes to make normal friends and normally fall in love. She is admitted into a high school further from her hometown, however, the overprotective young head of the Senagaki group, Utou Keiya, (26 years old) falsifies his age and enters the school with her through a backdoor admission...?! Keiya proclaims that love is too early for her although Isaku is perfectly ready. In truth, she has held an unrequited love for Keiya for quite some time.
I never thought I'd say this about a shoujo romance, but the introduction of the rival helps this story. I almost docked the book a star for misquoting Shakespeare, though. (It's "wherefore art thou Romeo," not "why art thou Romeo"!)
I picked this series up as it's been sitting on my to read list for a while. I ended up devouring this series in 24 hours. It's sparked the whole mafia romance kick for me. I enjoyed the innocent relationship between our main characters and can't wait for the next one in the series to come out. The artwork is really well done.
I still haven't finished the whole thing as the english translation is still coming out but there's only one thing that disturbs me in the manga and this is not the age gap itself but the fact that he basically watched her grow, literally raised her and ended up like that. There's a sensitive line when it comes to stories with age gaps, especially when there's a minor included and I think if Keiya has waited a bit more until Isaku turned 18 would have been better, at least for me. I think both in Europe and Japan the age of consent is between 14-18, in Japan I'm pretty sure it's 14 which explains almost every manga available out there. I do not like that, but it is how it is. The fact that she likes him, though, makes it way easier for me. I've seen students in school who had relationships at 15 with way older guys so that's not even something new to me. As long as the girl likes the guy and the relationship is safe for both I got no problem with it, which probably keeps me hooked to this manga. I took some time to get over the "he raised her as a little sister" moment though in order to continue. I love yakuza stories, I like the affection between those two so I'm patiently waiting for the rest of the release to see how this whole thing ends.
I cannot believe that the introduction of "the other guy" actually helps this story more! Usually whenever the other guys pops up in shoujo mangas it just annoys me and it makes the plot stagnate rather than pushing it forward - not the case with this one!
AND THAT ENDING! SPEAK OF A CLIFFHANGER!
Cannot write anymore, gotta read the next volume! Bye!
What a cliffhanger to leave this volume at. Wait until the next volume to read this. But we find out the obvious that Keiya loves Isaku just as much. Some great scenes. Mikio really stirs things up.
