He is a mangaka from Tokyo, Japan. He debuted in October 2001 with Nandodemo Roku Gatsu Jū San Hi, and also wrote for the magazine Square Freeze and Love Love Santa, published in November 2001 and in February 2002 respectively. He later moved to Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump, in wich he won the 7th "Story King" section in the same year.
In this chapter, there's a moment where a guy in his final play of highschool sports, goes to make one big tackle to end on a high note and he gets completely smoked, left standing in the dust because the guy he tried to tackle was in a completely different league than him, and he just goes "damn, that guy is really good" and it genuinely captures a specific feeling in high school/youth sports that I don't know that I've ever seen represented before.
Eyeshield 21: Devil Bat Ghost continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next nine chapters (98–106) of the on-going manga series.
This tankōbon continues the match between the Deimon Devil Bats and the Amino Cyborgs. In their first play with Sena Kobayakawa, the Devil Bats do a sweep, and he manages to overcome Atsushi Munakata with the Devil Bat Ghost to score a touchdown and easily wins the game by 38–8.
The Deimon Devil Bats next match is against the Yuuhi Guts, but other sports team athletes replace the actual football members of the Yuuhi team because the school administration was dissatisfied with their previous year results. However, when the Devil Bats are winning by 42–0 the actual members are allowed to play. They are able to score a touchdown, but the game ends 56–6.
This tankōbon is written by Riichiro Inagaki and illustrated by Yusuke Murata. For the most part, I really liked the story and the progression of the story. It is wonderful to see that the Deimon Devil Bats are progress well through the Autumn Tournament. It was also interesting to see other teams being introduced as it is shaping up to be a lively tournament.
All in all, Eyeshield 21: Devil Bat Ghost is a wonderful continuation to a new series that seems intriguing and I cannot wait to read more.
Another GREAT volume... Murata's art is so dynamic and Inagaki's story is so heartfelt, they're such a fucking good team it's nuts
The fake out with the Deer is one of the craziest thing this manga does... never in a million years would've seen that coming!!!! And now we finally kick off the 'who's the real eyeshield 21' plot line which was soooo fun and I forgot it started so late lmao
also where is Riku???? I didn't remember him taking so long to appear lol... but The Kid is my meow meow so I'm doing just fine rn
The best parts of this series are the moments where characters get to SPEED. Zooming all over the place. Sena especially, gets some cool moments that portray his speed exceptionally well. And we get to see more of the other teams, it goes by quickly but we do see a few other matches and it's nice to get to know these would-be opponents.
While fighting the Amino Cyborgs, Sena has to come against a formidable opponent, but his training wins out and the Devilbats advance. They next play the Yuhi Guts and make short work of them. But what's next? Deimon vs. the Poseidons. They're huge. They're powerful. And they don't take short people seriously, which is a problem since three of the group's powerhouses are five feet tall or less. Will Sena truly be able to perfect his Devilbat Ghost move to carry the team to victory?
After all the training and character spotlights and history, it's fun to be back in the action. The "special moves" of the characters are a lot of fun and make a regular sport more like a superhero adventure sometimes. Sena's determination and good heart make him so relatable, and though I would have liked to see more Hiruma in this one (don't I always), it was still a fantastic contribution to the series, and I'm hooked waiting to see Mizumachi go down on the field!
Sena and his new ghost juke technique finish off the Cyborg's star linebacker, and push them past the first round qualifier. Round 2 quickly begins with the bats facing the ill-equip Yuuhi Guts in what is basically a squash. The action then centers around some of the other round 2 matchups including watching the White Knights take out the Punks (I love the Punks uniform - they're one of my favorites), and the dark horse candidate Poseidon team upsetting the prestigious Deer team. There's tons of football in this volume, and a lot of extra characters introduced and highlighted. One of the things I like about Eyeshield is that it does a great job expanding the intrigue of the world beyond just the Devilbats. Each tournament round has introduced a variety of new teams and characters that keep the world incredibly fresh. Great action, great dialogue, and the continuation of a fantastic sports manga story.
Here's the ending of the Amino game (ha on you, Cyborgs), and then Deimon's next game against the Yuhi Guts. Yeah, I felt bad for those guys. And it was cool seeing the White Knights, the Gunmen, and . . . the Poseidons(?) play. . . . The season is going to be interesting, that's for sure. And Sena's really having fun with that Devil Bat Ghost move. . . .
