The Devil Bats are training harder than ever as they endure a grueling "death march" from Houston to Las Vegas! A biker gang whisks Sena off on a wild detour to San Antonio, where he tries to recruit a promising tight end prospect. And if the team survives the trek through the desert, what kind of havoc will they wreak in Sin City?!
He is a mangaka from Tokyo, Japan. He debuted in October 2001 with Nandodemo Roku Gatsu Jū San Hi, and also wrote for the magazine Square Freeze and Love Love Santa, published in November 2001 and in February 2002 respectively. He later moved to Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump, in wich he won the 7th "Story King" section in the same year.
Sort of a lackluster volume...actually a very lackluster volume. It's a whole volume of training, which seems to happen to all these shonen mangas around this volume (caughBleach NarutoCough). The final chapter where the team is in Vegas gambling is kind of funny, and the Bats finally add a tight end to the team, but other than that not much happens. You could probably skip this volume and not miss a beat when it comes to the overall plot. The Vegas death march was just boring. 1 star.
Eyeshield 21: Is There a Loser in the House? continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next nine chapters (80–88) of the on-going manga series.
As the Deimon Devil Bats train in the United States, Shin is doing a special training in the thin air of Mount Fuji to improve his cardiopulmonary functions. Patrick "Panther" Spencer appears and challenges him. When he tries to pass through Shin, he is stopped with just one arm.
Meanwhile in the United States, Sena Kobayakawa kicks the rock out of the road and he is separated from the rest. He ends up in the San Antonio Armadillos Stadium, where he meets Suzuna Taki and Natsuhiko Taki. The girl is following his brother who wants to be a professional football player.
Natsuhiko Taki and Sena Kobayakawa then participate in an enrollment match to join the Armadillos, during which Sena Kobayakawa performs the running technique to cut the opponent without losing speed. Although Natsuhiko Taki is not approved, he and Suzuna Taki join the Deimon Devil Bats in the Death March.
When they arrive in Las Vegas, the Deimon Devil Bats win 20 million yen in a casino. They then can pay for Doburoku Sakaki's debts that were keeping him in the United States and he can join them as their manager in their return to Japan.
This tankōbon is written by Riichiro Inagaki and illustrated by Yusuke Murata. For the most part, I really liked the story and the progression. I am rather glad that the Deimon Devil Bats excursion to in the United States of America is done and that they would be returning to Japan. While their time in America was rather interesting – I am glad that they are returning home.
All in all, Eyeshield 21: Is There a Loser in the House? is a wonderful continuation to a new series that seems intriguing and I cannot wait to read more.
Gran obra.
My favorite arc is over now... wahhhh... Sena going back for Yuki always melts my heart
Side note, it drives me nuts how resistant viz is to using translation notes especially in shonen jump releases... why did they take the time to explain what a tornado is, but they didn't explain the joke with the pronunciation of Jimmy Simard??? It went totally over my head as a kid and didn't make sense until this read. I thought they just looked alike, I didn't understand their names sounding similar too...
Dead march selesai.
Mereka menyebutnya TOGE.Tapi inilah bagian serunya.
Oh, we get a new character! He isn't very funny and I don't care for his gimmick but you can say that about practically every character in this series, so he fits right in! They also finally make it to Vegas and there's a cute chapter of the team attempting to gamble, no standout gags but it was kind of funny.
The Death March continues, and threatens to overwhelm some of the players. Sena's got to kick a rock over and over again as he runs, and his knees are giving out. Everyone's got their extreme training as they run all the way to Las Vegas. And when they get there, Hiruma uses his amazing brain to count cards and get blackjack money to put them up in style. Sena manages to recruit a fellow to possibly play tight end on the Devilbats team, but Taki is a bit of a lunkhead and knows a lot more about posing and bragging than about playing football. (Too bad he's really good at what he does and excellence is hard to ignore.) Sena might just be sweet on his enthusiastic roller-blading little sister, too. . . .
I just love Hiruma's plans and how they develop, and everyone caring about what each other's progress is doing to them while giving them the tough love they need is really refreshing (especially in a sports manga). The new guy, Taki, is super annoying, though. I'm glad I don't actually have to hang out with him; reading about him is bad enough. (Imagine how his sister feels.)
Another hyperbolic sport comedy with excessive comical contents and swearing words plus calling names. In the end you'll end up trying to put your jaw back together.
Really, after SLAMDUNK finished I found EYESHIELD21 as a good replacement. Not an apple to apple comparison of course, but EYESHIELD21 has its own charm. EYESHIELD21 is a manga about senior high school american football activities where Kobayakawa Sena forced to join by none other than the school demon king and vicious american foootball captain, Hiruma Youichi...kekeekekekek.
As a total loser, Kobayakawa Sena has a fast speed running to do others bidding and to dodge any physical harm. Hiruma on the other hand wants to further nurture Sena running ability for the teams best interest. jigoku training is inevitable and so the story goes.
Okay, we get a continuation of the Death March and some nice inside scooping on the rival White Knights' training style. So, am I happy that Sena found a possible tight end for the team? Yes. Am I happy that Natsuhiko Taki is extremely annoying? NO! The guy doesn't even know the rules of football and is extremely vain and is always striking annoying poses. But he is good at what he does, and his hyper roller-blading sister Suzuna is very enthusiastic and cute. I loved seeing Sena's ghost move developing, and Yukimitsu's struggle to go on is very touching. But the best thing ever is Hiruma counting cards to win at blackjack . . . how DOES he do that stuff??
