Jim Davis was born in Fairmount, Indiana, near Marion, where he grew up on a small farm with his father James William Davis, mother Anna Catherine (Carter) Davis, brother Dave, and 25 cats. Davis' childhood on a farm parallels the life of his cartoon character Garfield's owner, Jon Arbuckle, who was also raised on a farm with his parents and a brother, Doc Boy. Jon, too, is a cartoonist, and also celebrates his birthday on July 28. Davis attended Ball State University. While attending Ball State, he became a member of the Theta Xi fraternity. He earned the dubious honor of earning one of the lowest cumulative grade point averages in the history of the university, an honor incidentally shared with Late Show host David Letterman.
Davis as of 2007 resides in Muncie, Indiana, where he and his staff produce Garfield under his company, Paws, Inc., begun in 1981. He was married to Carolyn, a singer and elementary teacher whom he met while both were attending college, and has a son named James with her. However, the couple divorced, and Davis since 2000 has been married to Jill, Paws' senior vice president of licensing, who has worked there approximately 25 years.
Ironically, Davis did not own cats when he started Garfield because of Carolyn's allergies, but they owned a Labrador retriever named Molly. With Jill, the family has expanded to include children Ashley and Chris; three grandchildren, Chloe, Carly and Cody; cats, Spunky and Nermal; and a dog, Pooky.

It is typical Garfield and gang , lots of laughs, and the same old running gags that never seem to get old when it comes to Garfield. Full color comic strips. Always fun to revisit!

How many pounds can that fat cat put on! With the occasional booting Odie off the table and smart remark for Jon, people will be rolling on the floor in laughter.

Quick impressions: Another entry in the popular series, this edition is part of the newer series where the publisher puts three previously published volumes into one omnibus edition. I'll say for libraries, this type of edition may be a good option to pick up in terms of value. As for me, Garfield comics are pretty much comfort reading. The humor is light but no big deal, and the comics make for easy reading when I need a break from more serious stuff. If you already like Garfield, you will like this.

Just when I think the gagas are unbearable, one will make me laugh out loud. This volume includes: #40 Garfield Survival of the Fattest, #41 Garfield Older and Wider, and #42 Garfield Pigs Out. Favorite quote from #40, "People without donuts are so bitter."

All of the volumes leading up to this one are great. But this one is the best. There is so much exciting, slobbery, dangerous happenings in this book. And yet the star Garfield, has still got it. I really want to give credit to Jim Davis, who wrote this book. If anything, read this book.

My son and I read this for our nightly bedtime stories. I've always enjoyed Garfield, but though the humor was a bit over my six year old's head, the pictures had him laughing enough. We really enjoyed this and look forward to reading more.

Really funny book , and I think that it is very clever to put three books in one book. My favorite comic strip is the one that talks to the dog at the beware of the dog sign . Awesome book !!!!
