An unlikely sorority of women, each with her own reason for living in a house with its own secrets. A housekeeper with nothing but contempt for the opposite sex, who keeps her growing son on a very tight leash. A widow desperate to keep her job. A young women breaking free of a family caught up in the bribe ridden blue fraternity of law enforcement. A free soul, who looks at life with a joy that only comes from having seen too much, and not question the job assigned. As each story unspools a tapestry is laid bear that will hold the reader to the last sentence, revealing a beauty unmatched and enduring.

An enjoyable and well written book which keeps you guessing until the end on the outcome of all the conflicts these women face during the McCarthy Era.
