Simon carr is, well he is me, hello. I write comedy Sci-fi and horror books. I started writing in 2018. I am severely dyslexic, on the very high end of the scale. So, writing a book was just me being defiant really, doing something I ought never to have been capable of doing.

I really enjoyed writing my first book, Space And Stuff, so I carried on writing. That makes it sound a lot simpler than it was, but after a lot of learning and editing; so much editing! And going through proofreaders at a rate of knotts, I got my books to a standard that only made a few grammar Nazis heads explode; so it will have to do.

I am from Blackburn in the UK, born in the summer of 1976. I have actually won three awards for my books, I know! I was as surprised as you are. If perfect grammar is your thing then you might want to give them a miss, but if you like satire and goofy scenarios I might be what you have been looking for.

I loved this book! My first experience with Simon Carr was Da' Resistance and I loved it and definitely wanted to delve more into his work. This story was unique and such a fun adventure. Bob discovers he's been abducted by an alien blob and put in a zoo while the rest of humanity is sent off to be turned into meat for food. Bob tries to explain to the nameless blob- whom he calls Fred- that they aren't food but the dominant species of their planet, not the jellyfish as they believe. The two go on a quest to prove Bob's claims and change their status before the rest of humanity is killed and processed. A hilarious story with quirky, fun characters and quite the adventure. I never knew where it would go. I loved how Fred was so impressed with Bob's 'revolutionary' idea for the blobs to create elevators and escalators, or how other blobs thought Bob was lunch, or else why would he have a wrapping (clothes)?

I listened to this audiobook narrated by Ashleigh Binder. At first I thought the narrator should have been male because Bob was male, but I think she was perfect for the role and really brought these characters to life.

Overall: 4.5 stars
Performance: 4 stars
Story: 5 stars

Simon Carr is at it again with yet another hysterical story. In this one, Bob is abducted by some aliens who are giant blobs. The problem? The blobs all seem to think that Bob, as a giant ape, is food. Not only that, but the planet Earth is home to only one intelligent species - jellyfish. Not one to let this pass, Bob begins a campaign to change the status of humans from food to intelligent species with the help of one Blob who is sensitive to the issue, Fred.

With each book by Simon Carr that I read/listen to, I think that there can't be anything else as outrageous as that book, and every single time, the new book proves that wrong. I have just decided that all of Simon Carr's books will be hysterical and that I need to either listen to or read all of them. This book is just another example of that.

I did have the opportunity to listen to the audioboook, which was narrated by Ashleigh Binder. As the first audiobook of hers I have listened to, I thought she did a really good job.

Bob never dreamed he’d ever be abducted by aliens, nor did he think he’d find out that Earth is a farming planet for the said alien race of blobs.

Snatched from the comfort of his home Bob befriends one of his captors and the pair of them set off on a quest to convince the universe that Humans are the dominant species on Earth and not the Jellyfish as everyone assumes

Like all of Simon Carr’s novels, this one is full of funny dialog and clever observations which combined with the quirky characters is a darn good read / listen.

If you haven’t read any of Simon’s stuff then this is not a bad place to start as it kicks off the Apocalypse Blockers series which takes an ‘Avenger’s Assemble’ style by introducing the main characters in their own stand-alone novels before combining them into their own super team.

Hands down, this is the funniest book i've ever read. My first experience with Simon Carr...Now, i have read them all (to date). And while i love them all, Bob is the bomb! If you're a stickler for grammatically correct editing perfection, you need to read another author. Don't care for crudeness? Yeah, keep looking. But if you find people, society and politics, human nature in general - to be inherently idiotic and nonsensical...you will enjoy this and other works by Mr. Carr. He has a knack for poking fun at subjects that divide people and nations- religion, race, political views etc and while he takes no stand in any particular direction, he does offer a unique perspective that is LOL funny.

Hilariously Carr, this is all about Bob and his new blob friend, Fred. I am loving this series, and I've said it before, but it bears repeating: I'm reading these all out of order, which seems to be fine. But I suspect they're probably meant to be read in order. I'm learning things that are beginning to make the other books from later in the series make more sense, so I have to recommend they be read in order when possible. However, that said, Carr is hilarious, a great satirist, and he does what he does best when he's writing in his genre, which is THIS one. Space epics that don't really end till the very end. If you get stuck, stick in there, cuz it's worth it. If satire is not your thing, walk away. If you love satire, you'll find a new favorite author right here right now!!

Funny and ludicrous

This takes a lot of tropes and quickly, absurdly shreds them. The aliens are super intelligent blobs, the Earth is their experiment, humans aren't considered sentient... yet the intergalactic alien empire is gobsmacked by the invention of elevators.

Excuse me, whaaat?!

There's a lot, y'all. I'm not gonna spoil it, but the story just looks at many alien abduction traditions, punches them in the gut, then kicks them a few times while their down. Hilarious fun! It's not fine literature--sometimes tries too hard--but it sure is fun!

I received a free copy of this book from StoryOrigin in exchange for an honest review.

I found this book very amusing. It is my most favorite of all of Simon Carr's stories that I've heard so far. I realize that the humor was zany, crazy, and sometimes dark, but there were times I laughed out loud. The two protagonists, Bob and the blob will live long in my memory. I have gotten to the point where I leave space in my day as I know once I start a Simon Carr's story that I won't want to do anything else until the audiobook is over and that was true for this story. Ashleigh Binder's narration was great and enhanced the story. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

I ended up drawn to reviewing Bob and the Blob because the title reminded me of a Nintendo game from my childhood called A Boy and his Blob. Needless to say, this book is *not* like the game!

It's hard not to feel sorry for Bob. Without revealing spoilers, his life is not only turned upside down but inside out and strained through a blender that sits halfway in a parallel universe.

It all gets crazier from there. Yes, crazier. Sentient blobs, humans as food, and the end of the world. What is not to like? I can't and won't give away main plot points, but I rather like Fred.

This is my very first Simon Carr's book and believe me, It won't be the last. The story is interesting and the characters are well developed. However, I am giving only 4 stars because the edition of the book. The format is difficult to follow, and in many parts of the book is even tiresome to keep reading even if I wanted to know what happens next. The banter between the characters and the funny situations in the middle of a little bit of action and danger gave the book a little extra. A very enjoyable story.

If you're looking for a story that will make you a smile, chuckle, and perhaps laugh out loud you've got it here. Simon Carr seems to take a crack at the universe in any way he can, and we are lucky he wants to share it with us. In this particular novel the Blobs rules the universe and humans are just their food or fodder, except for Bob who ends up in a the zoo. Now if that is not enough to entice you to read I don't know what is.

I was given a copy of this for an honest review. This is absurd, stupid and completely mental and I loved every bit of it. It’s as absurd as arguing with a pot of crab paste about where you’ve parked the car. You really feel for Bob and Fred and really root for them to win. I’d love a follow up book about their elevator business, Bob and Blob’s glass elevator lol

Another hilarious story from Simon Carr set in the Apocolypse Blocker world. Some fun twists on alien abductions and a planetary experiment gone wrong...or right...depending on which side you are rooting for...or on. As always, a hilarious story and I'd expect nothing less from Simon Carr. Audio Verson: Ashleigh Binder does a great job narrating a hilarious Simon Carr story.

Enjoyed the book from the beginning. Although the ending is predictable the book was easy and fun to read. Though I cannot see the scope for a second book in the series, I for one will be happy to read one more in the series.
Overall I'll give a 3 star rating for the book

A fun read that seems to take an inspiration from tales from The Late Sir Terry Prachett. Very humorous take on an apocalyptic event of Intergalactic proportions and what it means To Be or Not To Be Lunch.

This story is about blobs seeing earth as a farm where most people are food I thought it was a strange story ruined by constant swearing. I would have thought a writer would have a better vocab rather than constantly using common swear words

Wow it was another wild ride. May I recommend not reading while at Sonic, other patrons will quickly leave the immediate area. The future has nothing like whatever like TV shows I grew up with or furry fighting teddy bears or angry big foot. Thank you Mister Carr for yet another case of guffaws.

Bob has been harvested by the Blobs and the entire human race will be harvested for food.
This is a humorous tale that reminds me of the Hitchhiker's guide to the Universe

I don't know if this story is a Simon Carr fever dream or if his order of Columbian treats was stronger than normal. There are so many different screwy errors in spelling and plot line that they seem to be there on purpose. Either way, although this story is not for everyone, I stayed till the end and am glad I did.
